Some time ago I downloaded the SP 1 file from " Just Flight " but no matter how many times I tried ( at least 12 ) it has never worked and my TRS2006 remains as I bought it. I followed the install instuctions to the letter by the way.
Is there anything I can do ? ie buy SP1 on a disc ( will this help )
I'm sure SP1 will greatly reduce various problems I have but I just don't know how to get it installed.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks

What build number have you got before installing SP1 please? That information will help us to check that you're applying the correct service pack file.

I tried several SP1 packages from various sources. They were all corrupt.
Finally I downloaded from http://www.gameshell (http://Gameshell).com. Never had a problem after that. Try it. Good luck. :)

You must apply precisely the correct service pack file, otherwise it either won't work or it will leave Trainz in an unworkable mess.
The build number is the key to locating the correct service pack file. The build number tells us which major version of Trainz you've got (UTC, TRS2004, TRS2006, TC, etc), what service pack level it's currently at, and which regional edition it is (Aus/USA, UK, etc).
Each service pack file has two numbers in its filename. The first number must match precisely with your current build number. The second number says what build number will result after applying the service pack.
Many apologies if you were already aware of all this.

PJ,
Sounds like you've got the right file. The Just Trains version is indeed the one you want.
One key factor during the installation of SP1 is to not run TRS2006 beforehand. In practice that means you need to:
Backup anything you've created or downloaded and want to keep.
Uninstall TRS2006.
Reinstall TRS2006.
Immediately install SP1. Don't run TRS2006 at all, not even as far as the opening menu, before installing SP1.
Restore your backed up items, if any.Can you confirm please that you did it that way?

Yes I did it correctly, to be fair the instructions were very good and precise however it just will not work, after doing each install the build number just stayed the same showing that it did not download.
I also have looked at gameshell, there is only one ( that i could see ) 2006 sp1 patch but it does not say for which build its for ?
Thanks

With respect to the previous poster I'd advise you to forget GameShell as it's probably not for the UK edition of TRS2006.
The Just Trains version is what you want. Let's check you got a good download:
The filename should be TRS2006_UK_2773-3099.exe
The size as reported by Windows Explorer should be 728,139KB
The MD5 checksum should be 349da684dc687e8c0b023fa21178c611
You can use a program such as MD5Check to display the MD5 checksum. It's available free from http://www.mgillespie.plus.com (in the first section of that page). It's a zip file so you have to manually extract its contents. When it runs it'll take a little while to process because the service pack is a large file.

Hi,
I had this problem, and it lies in the fact that there is something wrong with the patch that was on Justflight. Re downloading the parch should fix this error.

Thanks

The link to SP1 for the UK edition of TRS2006 on Just Trains is
http://www.justtrains.net/faqs.asp?drdProduct=90&supportProductName=Trainz%202006#Update263
I wouldn't bother exploring paying money for SP1 as you can purchase a fully legit new copy of TRS2006 from Play.com for 4.75 GB Pounds including delivery and this will almost certainly be the SP1 version.

Hi John
Thanks for the great help you've given me on this. If I were to buy an updated version with sp1 already installed what happens to my first class ticket I have with my current version ? and the layouts I've backed up on seperate hard drive, will they load onto the new version ?
Thanks

As far as I know, you can use the same product key/serial number with a new copy as you used with the first copy, and disregard the product key/serial number for the new copy. Therefore you wouldn't need to re-register with Planet Auran or do anything regarding your FCT. I think this is both technically possible and also perfectly legal and acceptable to Auran but if anyone knows different perhaps they could post a comment here. Morally I don't see any problem as you've paid for everything.
Everything backed up from TRS2006 with no service pack can be restored into TRS2006 with SP1 applied (again, as far as I know). The new copy's installed program files will be exactly the same as if you'd applied SP1 to the old copy. However, make sure you've backed everything up in the approved manner (see other threads) before uninstalling.
I'm not sure you'd automatically keep the same user kuid. Perhaps someone else can help regarding that if it concerns you.
However, I'm still mystified why SP1 won't install for you. If you want to pursue that line of thought, the next question is whether the MD5 matches ok.

Sorry John but I've already deleated the download as per Collins states its got a fault. I have downloaded the updated version and tried that but it still will not work... but its given me yet another problem !!
When I now quit the game, on exit I get a fatal error message and at the same time it deletes my assets file, so before I can load up the game again I have to reload the cmp with my assets which takes anything from 10 to 20 mins which is a real pain !!! maybe this is my punishment for errors in a previous life !!!!!
Any ideas on this latest problem ?
Thanks

That sounds like a bad SP1 install.
Sorry if sounds dictatorial but in order for this to work you must check that the first build number in the filename and the MD5 are ok, then follow the SP1 installation instructions.

The only way that I know of to be certain is to install it, then run it as far as the main menu which will display the version number and more importantly the build number. If you wish, tell us that build number and we'll check if you need a service pack or not.

Cameo,
Build 3337 is TRS2006 as included with Trainz Railwayz (aka Trainz Classic) in the USA. It includes SP1 so you're fully up to date and don't need to do anything with regard to service packs.
Happy driving!
