Whilst it is a rather nice screenie, at 7 fps i doubt its enjoyable ingame ...

After going on a downloading spree, i should hopefully get some screenies up soon !

I think my comments of the 150, is best left to myself! (Not because of the fact I hate it, there's a few things that just stick out too much to me.)

Until my steam driven PC gets an upgrade I'm just mucking about with three or four boards. I've based this on some track layout I found, but I can't remember where it was of. I've added a bit near the shed, but the station is the same. I'm no good at this modern signalling, so it ain't there. I might make a cdp of it and add a link, but it won't be today, just when I get around to it. My power unit is on the blink and I only get about 10-15 mins on the PC before it shuts down, so I'd better shut up. Greg, send us a phone number please.

Four shots and four to follow. Dave

Nice shots everyone.
Here are a few from the OVR Diesel gala.
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd155/tlblade/fsscr194.jpg
Here we see the Lines CO-BO in the down platform. The train in the up platform isn't hauled by a Diesel this is because the diesel shed are at Olemouth which has been cut of from the north section of the line because of the land slip and now one of the 5 bridges between Wolverton and Olemouth has had to be taken down after being Condemned.
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd155/tlblade/fsscr197.jpg
The Newest arrival on the line is 50713 Kocho which has been sold to the line after LRT went Bank rupt. Here we see her a Troutbridge in her new Livery.
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd155/tlblade/fsscr198.jpg
At Gainsborough we see a small garrat the lines 7f waiting in the station while behind them we see a class 321 entering the other station.
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd155/tlblade/fsscr199.jpg
All under repair at the moment we see the rest of the Class 50/7 in the new Gainsborough roundhouse museum 50702, 50705 and 50709 are Privately owned. While 50706 and 50713 are owned by the OVRC. We also see the lines still to be finished 9F it still hasn't got its boiler yet.

Hmmm, you'll have to ask some one important on that one...The thread for RS pics got closed and this is a trainz for not a all round simulator forum but you'll have to ask some one important like I say. Ask a moderator or a admin. :)

I've been working on a frame-rate friendly Liskeard- no pavements, fences, garden sheds etc. I'm trying to get a decent 'built up' area effect, and at the moment I'm getting similar frame rates to the Hawes area in the default 2006 route. I've stuck to a very limited range of built-in and dls only trees, buildings and textures- there are under 200 assets in the whole Liskeard-Looe route so far. I've got loads more buildings and trees to add, but in the meantime I would appreciate feedback on whether the lack of fine detail is likely to be regarded as a problem:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/martin_poole/images/liskeardtown.jpg

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/martin_poole/images/liskeardtown2.jpg

I would also appreciate any dls suggestions for the large shed that should sit over the siding in front of the 67- I think it has a corrugated roof and concrete walls but I haven't found a good picture of it on the net yet.

Cheers

Yes, the yard area is very dull! Maybe high bits like the hills could have more details but where the bit that are hidden behind a tree can be less detailed?

Good morning R3,

Check out 'Shed - Open' by Leefer (kuid 262137:10236). This is a favourite piece of content for me at the moment.

You will need to find a concrete wall to enclose it, but I'm certain there are plenty of those available.

I must stress, I've not seen the shed in question, so dont know if what I've suggested is appropriate.

Hi R3

I always work on the basis that given time an ordinary PC will have no problem with such routes. The advances in technology have already come along way since TRAINZ was first introduced and we just have to be patient. My son's PC can have 8GB of RAM and it already has 4. Not so long ago RAM was measured in MB. Just a few years back I was running a Pentium 286 with 16MB of RAM. Laughable really.

With today's PCs such as ones with spec Dave mentions above you shouldn't have to make this choice anymore. It's now possible to have baseboards full to to the brim with splines, set scenery and yet have high FPS. (I need to talk to you about that Dave btw) (oh and check your PMs).

The pigs have shoe beams under the leading bogies on the driving cars and trailing on the trailer cards. Secondly, its a skirt, it has a massive hole in it, where there is horns, eth connections, airpipes, etc ( http://www.southernelectric.org.uk/features/swt442f08a.html )

nah TL has done it himself, because apparently the only difference between a Grange and a Manor is weight, the Grange is a heavier locomotive therefore holds a higher tractive effort so TL has been fairly clever in doing a quick renumbring and renaming, though I will say the Letters and cabside number are a little too yellow and need toning down what I would suggest doing is open the origanal file and use the pippet tool to select the colour from the origanal Number plate and nameplate.

Actually the Grange and Manor class locos are very different. The Grange class of locos is a derivative of the Hall class locomotives with a smaller driving wheel diameter, 5'8" for the Grange and 6' for the Hall. Their are other detail differences between the Hall and Grange class locos. When calculating tractive effort for a steam locomotive weight has nothing to do with it. The values required used for calculating tractive effort are boiler pressure, piston diameter, piston stroke, wheel diameter and a constant. The constant changes between country's and builders, Mainline UK railways used a constant of 0.85, Industrial railways usually went for 0.6. The constant represents losses in pressure and friction.

The Manor and the Grange where built along the same designs. The Designs both appeared from the modification of a 43XX and the first grange appeared in 1936 followed by the Manor in 1938. The Grange was different that it had a large boiler and had a greater weight But the Frames and wheels where the same as the Manors because the originated from the 43XX. It was mid way between the Hall and The Manor. But the Grange is more like the Manor then the Hall.

@escafeld Llanfair Grange was No 6877. I have the works picture of the first grange and the name is Arlington Grange

But None of that Matters for the time unless anyone is planning to make a Grange this will do for me.

Re the Granges compared to Manors
But the Frames and wheels where the same as the Manors because the originated from the 43XX.

The Grange frames are 15 inches longer between the rear driver centre & cab rear compared to the Manor to accomodate the larger firebox & boiler.Afaik only the valve gear & wheels from the 43XX were reused on the Manors & Granges, the frames were new.

Lewisner - You have to have comparable machines to do a comparison. My machine is rather dated now and got to the point where I am no longer able to work on my largest layout, let alone run on it. I've just done a fictional station where the drive through is a bit of a struggle to get through where you can even count the frames. I've sent it to Gamerouche (Tom) to see what he makes of it. I'll send it to you if you wish and see how you get on with it. I would be interesting to compare specs and results. BTW, I need you to mail me an address if you're interested.

I've been operating Dave's layout over the weekend & the detailing is superb however, the station which is the most populated section only gives me around 7-9 FPS with 1 consist operating, (measured with FRAPS)

hence why I'm scenery reducing, I have a rubbish computer, I just want to play trains! shots are an added bonus

anyway, I heard a coal train was coming, so I rushed down to the local station to phot it, when I got there, it was coming around the corner, led by 26014, with 41 HAA hopper wagons, fully loaded

the total weight of the coal train was 1879 tons, and I got 2.5 fps here!!!

After the train had sped through, I got 8 fps

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd107/hymek/26014.jpg
Shame about the 26 options menu!!

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd107/hymek/4427787.jpg
After the 26 had gone, a typical branch line scene was created, with 44277 and GER 87 awaiting departure with empty coal and mixed freight respectively

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd107/hymek/branchscene.jpg
the rain cleared just long enough for me to take this final shot, 87 will leave once the 26 had cleared the signals, 44277 will follow after the next stopping passenger (which was due in about 45 minutes)

My steam driven PC is an Athlon 2.08 with 1GB RAM with an Asrok 333MHz graphics card. Not really cutting edge

I got between 5 and 11 frames here

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a303/escafeld01/Screen_095.jpg

23 to 28 here

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a303/escafeld01/Screen_099.jpg

but only 1 to 3 here!

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a303/escafeld01/Screen_087.jpg

I have my own theories about framerates. I think the amount of downloads in the Downloads folder has an influence. I also think the amount of routes kept in Maps makes a difference.

In Surveyor I got 18 here

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a303/escafeld01/Screen_118.jpg

but when I changed from ALL/ALL to 4Toolz in Objects – Add object, it changed to 35

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a303/escafeld01/Screen_119.jpg

Out away from a 'busy' area where there is only track and mixed texture I still only got 38 and the reason for all the low numbers is other things running in the background like Google and Virus Updaters. Looking in Windows Task Manager shows several other things running that I'm not familiar with and don't know which to turn off.

Paulsw2 they are Point Connector Rods 1,2 and 4 by Natvander - KUIDs 61119:37101 , 61119:37100 and 61119:37103 respectively... P.S Search the DLS for "Steldraht" and you"ll have some nice Signal Wires to go with the rods, but kiss your FPS goodbye.

Looking good, Mark- we should compare notes!

Just curious but are you happy with the draw distance for the viaduct at Moorswater? I'm a bit frustrated that the spline I've used in my version doesn't stay visible from far enough away and all I can see from just south of Coombe is a great big gap in the terrain.

I might have a go at a custom non-spline object for this, which I guess would be of interest to you;)?

Nice reskin Ben!

Um, as for the FMA stuff, I've never really had any problems.

I lower the ground where I need to, lay track, set any spline points to the required height, and then add the embankment. As I lay the embankment, I make sure that any spline points are in the same place as those on the track, and then set the height of the embankment splinee to 0.1 less than that of the track.

Never really thought it takes ages...I'm not sure if we both do it the same way though :p .

ooh, fair enough!

anyway, i got bored and decided to make my trains that one more bit realists by adding numbers to those who don't carry them

I decided to turn to the (in need of updating! if anyone fanices a challenge) class 117 DMU, I picked a set at random from my head, resulting in L425 51363 and 51405 (minus centre car)

Not necessarily - it seems to be a UK layout, and on ex LNER lines Fast And Slow tracks were usually "paired by direction" whereas on the LMS they would be "paired by speed".

Stop hinting! I know that set very well too, I've already copped it for haulage which took me bloody ages to do!. (L425 - not L127 as I thought it was, as theres always drums around the sheds marked with that number. - currently resides on the MHR! And don't ask for the trailer number, I honestly don't know it!)

I guess your bubble is going to be numbered W55003 then. ;-)

(for the record, I have started updating the 117, but on the wrong bit for the moment.)

EDIT: If you want to be pedantic, then you could use 55003+51400+51363+51405 :)

Yes but the 56 is running towards the camera on the third track of four and I presume 'we' are heading in the opposite direction.

Look alright to me. Like from london paddington out towards reading 4 tracks with directions like this:

_______________ >>> Fast _____________
_______________ <<< Fast _____________
_______________ >>> Slow _____________
_______________ <<< slow _____________

On the picture you are on the 3rd line down with one heading on the slow towards you (bottom line) and one pulling away on the fast (top line)
(Depending on direction you may be on the 2nd line with one on the top line and one on the bottom line about to be overtaken by you.)

In IC125s post the trains are a Class 377 and Class 357. They are avaible on www.railwaves.com (http://www.railwaves.com). But he has reskinned them, and he can't reskin them due to them being payware

In Birdbrains post , the board is called Panneau Annonce and is avaible on the DLS

In my post the voager is avaible from the same site as IC125s 377 and 375.

I hope this helps
