This is a problem, the red lens of the tail lamp does not show, do any of teh TC3 guys know why?

Looks like a corruption of your marker lamp. They are showing OK here.

Try opening it for edit and then reverting to original.

Mike.

Do a 'view dependencies' on the coach and see what it is using.

I've been ill and stuck in the house for 5 weeks now with the odd trip to the doctors / hospital and the odd walk out around the block :(
The time off would of been the ideal situation to try and finish off my unfinished content but the tablets I was on gave me head aches and made my head go fuzzy if I stared at a screen or TV for longer than 10 or 15 minutes ! so I've been reading books and magazines and doing small chores etc around the house to keep my occupied .

Now that I'm off the tablets and feeling slightly better I dont want to be stuck in !!

I haven't even been on a real train for 4 weeks.... :'(

Anyway for those that don't care and are ready to moan about the misuse of the thread space here's a screenie to keep you happy :p

Is that a downloadable layout, and what is the track ?

Thanks
That's my route called High Speed 1, it's not available for download yet but it will be when I get a chance to finish it. I have a little too much time on my hands at the moment so it probably won't be finished until later in the year.

The track is from vias3d.net - the site is in Spanish and you need to sign up to the site to download them

No, as the reskin itself is not being distributed - only an image of the reskinned model.

April 4th, 2009, 07:53 AM
is it against the EULA to re-skin even though your not redistribute the loco
because you have to have permission to re-skin a loco

nexusdj
April 4th, 2009, 09:14 AM
I would contact the author of the original content and seek permission as to whether you can reskin his content (unless permission is already granted via the licence entry in the config file) .
Even if he won't allow you to distribute his reskinned content at least you'll be covered if you want to post a screenshot .Obviously if the answer is no then you should respect his decision.

A bit of courtesy goes along way :)

No, because that counts as personal use. No one cares what you do for your personal use, as long as it remains personal to you.
If it no longer becomes personal to you and gets distributed, you are therefore breaking the EULA which you personally agreed by carrying out an action that you personally took to indicate you have accepted the EULA and its contents personally. Breaking the EULA, which part of it has standing in copyright law, renders you personally liable to civil action..

Am I repeating myself? I seem like I am!

They do not seem to be listening....!!

At least it is not red this time and has reduced a bit, but still far too large. This size text is fine for everybody and I expect there would be a lot more help coming your way if you used it.
There are things called commas and full stops as well that come in really handy for helping other people to understand what you are trying to say, punctuation is a wonderful thing....

Just a bit of friendly advice.

@Railway97

Let me explain something to you, it's important. This thread is for screen shots. UK screen shots, nothing else, apart from the odd piece of information that is exchanged amongst other posters. The small bits of off-topic information generally relate to the screen shots in some way or another.

I think the best piece of advice for you is to create your own thread for your route. Then you can post in that as much information about your route as you like. Think of it like a blog. However, this thread is not suitable for a running commentary of your routes events, it's off topic and not of interested to myself and possibly others. That would only be acceptable if it accompanied screenshots of your route.

Hello, thanks, the screenshot is taken from the route Fort William - Mallaig, originally by Vern, but look for the "reskinned" version by tmz06003 on the DLS, kuid:283805:4015473 he did a wonderful job of touching it up.....

Fort William - Mallaig
is that a layout that your working or not and can i downlaod it

ex-railwayman
April 5th, 2009, 04:43 AM
Yes, it's available to download on the DLS and has been for the last month or so, type that kuid number I quoted into the search box and tick underneath where it says KUID, ensure you have all the boxes on the side ticked as well for TRS2004, UTC, etc......
I would strongly recommend you download the original version by vern FIRST, so look for Mallaig Extension 2 on kuid:30024:100512 as this has 85% of the assets that will download automatically, tmz06003 only added about another 100 items or so to his remake....

I am endeavouring to do a remake of Vern's layout Ayr-Stranraer, but it is nowhere near complete yet, another couple of month's work to do on it at least.....

@Ex- seeing your screenshots of Mallaig station reminded me that I need to upload the updated version of the Fort William- Mallaig update:) ...lol

I'm testing this version right now (27005 pulling away from Banavie as I type), it includes the fault free LMSR signals, straightened Mallaig Jct yard and I've substituted the reskinned BR blue project class 27 to complete the entire set of BR blue project locos.

This one will include the dependency listing so it's maybe worth waiting for it.

I'll have a look at creating the 1982 session also which includes a 'mixed' passenger/freight train hauled by a class 20- an actual service that ran in this year.

At least it is not red this time and has reduced a bit, but still far too large. This size text is fine for everybody and I expect there would be a lot more help coming your way if you used it.

If this person is taking the mick, put him on your ignore list. I seriously suggest everyone does, then he may actually bloody well listen to us. He may even use some decent grammar as well. (This is about Railway97)

Hello young man,
That's a lot better and I am sure folk on here will talk to you and answer any questions you have if you can keep that up.
Yelling doesn't get us anywhere, it only annoys people. You need the people on the - 'On side' - preferably your side.

As this is a picture thread try to keep questions in the correct place, which isn't here mainly, unless you have a point to make about on of the pictures.

The General section is probably the best place to ask questions.

Enjoy Trainz.

I'll submit it to the DLS when I get chance. DRS 47790 may also be done, plus WCRC maroon 47786 and Royal 47798, the latter of which will be the only photo textured one (although I'm quite pleased with how realistic the weathered DRS one looks anyway!)

Amazing,

Isn't that the truth! I've started experimenting with Backdrops to see if that solves the problem. It isn't ideal, and there isn't really enough variety at the moment either.

Although I've used some of Vendel's Paris Backdrops that look effective at distance.

What a challenging route to build!

That would make sense......and very grateful we all are as well :D
It was my birthday a few weeks ago, and got three books from the Middleton Press range that cover the Waterloo and Victoria lines.
Vendel's screenshots look like colour versions of some of the OS Maps in these books!
Would love to have seen this area of London during steam era. Modelling Nine Elms back then would be mental!

Shame I've not been able to use Trainz for the last two months coz of PC problems!

Angela

Can you explain a little bit more? I've got the maps from the DS, but how I can paste the map to the blank

escafeld
April 11th, 2009, 06:57 AM
Inside the folder for the 1k map is a blank image of a certain size and .file type.

So if its a 1024x1024 .jgp file, then that's what you've got to replace it with. I usually rename the existing file by adding a 'b' to it and then add the new file to the folder and call it what the original was called.

I'm not naming the file in the folder because there is more than one set of maps and I might confuse the issue. There are also different sizes to be had.

It doesn't seem as though the 1024x1024 maps have been used here - something much smaller.

Hello Escafeld,

You wrote :- It doesn't seem as though the 1024x1024 maps have been used here - something much smaller.

I agree, they seem to have been resized to get scale and distance right.
So if you do it and it looks awful, resize the graphic and try again until it scales out correctly. Bit of a fiddle but worth it for complex layouts like Clapham.
Wish I had done it for Bristol now....

Sorry for bumping the thread:(, but i think that blue class 14 was one of pikka's models, i did enquire about it ages ago on another forum. I think that would be a nice additon to most people's route (me included) if it ever gets compleated. Also, sorry for turning this thread into a query thread:(:(:(

my new route has improved greatley. Ok who thinks i should electrify the bottom part or should I keep it desiel? :) Oh & also idk what indistry should go there & i need you help, what would sute it? :D

IMHO think you should keep it diesel because that would allow for more variation and more operational interest from the viewpoint of having to do locomotive changes for trains coming off the electric system onto the diesel system. :)

it is fantastic i must say :) is it a big layout or just a couple of boards?

No, it's only a little layout, about 500 baseboards so far........:hehe:

If you want the original Sheffield layout, go to Capt. Scarlet's website here http://www.gregory-deryckere.co.uk/trainz/downloads.html
Greg started this route about 6 years ago, and has been adding to it ever since. He hopes to cover the area from Chesterfield to Sheffield to Rotherham to Doncaster across to Meadowhall and Grindleford in the West, possible even south down to Derby, so a HUGE area and he hasn't finished yet.....:hehe::hehe::hehe:

The original was built in UTC/TRS2004, so you guys using TRS2006SP1 & TS2009 may have quite a few asset errors in CMP, still, it's worth downloading just for the sheer enjoyment of Greg's hard work, and there's plenty of scope for consists of coal trains from Tinsley Yard to all the pits and power stations in the area.....And for those on TRS2006, there's a couple of Class 76's on the DLS you can utilise on the electrified section of the map.....

Have fun...

it is fantastic i must say :) is it a big layout or just a couple of boards? Thanks Ex-Railwayman for the vote of confidence and thanks to whittnall and 46035.

I regularly put my route on my ftp, it's on the DLS yet as there are large chunks of grey still so I "back it up" on my webby for safekeeping where it is available to all. It's a few hundred baseboards actually, several thousand miles of track, 4 or 5 main lines. I'm mad enough to carry on landscaping several miles away from any lines if I like the area but there is grey in a few places. The latest additions is the landscape along the Midland Main Line between Dronfield and Chesterfield as well as Sheepbridge Iron Works and the branchlines to the mines near Barlow.

For now it is http://www.gregory-deryckere.co.uk/trainz/files/cdp/Sheffield%20-%20South%20Yorkshire%2021-04-09.cdp I usually put a little remark at the end of my posts when I update the CDP. An update should be coming shortly, I've updated all the layout's tracks: bye bye AS49.

Whilst there is some grey, the layout stretches from Bentley, Doncaster to Horns Bridge, Chesterfield and Grindleford and from Wadsley Bridge to Darnall.

Very nice shots durhamlass and stovepipe, lovely moorland though not sure about the fluorescent trees.

That sounds absolutely huge - somehow I doubt my laptop will handle that one too well (but I might have to try anyway...).

I have to admit to trees being my weak point - I'm fully expecting to rip out most of the trees and replace them with better examples in due course.

That said, I'm starting to get the hang of the texturing now though and the JVC vegetation is a lifesaver. The most recent part of the route (Rough Lea - will post shots soon) definitely looks far better than my first go at scenery (Laterbrush, on the Weardale line) so I've got some rework to do there too.

If it helps both my Bishop Auckland and stovepipe's Stainmore route were built with DEM data so the hills came for "free". ;)

I can vouch for Greg's layout as I have it myself. My computer got to the stage where it wouldn't even run it at 1fps. My PC will now follow two trains running side by side without a flicker and that's with everything turned on full to the max and even shadows.

I find that subtle tones, bland even and in keeping with the ground texture make them blend in their environment, change the height of some trees to make uneven tree lines. Don't forget to ALWAYS put a hedge, wall or fence along any track (ofc not if there isn't one irl). Telegraph poles (as you have done) are a bonus.

The layout is huge, it take more than an hour to take an all stopper from Donny to Chesterfield (not that such a service ever existed) then you have both the GCR and MR lines running parallel... Not blowing my own trumpet but it's a gudden ;)I can vouch for Greg's layout as I have it myself. My computer got to the stage where it wouldn't even run it at 1fps. My PC will now follow two trains running side by side without a flicker and that's with everything turned on full to the max and even shadows.I bet it runs lovely now ;) My first glimpse of my layout running correctly was at the Trainz on the Road in York on ChileanLlama's computer... Built messen a new PC last Autumn and it runs great!

To get the best backgrounds, I find that the best thing to do is simply build it! Just build a couple of miles of city on either side of a mainline and you can take horizontal screenshots for the kill.Is this route for TRS04Read above/previous page/visit my website.

At the risk of hijacking my own thread, try these: -

I doubt that there would be much need for any others apart from pine trees for UK layouts.

There has been a thread for trees, shrubs and grass on here for years, but some of the links need updating.

I'll certainly take a look - thanks! Presumably there are a good selection of splines in there as well as groups and standalone trees? (I've used splines extensively on the BA route - it would just take far too long to position every tree individually!)

FWIW pines were pretty much confined to Hamsterley Forset in my area in the 1960s-70s, so I definitely need "any others". ;)

...it would just take far too long to position every tree individually!

No it wouldn't. In the Tips and Tricks forum I have suggested laying out a block of randomly spaced trees and copying and pasting them as and when. Put the trees on some area out of the way and name one of the trees 'TREE'. All you have to do then is go into the menu and do a search on TREE. Just make sure to bookmark the area you are working on to get back quickly,

You could also texture beneath the trees and copy the textures as well.

BTW, to delete an excess of trees, copy and paste blank squares of baseboard onto them.

Regards, Dave

Well I live and learn. Thanks for the tip - I will definitely give that a try sometime soon. :)

If you look at the aerial maps for the region (particularly north of Bishop Auckland) you'll see that a lot of the foliage follows field, road (Roman or otherwise!) or railway boundaries - hence the splines. Once you get into the detail for a given area (e.g. the Bishops Park just to the east of the town) that's a different matter, of course.

No problem. Just remember that what you paste overwrites what is already there. Untick the contouring off btw. You don't want to past the contours.

Well I'm glad that people like my efforts so far.:)

I thought I'd post a few screenies to prove I was actually doing the Stainmore route, as I have mentioned it a couple of times previously. It is still very much work in progress though.

I'm concentrating on Barnard Castle to Kirkby Stephen, and have about 17 miles textured out of 22. I'm doing 3 baseboards each side of the track and aiming for a 3km viewing distance. Lots of fine details still to be added - like signals and fences and walls along the track. :hehe:

Thanks for the tips Captain Scarlet, you certainly know a thing or two about putting a good route together. I just wish my PC would run Sheffield for more than an hour. :(

I must admit I am struggling with trees. I'm trying to put in the right types/species, but perhaps I should concetrate on getting the colours right. I have used and then removed Trunda's trees as I'm trying to keep to DLS items only, which is a shame as they are very good trees. Maybe I should re-consider.

The fluorescent trees in the foreground are Beech 20m by Railcentre 133671:20167. The ones on the extreme right are Jankvis Beech summer 328583:2674. Do folks think the JVC ones are too bright as well?

@durhamlass: Looking good there, hope to see some more shots soon.

Do folks think the JVC ones are too bright as well?I hope I didn't sound patronising, I received some slack for not using Jankvis' efforts and after giving them a second try on updated versions I've had to remove them once more. They probably suite other types of landscapes well but my idea of British landscape differs. I believe that even though Britain is green it isn't fluorescent/bright, it's possible to use tones that aren't to brash and have the trees to go with it that don't transform the screen into Test Card F. I like subtle tones but appreciate colour, adding plants (though my attention to detail rarely includes places grass splines and flowers.
I like DM_Drake's hickory and emery oaks, birch and willows. There some others I forget.

I haven't laid Staveley down yet though it will have to be geographically correct to fit south of Darnall (the last point on the GCR on my layout atm) and Barrow Hill/Staveley Works (the other end of the line). I'll have to build the place before giving you measurements or sending you the layout.I used the track you used, so need to change it to match. Spraxton Iron Ore Quarry operates 3 quarry sites connected to the main line via a 1 mile long steep connecting line to exchange sidings with the GN & MR joint line. Currently the line is operating an on loan ex L&Y Aspinal 0-6-0 saddle tank while one of the Hudswell Clarke industrial shunters are away being repaired.

Ace shots Rob, very nice. Believable which I think is the most important. And for those on TRS2006, there's a couple of Class 76's on the DLS you can use on the electrified section of the map...I don't why Redmanb11 made reskin of the original 76 for Trainz2006 since the original model was made for 2004, a little stupid to say the least but because his method is flawed, I downloaded the model, changed the build in the config.txt and changed the model to an alias so there is no mesh in the model. The colours are pretty bad and the texturing shiny in the wrong places. I'll work on the textures and make this version available (after speaking to Pacificseven). I had to lash on Redmanb11 since his re skinning and config work was pretty bad. I'm sure I can get the model to work for 1.3 too since there is nothing special in the model that prevents it from working in the oldest KUID using version of Trainz.
