East Kentucky 1 is on the DLS http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS_viewasset.php?AssetID=71516 See the 'Read Me' document packed with the route for links to content not on the DLS.
East Kentucky 2 is coming 'soon'.
EK3, 4 and 5 are but a gleam in their father's eye...
Thanks for the comments :)

Thanks Nikos - and I do remember I have to put the link back on my web page :)
Nikos' vid was shot on EK1 - here are a couple more, this time shot on EK2:
L&N - Daisy to Beech Fork (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_VqyG94PCI) (aprox 5 minutes - sorry, no sound)
CSX - Royal Diamond to Beech Fork (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAXg5b3rrgg) (aprox 4 minutes - I did get the sound on this one)

EK is one of my favourite routes for Trainz. Not only is it visually appealing (to me anyway).......it avoids clutter and runs like an absolute dream.
Thanks Andy for getting another EK shot thread going, though I have made a habit of visiting your site at least once a week. Can hardly wait for the EK2 release. Would make a nice Christmas present ;)
Cheers,
Simon.

From a couple of recent running sessions...
Clouds of diesel smoke everywhere as a pair of B40s working hard against the grade bring their string of empties into Leatherwood Yard while a pair of grimy SDs ease their train under the Leatherwood Tipple:
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/5420/lwood56ut9.jpg
Thirty or so years earlier a 4-unit set of L&N Fs get under way at Beech Fork:
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/8535/lwood55atc9.jpg
In the second shot I have used TrainzTuner to tweak the draw distances out a bit - what a difference it makes! And you are right - a train like that has no business whatsoever at Beech Fork. Looks good though :)

I really like that last shot. Very nice trackwork. Wish I could do something that nice. Maybe with a lot of practice. Can't wait for the next version.

Ahhh......TrainzTuner. I too have recently tweaked draw distances with this hand utility, Andy. EK1 was my guinea pig for testing too. I thought I was using a different simulator entirely.
Also noticable in those shots is the doing away with those rotten default levers/switches. ;)
Cheers,
Simon.

I love the first East Kentucky, Dermmy, and am really looking forward to V2. EK1 was the route on which I first learned to use the Release Junction rule to end a standoff (that Alastair!...what a nutty guy!).

Sorry Simon, but mostly they are still there :(
I had to use something lower on slip switches because the default lever position is so far out it fouls adjacent tracks, so all complex track areas now have local towers and electric levers. Remote areas still have the 'orrible default lever.
My eternal gratitude goes to the first person to suggest a realistic, lo-poly lever suitable for the overall 1950's/60's look of the route which is NOT a part of a left/right handed pair. I can swap a single lever in TO in about thirty seconds, but left/right handed levers would have to be replaced and renamed individually - huge job....

I have always liked the way the Jet graphics engine handles perspective, and although it is pretty simple this screenie is one of my favourites.
A loaded coal train from Tilford #2 on the Blair Fork Spur drifts downgrade past a cut of empties waiting at Tilford #1......

To keep the size reasonable I have cropped the image above from the original. The bigger version does look better, here's a linked thumbnail for anybody up to it...

Well Andy.....let's just say there is another space elsewhere that I'm watchin' ;) .....(nice readme file!!)
I think I do speak for many about the anticipation factor of EK2.

Thanks Maartentje - EK2 contains several coal mines, but the branch has no passenger stations except one at Slemp which I have tried to model in a disused state. It featured in several screenies including my signature picture.
@ Boc - Thanks!

@Dermmy - Just installed EK1 and it works flaulessly. See you are running L&N and CRX. Is/was there a local line during that era?
Can't wait for EK2 - Very nice work

OT - Sorry about the state of my web site. It was originally done with M$ FrontPage which point blank refuses to install on my new machine and attempting to edit with another program played havoc with the graphics. I will get it fixed 'soon' (tm)!
@Jack 'Local Line?' - Not sure what you are asking...
@titaniclover - a series of self-contained route/scenario/content disks Auran are proposing.

The Davidson Spur departs the EK main at the small community of Lothair, just east of Hazard. The current prototype track arrangement is a simple spur into a single large mine complex which empty trains access by being pushed backwards from Hazard Yard, a trip of about two miles which requires a caboose on the 'front' on account of a couple of road crossings. The Tiger data however shows a more complex arrangement with a second mine complex a mile or so farther downstream accessed by a wye located below a long road bridge. Satellite images clearly show that a mine is (or was) in the area, so I have let my imagination run riot and come up with this complex but visually pleasing arrangement. There were originally three Tipples on the western end of Davidson Spur, Bluegrass #3 and #4 and Starfire, so I have tentatively named the tipple on the eastern end of Davidson Spur Starfire #2. Does anybody know the facts? In keeping with the 'early' time period, a pair of L&N RS3s arrive from Hazard while a pair of S2s wait to get to work on the empties.
Andy :)
