Hi folks

Pete (AD602000) and Rod (Comtrain) were kind enough to send me a beta version of the 49 class. Pete's done a great job, but I'd rather let the screenies tell the story. :D

Not the ones I drive! Slow to start from cold and quickly lose momentum on hills. And for some reason you feel like you're doing 20 more than you really are.
They are quite fun to drive though! The V8s in them absolutely scream, and the classic wood grain dashboard and 4 spoke steering wheel are just so cool!

If we're going to be comparing firetrucks how about mine, a old old OLD tractor that creates more smoke then the fire and 3 1000 litre water tanks.:p

Its a good system for putting out fires on my grandads farm, use one tank with 1 stand-by whilst the third gets filled up at the dam or tank;)

So who can beat THAT:hehe:

Anyways heres some pictures.

wrong caption under a photo I used it was a double header pic and one had a green smoke box which was identified as 3813 the only pic I found where 13 supposedly had a green smoke box. so I erred on the side of caution and gave it a black smoke box instead

Looking at the original scan ( even over sharpened and at 500 % its definitetly CC something - possibly a B - the car number is 1258 or 9 ( just out of DOF so a little soft) - Unfortuantely this one is about the clearest of the lot reagrding lettering etc, but I can post one of the whole train if you like but most of the slides are fairly soft

Either way its where the car type (FO etc and running number) goes - differnt day / location / car - but 100% crop may be found here : http://www.pbase.com/stanb/image/90372302 (http://www.pbase.com/stanb/image/90372302).jpg

Can I make a suggestion when taking screenshots. Try taking a quick one a few seconds before the one you want. That (sometimes) fixes the smoke (See how it goes level instead of coming out of the funnel).

S301 the reason the smoke is weird ( i think ) is cause the computer can't handle the detail fo the route so its a bit jumpy and when i take a screenshot it kinda freezes for a second then the train jumps 10 metres...thats why the smoke is so weird cause it gets left behind :p

168 for the 'christmas' lights. Plus 4 for the marker lights (if markers are on on both ends)..
So I guess the total corona count is 172...

Been doing some work in Wadalbavale (only done the mill area so far, as I never really wanted to use it "out of the box"):

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/2374/screen181ej5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

4805 shunts the mill sidings. After it collects the loaded wagons, it moves to the container siding, before taking all the wagons and attaching them to the empty grain hoppers, and the guard van.

Except outside metropolitan areas (built-up) where they revert back to right hand side running with block limit boards (often DTC (Direct Train Control)). Or in some places (Toowoomba/North Coast Line) they have (normally) two aspect signalling with full CTC services.

44212 and 4805 combined to haul empty grain out of Wadalbavale Mill siding towards Wattle Creek.

http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/3756/screen190aw3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

4805 shunts the MHG out of the siding before going to pick up the empty grain hoppers. In the meantime, 44212 warms up in the background.

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/1134/screen193zv9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

4805 having returned with the train, the crew move over to the 442 and prepare to couple up for the long slog to Wattle Creek.

http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/7506/screen198mt2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Having crossed 401 with a down passenger train at Lambley, again the 442 is put into the loop at Karrah Bay, this time to cross 4808 with a Wadalbavale Fuel. Meanwhile, 401 has gone to Wadalbavale and has started back towards Wattle Creek, and will cross this fuel train at Halley River.

Redid the fuel siding at Wadalbavale to suit increased traffic, screenshots soon :). I'm mostly practicing my session rules and triggers and whatnot. Have done some examination of the "out of the box" sessions on this layout, so it's a good practice run :).

Very impressive both of you but Raichase I have some concerns about the absence of "runners" or "spacers" on your tank train. Over here fuel tankers could not be assembled immediately behind a loco and often an old box wagon or two of some kind was inserted between them. I guess having the tanks on the loco means you have something to throw your cigarette butts into! :hehe:

Incidentally I'm intrigued by the MHG van which as well as general goods can also carry passengers. Are they for freight trains or passenger trains?

MHG's were for a mixed goods. freight branch line trains not for passenger trains as suck also used on stock movements when stockman or drovers travelled with live stock.

Spacer wagons were not common in NSW either on a mixed or full rake fuel train. An S match track was some times used but just to allow some steamers with link couplers to match to auto coupler tanks cars, that were introduced on most tank cars early in the change from screwlink to auto couplers.

Went down to Wadalbavale today, only to find Zs301 sitting with a short up goods service. Went and asked the driver when he was due to depart, which was about 10 minutes from when I arrived. I then set off, with a friend, to the north of Wadalbavale to take some photos of the train. I waited at the open area just north of the Dairy CoOp, whilst my friend waited at one of the bridges further north (about bridge 3 from Wadalbavale). Was surprised to see what was added to the train after I took the first photo...

Zs301 simmers in the yard prior to departure.

what is the weight per carriage for a load trial up a grade?
Cause on my model layout ( N-Guage) we ran a trial train up a scale 1 in 50 grade pushing 2 flat cars with a load of 180 grams between the both cars and was wandering if thats a large scale load in real life and stuff like that..

Yes its been a while sitting on the back burner .....It would have to be the most difficult model I have ever tried to make ..4 years in the trying 1 year off for being slack and to tell the truth sick of IT! I dont know how many rebuilds it has had ...I was only working on it yesterday new coronas headlights better doors and the new QRwings on the front clearer alpha numbers and dest signs its slowly getting there again but I have a texture reflection problem now !?! when you put both sections togeather as they were exported the same way some how the left side is more shiney than the right? to cure this I think I might have to export the B section backwoods so the side textyres would at least match up .
Hopefully get a start on the bogeys today as my holidays are running out FAST!..............

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply.
The ramp is 1.6m high maybe the construction is a bit heavy I'll have a look at it and trim it down a bit.

I'll work on it later, have to do some "work".

Ah, fair enough.

Having recently been down south of Kiama, the area always reminded me of that same area. That you bridged the river, always intending to continue reminds me of the governments plan to bridge the river and continue... Fortunately, you're not limited by petty bureaucracy :P.

I do look forward to seeing some more screenshots of the revised Wadalbavale area. If I may ask, have you moved into the present day with the bridging (ie, the original stays set in the candy era, with the "new" layout being more in the present day), or is it still set in the Candy era?

I'm working on some of the stations in the original, adding your semaphores to the route, as the light signals seem a little unusual on a branch served by two 400 class railcars. The 620's, I imagine would be a different kettle of fish, of course.

I have to admit that I agree with you fully - I think Daniel is doing a superb job of creating a layout that not only claims to represent an area, does so recognisably to anyone familiar with the area. As to minor details like getting the std the wrong way around well I cant really blame him given that most of the extant collieries, including bloomfield have replaced their exchange yards with balloon loops..

keep up the good work daniel. Cant wait to see the finished line

They were promently used on TFs and 50s that had to work on small turntables (is that right pete, not 100% sure) and for shunting. Mainly for the turntable is the main reason I would guess.

mate all i know is that they were used for shunting, there was a longer bogie version as well. they were used as far out as broken hill, port waratah and in the yards around Sydney. they were used behind anything from a 32 to a 50, but only on shunting duties

According to Preston, the sole tender type B - 4 wheel, 2t coal, Number LO32, was used in and around sydney, and finished its days behind saturated 5202 shunting Clyde - the extinguisher gear was a just in case fitting, tho with only 800 gallons It wouldn't have been a great fire engine :). the single Tender type A (LO33) - an 8 wheeled version had a much more varied life, initially behind a C32 during construction of the line to broken hill, then spent a period behind various 50 classes working out of Pt Waratah (Including on the coal roads - theres a pic of it paired with 5195 at hexham in standrads in steam - 50 class), before ending up working the sydney yards..

If you do go ahead with a 50 class, may I suggest aiming for the saturated variant (with the short smokebox - there were saturates with long smokeboxes - can help with diagrams and pics) - that will compliment John_SB's superheated version very nicely. :)

Cheers Pete - while there are a few saturated 50's in the gallery, I've found a few clearer shots of the normal saturated T ( D50 class) :
5178 contemplates a bleak future after withdrawal at enfield http://www.pbase.com/stanb/image/91646761

5069 shunts at Pt waratah http://www.pbase.com/stanb/image/91647092

here is a superheated one a la John_SB http://www.pbase.com/stanb/image/91589105 (although his is actually the north british built variant with the funnel further back on the smokebox)

and finally by way of comparison, from front to back - a 53, a superheat 50, another 53, and saturated finally 5069 http://www.pbase.com/stanb/image/91647605

In the gallery there's also a few of 5112 which was a unique amongst teh saturates in being fitted with electic lights, leading auto coupler, and a turretted morts dock tender - Incidently speaking of tenders , you should have the correct mesh for the original T class tender - the c30T 8 wheeler's were recycled d50 class tenders so if the mesh is accurate then that will enable a quicker build

I'll chase up some diagrams forward to you too

Thank Tom, I'll look into that :)

Also, I'll echo Toms comments on the gums. Otherwise, landscape is looking good. Shame about the fugly tunnels :P

A annoying combination of Spainish Catenary and UK Gantries added together to look like old style NSW OHWs. I'll get some mroe screenies up on how it's done so it can be explained more in detail.

Since I obtained a brand new PC a few weeks ago, I have been enjoying the much larger layouts from the DLS, one of which is the fantastic NSWGR Pine Ridge by our friend Muliebuck. I just wanted to post a few screenies, now that I have run my graphics card in......:hehe:

Thanks to ALL our Aussie creators for everything they offer us, Merry Christmas to everybody down under.....

mentioned this as a possible alternate tender for the 53 and 55 as well as several other nsw tender locos. These were used for shunting duties, would be fun in that sort of scenario in cab mode as they only carried 500 kilos of coal and about 1800 gallons of water. there wouls be lots of toing an froing to replenish

A special train was organised by ZecRail, to deliver some betas to the beta testers. I was able to photograph it departing Wadalbavale, with Zs301 at the head. The wagons in the consist for delivery were 6 KMQ flats, 5 T insulated vans, and an ALX automobile transporter.
http://www.victrainz.com.au/s301/stuff/images/beta%20train.jpg

The testers will hopefully give all the 'tick' and a delivery service to the DLS will hopefully be requested shortly :)

You are correct - it should be a dependancy - I'm sure I added it to the kuid list...

Does anyone know what NSWGR used to run ammunition in?
Did they have a special carriage for it or would it be in MLV's etc?

Thanks

The continuation of CityRail making their gradual Easy Access upgrades to alot of the station on the network even shows in Trainz. At an unknown station the upgrade is nearing completion. The station master is quite relieved as he'll get his station back.

http://chopstickles.com/misc-images/city-rail-1.jpg

All looked fine as a 4-car S-Set powered up the relief and an R-Set (refurbished) came down the mains.

http://chopstickles.com/misc-images/city-rail-2.jpg

After some more snooping around (hadn't been at the station since it's closure a while back)... something odd was discovered.

http://chopstickles.com/misc-images/city-rail-3.jpg

Dumbfounded the station master couldn't believe how what he saw could even be possible. The 2 most important aspects of the upgrade were no where to be seen, there wasn't even an area for the doorway to the elevators. (whats the other problem?)

Pretty sure the newb who stuffed it up is now on the dole.

Textures need work as do alot of other aspects and the tiling. lol

Hi folks

I've started a small Queensland route, I've got a few shots to show. I've actually made some good progress, it's only about 17-18 boards, A to B, although I may add a couple more as I need a cattle yard for the meatworks trains, chop chop.:p

Anyhow, this is the town of Grandchester, although bears no resemblance to the QLD town, I just used that name. Grandchester is home to an airport which is also utilised by the RAAF.
