Some nice shots Liam, and I see you have used the shrubs spline...

Of course my Tintagel and Camelot aren't really the actual thing, there is no Tintagel station nor indeed Camelot, the latter doesn't exist!

But I felt if they were to be made they had to be very different from my normal practice of creating stations and the surrounding areas.

Yes, Tintagel has some very steep rocks, I have also been there, but many moons ago when I was young, daft and in my early twenties.... probably about fifty or so now.

Enjoy your route making.

God bless all Trainzers,

Angela

Driver Only Operation monitors Josh. You usually see them at the small stations on the suburban lines in South London and Kent. As their name suggests, they are for driver only operation (where there isn't a guard to control the doors), the monitors are linked to cameras that are on poles on the platform, usually 4 to cover 8 cars (And the perception is a lot different too!). I've hung mine on some lamp posts and the station has 3 per platform.

Now, these are just some stills I took in Trainz and modified them in Photoshop, my next challenge would be to make them work, oh that will be nice, seeing my train in the monitor as I bring the thing to a halt. (Then we can steal Microsoft's title of "As real as it gets! :P")

EDIT: Damm it, I was looking for a prototype and couldn't find one and the cameras are mounted incorrectly.

Enjoy your route making.

Thanks, I will :)

WEN, Since the route I'm making is based in South London and Kent, will you be releasing these monitors? They will fit well on the suburban stations I'm making

And congratulations on getting the 5000th post :D

Nope, the Channel Tunnel Rail Link is real. Its mainly called High Speed 1 by the authorities.

It stretches from London St Pancras to Folkestone in Kent, and its the UKs fastest high-speed line

The fastest speed on it is 300kmh (186mph)

I finally got around to using Gmax again and so I decided to redo the 86 upgrade project from scratch as my original attempts had got some major faults .:(
They should be ready for release soon once I've added some extra details around the buffer beam .
I hoping to upload the bogie's today now that the DLS seems to be accepting new content again :)

46035
November 2nd, 2008, 06:51 AM
They look cracking Nexus :)

I'm hoping to upgrade Pikkabird's class 87 in a similar way that you've done the 86. I'll upgrade the bogey with high res textures (which should improve it ten fold, although it's pretty good to begin with) and am also in the process of retexturing the entire 87 base.....it'll be fully photo-textured in high res quality; this includes the minor details too. It's shaping up quite nicely as a "side project".

If anyone can think of anything drastic which needs changing on the 87, please let me know so I can make note. Of course I'll need to contact Pikkabird if I'm to make any physical changes to the body or bogies. A new custom cab & enginesounds are also planned.

I guess the project was inspired by your class 86 upgrades though! :D Don't wanna take on too many projects at once though; I've distanced myself from a couple already as I simply don't have enough time to work on them all. Taking it one step at a time on this occasion; Class 20 & class 08 reskins plus the new route I'm working on are priority at the moment.

Yeah I've tried them but I didn't like the high pitched squeal on the sample when the loco was stationary plus the sounds were far too loud !

Sorry if I sound negative but the actually quality of the sounds was great , If you could adjust them (as above) then you'd be on to a winner .

:)

Liam125
November 2nd, 2008, 08:24 AM
Thats okay :p

The sounds are loud because most of my sounds are quiet. I was trying to improve them, but I probably made them a bit too loud.

That high pitched squealing is the actual idle sound of the loco so theres nothing I can do about that really

But I will make them quieter soon

All the files on Skodatrainz can be imported by going into CMP, going into File and selecting "Import Content"

Select the folder you want to import (select the first folder and all the subfolders will be imported) and the content is imported. Just remember to unzip the zip files first

It depends on what version of trainz you have ?
The majority of files on my site are in zipped file format , So you'll need a zip file opening program (like winzip , winrar or the built in Microsoft opener ) .
If you have 2006 or above then you use CMP to import the files and then commit them . (but you'll need to have the built in content from 2006 if you install in TC1,2 or 3)

In 2004 you need to place the unzipped files in your Auran\world\custom\trains folder .

And with the way the third rail is arranged, you're going to get shorts, preventing train moves that way. :P

The con rail always faces away from the track, and platforms*.

*Where possible, sometimes, the con rail is directly below the platform face where excessive point work is found.

I think that may have happened because I had been fiddling about with tracks and points. But yes, I do use a lot of signals I must admit, if there's a point ahead I usually stick a signal in front of it if it's a traling one.
As you may have guessed, signalling isn't my sprong point, but when I test run the route rarely has a hiccup....
I think the best thing to do is to change my signals for the VSR ones anyway, they are georgeous.

I've always found that working with cantenaries is hard. I'm making a route now and I'm still trying to figure out a way how to make the cantenaries fit. What I mean by that is, making them straight. On most splines you can use the straighten track button to straighten that spline but it doesn't seem to work with cantenaries.

I notice from the piccy that the 3rd rail is on the outside for SR, which I use, but that is against the built-in 'Track Direction' when laid for the Southern because when laid 'in flow' the third rail is on the inside of both.

Call me Angela, leave the h off, it's too formal....

I did have Word but it kept opening when I least expected it to and not when I wanted, it drove me mad so I changed to Lotus.
I'll have a look at your suggestion, and thanks for that.
But it won't alter the fact that British Southern will run against the built-in 'direction' implanted by Auran and I feel that will cause problems with AI.

I always use single track to take advantage of the 'direction' in it so putting the power rail to the outside will cause that to be opposite.
I might try to find a single power rail and use plain 2-rail track if I find hiccups, I know there is some. Have you had any?

Yes, that's what I have been using, you can see it in my screenies. But to get the 'direction' correct this must be laid power rail inside.

Thanks for replying so quickly.

My eyes are playing up now so I must get off the PC. I'll look again in the morning.

Yes, I know all about those.... but thanks anyway.

I will do what I always do, experiment with different tracks now I have the other ones and the atand-alone power rails to 'play' with.

I've always found that working with cantenaries is hard. I'm making a route now and I'm still trying to figure out a way how to make the cantenaries fit. What I mean by that is, making them straight.

Tip, DON'T bother making catenary straight, they're not (if you believe it or not!).
Overhead wiring moves slightly side to side to even out wear on the pantograph head, as if you had a wire going to point A to point B in one straight line, you might find that the friction produced by the steel wire and pantograph head, may create a groove in the head after some distance, thus the wire could get locked into that position and bring down the catenary when the direction changes. (I might be wrong though)

No WEN you are very correct in your statement. Although its copper wire not steel wire as that gives the best conductivity with the least amount of resistance. The best metal to use would be gold but I can't see 24k gold wires going up along the network can you ;)

that reminds me of last february when someone cut a section out of the signaling wire so everyone got diverted down another way (except the NXEC passengers due to lack of electrification!! man i felt happy knowing I was on a voyager and wouldn't be stranded)(although I also felt for the stranded people since it was about 10:30pm)

Hi ex-railwayman, how does the layout run 'Frame Rates' wise?

I'm going to be posting a lot more details about the route soon. But I'm taking my Dad (weather permitting) to the Warley Show at the NEC today so it wont be until later.

I'm certain that Bob's assets are a window that he did for me sometime back.

I reckon those by zxr400 are for locomotives (his class 33'a) that I tested part of the layout with. If so, I dont understand why they are still on there as all rolling stock was deleted before I sent it to the DLS.

I'll get back to you asap.

Chris

ex-railwayman
November 23rd, 2008, 06:37 AM
Hello Chris, yes, I thought they might be Mark Scully's locomotives, not too worry then, I've deleted them and the 1 asset by Bob, sorry Bob, no offence....:hehe:

Rather than hi-jack this thread, I'll send you a PM and we can discuss things better there.

Cheerz. ex.

P.S. I'll pop a couple of screenies up for the community, but, a warning to all is that Chris's layouts use a lot of eye-candy and it's very heavy on the frame rates - mid to high end computers recommended.

Hello Rikki,
I have been using 04 since, well, 04 really.... and have had little to no problems.
What I have found is the download (Un) Helper doesn't help! It does nothing for me at all so I gave up on that soon after trying to get it to work.
All my mass of assets were downloaded using the ftp option instead - works every time )almost! ... ha ha)

God bless,

Angela

Angela,
I have finally got the recalcitrant thing to work for me, praise be.
I know I've said it before, but I will get some screen shots up as soon as I feel comfortable with what I have. Looking through the shots on this particular thread, the images are simply stunning (especially, but not restricted to, Emo's pictures from the previous page - Jaw-dropping) and my route is just not ready for public display.
Perhaps I should just get one up anyway, get the ball rolling....

Thought I would keep my promise and post something to get me started.

In my opinion, there's nothing more romantic in Steam than LNER 4472 "Th Flying Scotsman" thundering up a grade, even with the wrong carriages in tow! This route is far from finished, but I'm enjoying thus far.

PS - I realise this is VERY bare, and hardly worthy of posting on this thread, but I just wanted to get something up. I've been at this route for a week now; it's quite ambitious and I've only just got the track work finished, and after quite a lot of trial and error the signalling is working.

Cracking shots, everybody. St Germans is looking really good, Marky7890.

My first 09 shot- I just love the hugely extended draw distance. Looe harbour bridge (a spline) and beyond is just visible from somewhere over Sandplace- a real world distance of around 1.8 miles :D :-
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/martin_poole/images/09firstshot.jpg

(I need to have a play with the jpg compression settings for my shots, though. Now they're jpg by default the settings I was using for the old tgas, after cropping, makes it look a bit too fuzzy.)

Tom,

I went to the Trainz tuner website, and it said

This version adds support for any version of Trainz* and an option to view miles instead of meters.

and further down below it said

*Any version of Trainz, as long as it has the same structure of Trainz Railroad Simulator (TRS2004): it must have a "tuning.dat" file in the "Settings" folder, and an options file named "trainzoptions.txt" or "trainzclassicoptions.txt"

So, if you have a tuning.dat in the settings folder, and a trainzoptions.txt or a trainzclassicsoptions.txt, you should be set to go.

Thanks for your reply Isaac, but it still doesn't work. I have checked, and yes there is a tuning.dat present in the Settings folder, and the trainzclassicsoptions.txt in the TC folder, but it still won't have it. I open up Trainz Tuner and change the search destination to my Program Files/Auran/TC folder, but it won't recognise there is one there. I will download the program again and reinstall, see if that works. Anyone have the website address for the program?

Sorry about that guys, for some reason it is being dodgy and won't let me type anything under my screenies, or put them in the order I want (67 shot came first)

the captions are : 67028 leads 31466, 3 VDAs, 3 MK2's and 37057 on an EWS Test, which limps through stations.

and : 37057 awaits next orders.

(tha actual reason for the test was to see what I can delete from trackside areas that I may miss when doing all of the trees etc)

There would have been a 58 on the rear of 37057, but this failed before these shots were taken, so was left in a siding.

Yep, they looked exactly like the tracks used on the CTRL, so I thought I would use them :D

But there is a little problem, the rails are slightly too wide apart and it looks like some trains are running on the sleepers  - maybe it is a different gague?

They are Spanish gauge 1668 mm

Our gauge is 1435 mm

Yes excellent shot Overmars , I wonder who'll be the first to alter the Decin route to British practice (overheads signals etc)

There is definitely a UK gauge version of that track which has the look of newly laid UK "grey" ballast though.....the version that's in my previous screenshot in fact. Surely that will do? :)

It will take too much effort to change all the track now anyway - it's not very noticable that the wheels are slightly inward from the track, so it's not much of a problem :)

Hello Rikki, have you downloaded the fantastic route Along UTA Lines by harcourt from the DLS, to accomodate your new found toy, it's the best Northern Irish route available anywhere to be found and with Tony Corken's wonderful rolling stock, it'll keep you happy for years.....:hehe:

ex-railwayman, I didn't know about that route so I went and had a look there.
Judging by the look of it, my attempt to download would be futile.
I have no doubts it would download, but the sheer size puts me off. I recently downloaded Angela's "Avalon" which is only about a 10th the overall file size of "Along UTA Lines" yet, alas, when I went to driver it was taking quite literally an age to "cache" and led to me bringing up task manager to close the program.
Is this more to do with the amount of dependencies or the amount of "boards"? I'd love to have that UTA layout (seeing as I'm a North Ireland Railways fan!) but don't want to be left disappointed....

Hi Rikki, yes sorry, forgot that it is huge and maybe cumbersome for you to download. What about the smaller version of this then by harcourt named LMS in Ireland Vol 1 + 2, try that one for size, or just volume 1....

What you need to do is go into Preferences and push the Detail and both Draw Distances across to reduce them. This will also apply to daytime fog, but you will need to apply this to the full. Then Avalon will actually run on your PC.

Ah, sorry Liam! My bad! Erm, that is a mix of parts, the base of the bridge is Conc slab 10m or 15m or something along those lines, and the glass sections come in a Spline. They are called something like 'Overkapping 16m plat grijs'. I wanted to create something like Leeds station with the large walkover which doubles up as a waiting room and somewhere with a cafe! I'll post some more pics of it tomorrow if that will help!
