Hi good people, I have a BIG favour to ask, about the new CSR Class. Who has seen it and who can confirm if the windows are tinted blue and if so, how much are these tinted. As on some pictures I have seen, there is a distinctive blue tint on these windows, sometimes more and deeper blue and sometimes none. Plus I need urgently some extra close up pictures which show details which those long range and sort of "train lover's" pictures taken normally do not show and which are possibly not yet on the internet. I have never seen this locomotives yet, hence I can only go by the pictures which are available, to create it.

Nothing wrong of anyone taking pictures of locomotives but from a creator's point of view, one needs for example 90 degrees side on pictures from which to scale the dimensions of a locomotive from. As there are NO drawings nor any other info is available of any recent Oz locomotive. Usually it is the length which is known, some 22 point something meters and that is about all.

So PLEASE, anyone who possibly has seen the CSR Class yet and/or who took pictures of it, I would very much like to know the above info, if possible. Young Mick (thanks a lot pal) has send me some beaut pictures taken with a telephoto lens, hence I have good roof details, some bogey details but not really enough of what is clearly under the platform from both sides. Plus a couple of good bogey pictures in detail and closeup would be nice. I know, pictures can only be taken when the CSR Class is mobile as there is normally no access to any SCT depot or yard or such to get close enough. I would like to make the CSR Class to the same standard as the SCT/LDP Classes are made by me.

I started today on it, as I wanted a break from the TT and other classes for a little while, here are some crude screenshots of the CSR Class. Remember, the CSR Class is sitting a bit higher and has a lot of room filled up under the platform and of course I haven't started with the bogies yet plus please ignore all the wrong things on these pictures:

G'day Vinny!

Cheers for the compliment on my layout, big privilege to get a quote from you! :hehe:

I came face to face with two CSRs earlier this year, and I'd have to say there is a slight blue tinge to the windows.

Cheers!

Hello Everyone

@NSWGR_46 class

Very nice looking DH locomotive, should be a nice performer on NG QHR Brooloo; but the logo should be red; as I have been cross checking with the offical Queensland Railways paint schemes handbook dated 1971 which was formally issued to all QR Railway Workshops from the Chief Mechanical Engineers & Workshop Sup. Ipswich - the offical "Swiggle" as affectionally known by QR Employees; according to the handbook should be according to the notes on the DH Class;

"..The logo must be painted with Dulux P0H49 - Red Box [RED], the loco must be painted with a light brunswick green with a 5inch white rectangluar stripe with a gold 1 inch gold stripe..."
http://www.railpage.org.au/qrhistory/images/DH/DH09.jpg
[Photo (C) Frank Archer]

@ Ghosty, over time the logos started to fade in some class members as you refferenced, become a yellow due to the harsh queensland climate and the some of the locomotives getting stored in the open air as such the case in Tropical North Queensland when I was noting as a young boy growing up in townsville during the 1990's watching one of the last DH's rostered in the town shunt in North Yard, it had a slightly half orange - half red. All QR Diesels [ except Clyde 1461 & English Electric 1281] had red swiggles. The paint schemes handbook states in misc on page 130; regarding decials, cabside numbers and logos.

Would any chance, have any QR Signal & Pointwork Diagrams for the Suburban - Interurban Network, as they would help the QR City Train Project and my planned model railway of Ascot.

A "little" bit north and "slightly" west of Townsville [actually a fair bit north west of Townsville] is Forsayth with a line heading into Cairns. There is a 20 minute YouTube doco from the early 80's about the Freight / Mixed Train which ran from Forsayth to Cairns in Northern Queensland. Starts with the train hauled by double headed DH class and later swaps for a 1620 EE loco. That should keep the DH and EE folks happy.

http://youtu.be/jT4XwDBn1Vw

If the link is broken search youtube for "Doco from the early 80's about the Freight / Mixed Train which ran from Forsayth to Cairns in Northern Queensland" as that is copied off the page..

Thank you for the pictures or links of the CSR Class send. Big thanks go to young Mick again, he even scanned and send me some much needed pics and info. Just to show what I am doing on only my 3rd day of working on the CSR Class:

sitting higher than your average locomotive...

http://www.vinnybarb.com/pics/csrq2t.jpg (http://www.vinnybarb.com/pics/csrq2.jpg)

cabs compared side by side with the SCT cab...

http://www.vinnybarb.com/pics/csrqt.jpg (http://www.vinnybarb.com/pics/csrq.jpg)

and here side by side to see some differences...

http://www.vinnybarb.com/pics/csrq1t.jpg (http://www.vinnybarb.com/pics/csrq1.jpg)

Of course it helps a lot when I can use some parts from the SCT Class locomotive. I still need to tone down the blue window tinting, no bogies made yet, front and middle body is not finished, just logo and some paint slapped on to see what it might look like. Plus all underframe stuff, the main body and the roofing details still to be added plus lots more. Considering it is only my third day on this project, I think I done alright so far :p.

@ Michael Gitsham, did you get my email last week with the meshes and the instructions as you have asked me? If you did, a confirmation or a little thank you would have been appreciated, as I put some considerable effort into making these meshes and the tutorials of how to do these meshes. Otherwise I might not do any more favours to anyone, thanks to you, if not appreciated and will spend my time more wisely and productive.

If you did not receive it (I can not see why not as it did not bounce and as you gave me your email address), well my apologies for jumping the gun.

Cheers

I have posted some downloadable timetables between Sydney NSW and Cairns QLD for 1969 and 1974 over on "Wheels On steel" forum http://www.wheelsonsteel.com.au/showthread.php?tid=6366

1969 covers; N1 / N2 Brisbane Limited Express, N3 /N4 Brisbane Express [via Kyogle], N17 /N18 Brisbane Express [via Wallangarra]. QLD trains are Sunlander, including dining car travel stages, Rockhampton mail and Wallangarra Brisbane connection for N17/N18.

1974 Sydney Cairns public train timetable, includes N1 / N2 Brisbane Limited Express, Sunlander with dining car attached all journey from 1970 and The Capricornian which replaced the Rocky Mail,

making progress on the CSR Class, today I started on the bogies to give me a bit of change and that is as far as I got. Boy, these new bogies are hard to model only from these few pictures available, which don't even show what I need to see but I will get there. As usual, ignore all the extra bits and pieces not in place yet including the steps, they are from the SCT Class and need major surgery to make CSR steps out of them.

Just for being so nice another progress shot of the CSR Class bogey, which I should finish by tomorrow. Not bad for 3 days work by tomorrow on that bogey. Disregard the big shock absorber, this still needs rescaling. Plus the 8 coil springs need smoothing too, I just realized. Plus if you look closely, only one side of the bogey is done (the axles and wheels excepted). Once the half of this side is finished, I only need to clone and mirror these to get my other side of the bogey. Too easy :p.

http://www.vinnybarb.com/pics/bcsr3t.jpg (http://www.vinnybarb.com/pics/bcsr3.jpg)

http://www.vinnybarb.com/pics/bcsr4t.jpg (http://www.vinnybarb.com/pics/bcsr4.jpg)

Brake and air pipes will be installed on bogey when underbody/chassis work above the bogies is done on the locomotive itself. 3 days work only on these bogies, the fastest I ever finished completely new ones. It helps a lot when I can use some parts (albeit modified etc.) from others of my bogies.

Now on to the CSR Class body itself, to the complicated bits :hehe:.

Thank you for posting that link. I have a suspicion, the windows on the CSR Class are those photo chromatic glass windows (or whatever these are called) similar to some glasses one can wear which turn darker in bright sunlight. On some pictures of the CSR Class there is no blue tint whatsoever to be seen, yet on some others this goes right up to a deep blue tint.

Hello Everyone;

If you living in Qld, you would know about the Ekka. But if your scratching your head and thinking what is Ekka?

Ekka stands for the Royal Brisbane Exhibition.

Let turn back to 1959, when the Cane Toad & Four X Railways (Queensland Railways) was still running the original Gold Coast Railway. During Ekka, coaching stock was limited so all manner of carriages were rostering in for Ekka Service as the network was strained to it limited convaying passengers to and from the show. Normal services were shortened as Carriage stock was diverted to show trains, so it was common to see 2, 3 and 4 car trains making up a consist, sometimes older and close to withdrawn carriages were used; some from the 1880s!!

Just a quick few shots. I was also wondering with the DEB Railcars, regarding the make-up of a consist. Is there a 'proper way to do it', like how the 620/720 railcars are always one of each in a set, is it best to have one 900 motor, followed by one or two 800 class trailers, and then a 950 motor at the end, or should each consist consist of either two 900 motors, or two 950 motors? Thanks. :)

Your right it should be 900 or 950 power cars at each end not mixed 900 one end a 950 the other.

The DEB sets were air-conditioned and intended for long distance main line services. The DEB sets were deployed in 3 and 4-car units consisting of a driving power car at each end and 1 or 2 trailer cars in the centre. Buffet services were provided from one of the trailer cars in each unit.

The power cars had two different configurations, the 900 Class (PF 901-910) having full passenger seating, while the 950 Class (HPF 951-958) had a compartment for 4 tons of luggage in addition to passenger seating. PF 906 was rebuilt as HPF 959 in 1982.

The trailer cars had a number of different seating configurations, depending upon which of the services they were deployed. There were three First Class passenger cars (TB 801-803), seven Second Class sitting cars with buffer (TFR 851-857), two composite sitting cars with buffet (TCR 861-862) and three composite sitting cars (TC 751-753).

There were also three parcel trailers built with dual braking systems to enable them to work with normal Westinghouse braked passenger stock and with the rail car fleet. These were coded TP 351-353 and worked through from Sydney on overnight mail trains to connect with the Far West Express at Dubbo and obviated the necessity of transhipping luggage and parcels between the mail and the rail car service. Power for lighting and air-conditioning was provided to the trailer from the adjoining power car.

All sent to the DLS - the name boards are setup to look best on a 38 - but in theory will fit on many locos.

They are just a loco that couples to the front of a steamer - the only fault in this system is that you lose the headlight control on the steamer that in theory is now you second loco not your lead loco. But its a quick and easy way to put head boards on a steamer -- I am working on a few other headboard ideas but not letting the cat out of the bag on thoses yet.

Brisbane Kyogle Casino 27-2-1955 NSW Northern Division WTT [540 KB PDF]. This not the full Sydney Brisbane WTT.
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0ByB-ppGeDyvwdXpudmgxZ0xsekk/edit

Some of the pages reflect the fact a “friend of a friend” originally copied it out of a stiffly bound book.

Both N2 Brisbane Limited Express and N4 Brisbane Express in this era left South Brisbane before the corresponding northbound N1 and N3 services arrived at South Brisbane. Their crossings in the border ranges are shown.

In the WTT a horizontal black line with a horizontal digit next to it at a crossing loop shows the train that was crossed at that location eg N1 Brisbane Limited crosses it southbound counterpart N2 at Glenapp and N4 Brisbane Express at Tamrookum. The Glenapp entry has a “L” in the digits for N1 which reflects time allowed for Loco eg fill tender with water and clean fire or oil motion etc. N1 also had “L” = loco at Casino. I assume the R in the middle of the digits at Casino for N1 also means refreshments at the RRR. I only have these pages from this WTT.

Also shown are the sometimes 13 class tank loco hauled trains sometimes referred to it as “The Squirt” and later “The Mountain Goat”. The early morning N23/N24 and afternoon N29/N30 were variously listed as goods, mixed and passenger in the WTT. These catered for local traffic on the Casino / Border Loop section. It had end platform passenger cars, van and some goods wagons as required. It carried dairy, timber, school kids, shoppers and any other person or commodity as required. The notes at the bottom of the pages show some of the stopping places and services these trains supplied.

Timetable is dated 27-2-1955 which is before 42 class diesels were introduced. Clyde GM 4201was handed over to the NSWGR at a ceremony 28 November 1955.

Following from “The 42 class of NSW”, Morahan, M, ARHS Bulletin Jan 1985, to help those not aware of the intro of diesels onto the NSW North Coast passenger service. There were some earlier 40 class tests as well, I understand.

Loco 4201 worked No. 1 Brisbane Limited express to Casino on December 4 1955 and returned on No. 4 Brisbane express. The 1000-mile round trip was completed in 38 hrs 8 min., including laying over at Casino for 4 hrs 49 min. No. 4 arrived in Sydney 38 min. early. This was followed by a special test run with a 460-ton freight train from Sydney (Darling Harbour) to Clapham (Brisbane) on December 8, returning from Clapham on December 9 to determine running times for the faster operation of Nos. 1 and 2 Brisbane Limited express as from January 22 1956. The northbound express will be accelerated by 2 hrs 55 min. and No. 4's time will be reduced by 3 hrs 35 min."
Following the delivery of 4401 on 8th July, 1957, the Alco classes (40, 43 and 44) quickly took over northern workings and the 42's moved to the South with the occasional Illawarra working.

Hey All
Steve the Coat Hanger is looking great, Ryan what can i say your QR shots are a work of art something to be proud of. Vinny love the work so far on all the locos and items you have contributed. Trainz89 in reference to the DH class QR logo, there is a link to a shot i took at Redbank back in the 1990's, it shows a DH class with a yellowish QR logo. The loco looked as though it had been outshopped as the paint looked fresh and uneffected from fade.

I would like to thank Kent for selecting me to be the custodian to his Toowoomba to Wallangarra Work from the work commenced so far all i can say is wow.

TO conclude now that i have a new place to live work has recommenced on Roma St/Ferny Grove and Ipswich once i get settled fully and work out my internet screenshots will return. Currently 10kms of Ipswich has had an upgrade overhaul since the weekend, the overhaul and upgrade is replacing old content. So far Ipswich to Oxley has been given the treatment.

All praise to Peter for 3801 - I only did the texture and editing to get it runing in TS12

The shadows in TS12 is a bit hit and miss I tried to use quick shadows and get round the black block that TS12 creates if it does not like you home built shadows.

I have one more tweak for the 38's but I am still playing with it more details later.

Hi Ron, remind me again, to Ipswich from Wallangarra or away from Ipswich towards Wallangarra? Or have I got my stuff wrong again? I have a friend who has also offered other items so send me an email to my usual address.

All latest timetables I have mentioned shown at Railpage's http://www.railpage.com.au/f-t11367088.htm with timetable section reorganised to help find items.

Try a different engine specs and see if that makes any difference. Usually engines do struggle a bit up an incline with a load, I guess or this would not be realistic. The engine specs I made take such things like climbing into account.

Btw, great screenshots and great looking diesel engines there as well as is Patchy's choice of the LDP Class QRNs :Y:.

That's fine. Thanks for the reply. I am just not used to it I guess. I will do further testing :) I thought under A.I it wouldn't matter what the load was.

some good routes that are available are pgibbons NSW North Coast (it is rather large), from what ive heard patchy's kingaroy, Brisbane Valley Line, Mt Isa and Cloncurry to Phosphate Hill, razorback which is built-in to ts10, a route i personally enjoy is fallow creek by muiliebuck, others on this thread can recomend more, but these ones other than patchy's i recommend, i cant recommend something i cant get to work

the old bridge on downloads was to small for the V-Set and many Trains but it was from the old plans of the old bridge, but this one is just right with a bit of room to spare

Re locomotives, try my username on the DLS, there are the various AN Classes, CLP Classes, SCT Class, LDP Classes, all made for TS12 but configured for TS09, so others with TS09/10 and TS12 can enjoy these. Plus there are heaps of other content creators having created Australian stuff. Davido has some amazing models on his web site plus lots more CCs, too numerous to list.

Just a correction, Brisbane Valley Line is by Kentith45 Cheers,Patchy

some good routes that are available are pgibbons NSW North Coast

The northern NSW ones by pgibbons is great and I often use it. Pgibbons also has done some wonderful ones in the south and south western areas of NSW.

Depends on what countryside you prefer as to which ones of pgibbons you use; coastal branches and heavy duty mainline [Casino Kyogle Muwillumbah, Ballina], south western slopes heavy duty mainline [Cootamundra Junee Wagga] South western slopes branch lines [Booroowa] or western plains branch lines out towards Griffith and Hay. Than there are the southern mountain branches to Tarcutta and Tumbarumba. Cowra region lines comes to mind as well.

The Brisbane Valley and Kingaroy ones are TZ12 and the latest pgibbons ["NSW North Coast" which is the northern ones combined] is TZ10. The other pgibbons seem to be earlier trainz versions such as tz06

The Port of Brisbane by Targanon, in tz12, was released this year. This is a major container, grain, coal, woodchip and general cargo port. The port of Brisbane has serviced extra large USN vessels. We personally have seen the giant aircraft carrier USN Ronald Reagan there which gives you a judge of the port's capacity. Major passenger liners have been "alongside" as well.

My opinion of all these routes is that all are accurate when compared to the real geography and rail features.

Must be time we set up a data base of Australian routes as we are frequently asked this question by new folk so we keep on repeating the same answers re routes, locos and rolling stock.

Could folks please add the similar high quality routes from the rest of Australia that so far seem to be left out of our answers? Our friend from the USA may like material from other parts of Australia?

I did build a support for Davido's wire spline for the Hawkesbury River Bridge and it would also be usefull on the Sydney Harbour Bridge as well, it runs throught the centre of the RSJ and holds the wire spline above and below the RSJ.
In the case of the Sydney Harbour Bridge it will hold it underneath the security inspection platforms over the track.

Those were the other NSW ones in the back of my head I was trying to remember and sorry I forgot them as I have enjoyed them! People have spoken of other routes and rollingstock in the past as well.

Any pre tz10 routes with items that are not compatible are easily upgraded by replacing or adding missing items. It is the base route and lines that are the beauty of these as the geography in the Trainz route is very much correct and a labour of love.

Thank you for your deep and meaningful input Matruck,
These locos, have been updated to TS12 so they wont be faulty, perhaps you should think before you speak. There is enough aggression in the world without you doing it here. Jaxonjared's grey ghost is a reskin of the very loco you call crap I think as author I'm perfectly within my rights to release a later version of the same loco, and no I did not use his textures as I don't have a copy of his loco. As to the headboard on Marls 38 I was trying to avoid doing a 3801 limited headboard- it is a little none fact that I worked on many of the skins for marls 38 project, but now think the mesh by Peter AD602000 is miles ahead of what is a now a rather dated 10 year old bit of beta content. And now due to the current tabacco

Just letting you all know regarding the Southern Main Line, I'm passing the creators helmet over to Ghostryder. I recently got a job in train control with Queensland Rail Kent

If folks are interested in one possible aspect of Kent's new job, just pop down to your local newsagent and look for the ARHS and similar magazines. This month’s Railway Digest has a very informative article on Direct Traffic Control. Interesting pictures as well including the Brisbane control room ones showing a mix of the digital age with the pen and paper age. Purchase available online also at http://www.arhsnsw.com.au/rdigest.htm

Hopefully the DLS won't muck up your upload of it Bear - I've noticed lately that some of your items don't seem to have uploaded properly, as I keep getting nasty red 'Could not locate Download URL - Item cannot be found on Download Station' errors in CMP when I've tried downloading some of your most recent content (specifically, the Cityrail K set cars and the Westrail M/MA class diesels - I think there was some other content you made which wouldn't download either, but I can't remember what it is specifically). They're in the Download Station list in CMP though, which makes this odd, especially as no amount of searching through the Black Pages can find them.

I know it's not your fault of course (I've noticed lately the DLS is becoming increasingly temperamental), and hopefully I haven't sounded nasty or anything, but I just wanted to let you know about this so you can follow it up with N3V about what's going wrong, as I'd hate to see more of your uploads disappear into the void for no reason.

Anyway, 3830 looks an absolute beauty (it's a pity she was always overshadowed by her big sister 3801), so great work on it as always. :)

Would anyone able to help me, I am after some tunnels/underground stuff to use for my Trainz route I am creating, which will have an underground part in it. I am after tunnels etc that will be able to fit the NSW Cityrail K & T sets heights?
Would anyone know if there are any, because I've searched the DLS and come up with nothing that fits the K or T sets and is suitable for a underground line?

Hello Everyone,

If anyone is interested in modelling West Australian Railways in trainz, I have found somethings that might be some use to you.

I was searching through my recently bought back copies of the Australian Model Railway Magazine which date from 2005 right back to 1972 which I got for free at the Nambour Swap Meet. I have found every issue in the series detailing some fancinating models and prototypes.

In a couple of issues, it details the many WAGR Steam Locomotives from the mighty S class down to the dinky G class which includes drawings photos of componets and misc details. The same goes for their carriage stock.

But the centrepiece is that, I have a complete profile on the Westrail stock, including the mighty Westrail P Class.

So if anyone is interested in acquiring these resources, please PM or email me, and I shall forward them. :D

Kindest Regards

Nice to know - I owned a number of AMRM issues with some of those articles in question, but sadly I've since lost most of them to having to hurriedly move house a few years back. Most of the WAGR articles in AMRM have been made by the various members of the AMRA WA Division's Sn3.5 scale Special Interest Group (informally known by the group as 'Railwest'), particularly Graham Watson, Andrew May and many others, many of whom I've met in real life at AMRA meetings or at local railfan events like the annual Perth Model Train Show.

If you're interested Michael, there are also numerous publications which also detail the former WA government system and it's unique collection of motive power and rollingstock. In particular, two publications regarded as the 'bibles' of WAGR prototype (both with similar titles) which I own copies of are Adrian Gunzberg's A History of WAGR Steam Locomotives (sadly long out of print and hence very hard to find), and the more recent and still in publication A History of WAGR Passenger Carriages by Andrew May and Bill Gray. Of course there are many other miscellaneous publications too, mostly published by the ARHS WA Division, but these two books are the two main sources of WAGR prototype info around.

Anyway, I admit I would definitely be interested in these AMRM articles Michael, being the WA gunzel that I am. Thanks for letting us know about this. ;)

Wonderful news indeed as those magazines also cover every other state and territory in Australia eg AMRM P.40/41 October 1987 has the NSW passenger car listings 1926 - 1986. I assume the offer of these resources extends to material from all states and territories, not just WA?

All folks need is the index, part of which is http://www.australianmodelrailways.com/amframe.html

There was another index around on the Internet somewhere else as well.

Thanks you Michael for your very kind offer, as that magazine series is a real goldmine!

I don't just have WA; I got details on Tasmanian Government Railways; South Australian Railways, Commonwealth Railways - Alot Of Rare Queensland Railways Profiles.

All come with photograghs, notes and original drawings.

@Enikidoh, I am considering creating some of the former WAGR passenger stock and a WAGR steam locomotive of my choice - that will be a suprise :p
But, if you could provide me with some more detailed diagrams of the locomotives as the AMRA is very brief. I smell a W class comming on....

Just to be sure, two DIFFERENT magazines were mentioned above by Michael so we need to sort out what one he has on offer. Australian Model Railway Magazine (AMRM) is not AMRA. The glossy one available at newsagents is AMRM http://www.australianmodelrailways.com/amframe.html

On the other hand AMRA is Australia Model Railway Association who also publish a very detailed model railway magazine available for members http://www.amra.asn.au/journal.htm AMRA is the same group who organize the large model rail shows in Sydney on October long weekend and Brisbane on the former May long weekend.

AMRM and AMRA are frequently confused so we need to check which one Michael has?

Nice work on the P class, however, there is already several versions of the P in Trainz in both original Westrail orange and late 90's yellow liveries, and a recent update has given them narrow gauge bogies too:

Orange version by Leon: KUID:30073:1011
Yellow version (reskin) by Colhad: KUID2:50587:1011:1
Orange version (narrow gauge) by Mizzle: KUID:144681:1011
Yellow version (narrow gauge) by Mizzle: KUID:144681:1012

Thats not to dissuade your model though AD60, as the above models are pretty old (1.3/04 era) and are coming up as faulty in CMP, so a new version might be a good thing. :)

As for the W class, I'm pretty sure that the Hotham Valley Tourist Railway's website has the same W class plans which also appear in A History of WAGR Steam Locomotives, complete with technical info, so that's a good place to start (and yes, the Silverton version was almost identical, save for the streamlined boiler cowling similar to the WAGR S class, and air brakes rather than vacuum).

(Is amazed at the sudden interest in WAGR/Westrail prototype :D).

Yes, definitely, I am just creating presently the new CSR Class to break the monotony after working on the SCT, LDP Downer Demos and QRN and the WH Classes, which are the same models with different skins. Perhaps I will create another new locomotive model not yet on the DLS before I resume with the TT etc. Classes.

That would be hauled by 8 AC6000 CW locos approx 7.5 km long with a total weight of about 99 thousand tons
