Just a quick question?
How far should a route be? Because the one im building is 16 squares long and has 3 stations. The reason im asking is because its set in forest so theres Millions of trees and heaps of grass( Im not joking just look at some of the pictures of it :)) And it makes my computer slow so i don't wan't to do anymore. Also is it alright to end with a portal just after a station?
Thanks

September 27th, 2007, 09:48 PM
It can be as long as you want it to be :)
1 base board, or 100 base boards. It doesn't matter. 16 BBs is a good length though, in fact if it's a branch line 16 BBs can be great fun :)

Time for me to show some shots now. I have quite a few, been holding off showing pics until I had done some decent work.
The route is called Clyde District, named after my favourite locos. It is an Australian based route but not really modelled on one particular area.
In these shots I've used two Westrail locos and woodchip hoppers, then there are some pics without trains.
Now for the pics, AB1535-P2011 haul woodchip hoppers from the first major town on the route known as Drayfield, heading towards Warrabah.

Great shots Anthony.
I may be getting a little picky with my realism here, but I don't think double Candy 44's ever pulled the Aurora, and I only remember them running Nose>Tail once in the very early days, and that was in the Indian Red colour scheme, soon after they were only ever run Tail>Tail. By the time the Candy colours were released it was pulled by 81's most of the time.
I may be wrong, but I would probably never know for sure unless I point this out and get corrected.

Forest_Runner

Jamez,
I found as a kid anything was possible during holiday season in the warmer months. Notably Christmas holidays when in those days the railways obliged with extra passenger services and were up to the hilt with grain season and the like. During the early 80's we had some 600's and 830's on loan from the ANR and Victorian locos would occasionally interlope.....pretty much proving shortages at times.
Referring to your particular example....it was December 1985. Not 2, but 3 44 classes thundered through Picton on The Aurora. The first 2 were in Candy livery with the third in "Grey Ghost." I can't recall the exact nose/tail marshalling however. Once around Picton hill and heading in the opposite direction above Picton itself, the 3 Alcos sounded awesome.
Out of interest, we knew full well the Spirit of Progress would be hot on it's tail, so we waited. The Spirit had a VR X class and a candy 421 on it. My first sighting of an X class and my only lifetime sighting of a 421 in Candy, which is why I recall this evening so vividly.
I miss those days :(
Apologies for off-topic too.
Cheers,
Simon.

just tried that Zec, it certainly gets rid of that pesky little flat surface on the corners if you chamfer and you are right, it does look softer and a more believable curve and its easy once you make one, just save it as a bit and resize as appropriate.

Glad it helped Peter.
And it most certainly does make a great starting point. My entire K class firebox was made from bits of that, copies to the correct spots then adjusted. Takes a fair bit of time, but it makes a nice even effect and can in a way keep the poly count fairly clean. And now back to my model railway :)

Hey guys,
i've started making a short route for fun, instead of playing solitaire- its melbourne based- a terminus on the suburban lines- will be using the Connex x'traps as there is no other suburban model :'(
Just wondering what the best overhead to use would be? to match up with the panto and also to look prototypical- ALSO track texture- ive used a modern concrete one but looks to light instead of our darker grey colour in real life...
any pointers would be great, ps im running Trainz2006..
Oh and if anyone would like to contribute some Metlink/ connex signs ill give u a free copy of the route- ill make atleast 3-4 stations, based loosely on a real line, have just one at the moment, screenshots will come when it looks more real lol....
but cantenary and track texture/ colour tips would be great!

Yeah, that track is by me. Well, jerker and myself anyway. I still have to make a SG version, plus some others that I wish to include.
As for catenary. I don't know of any that looks similar to Victorian ones that match the X'Trap. I'm pretty sure the X'Trap has it's pantos set too high. However, I have used a set that seems very similar to Vic's and is about the correct hight. It just won't match up with the X'Trap. And there is a Comeng on the DLS, albeit only the motor car.

Now if only someone would make some sounds for these, that would be heaven. Nice low pitched whine as you accelerate. I would also like to see the experimental double deck Tulloch power cars done, that would be a treat.

Having chased and photographed many trains on this route over the years (unfortunaetly not Ts or 400s) and I must say you have done a fantasic job in capturing the feel of the countryside in that area although to me it suggest more Gladstone to Caltowie than Crystal Brook to Huddlestone.
For the pedantic out there, if its the spot I'm thinking of then the screenshot of the half horseshoe is technically incorrect as the old NG took a slightly different route here.
But hey its Trainz and if it looks and feels good do it!
Congratulations to all those who created the various assets to allow 3830 put these masterpieces together.

They were certainly more commonly lined in orange, however the orange rarely lasted long before blending in with the rest of the dirt! It was uncommon for the lining to still be bright more than a few days after painting.

Looks like the K class is coming along nicely Peter. A minor nit tho - the firebox should taper in to fall between the frames as per the D53 and D50 class. That would allow more room for that somewhat undernourished air reservoir
Also while the coned boiler is nice , any chance of a standard parallel boilered version too - as with the D53, the taper boilers were replaced with standard (50 class superheated) boilers from the mid 1930's.
another simple variation is the oil burner conversion , but I think they may have been fitted with wampu tenders

If this does not work try backing up the local folder to another part of your PC then delete the local folder out of the TRS2006 folder remove the assets tdx file and then run CMP and see if it will update.
I tried to do this to fix a Fatal error then weh n iwen't back to the folder there was nothing in the local folder.:'( :'( :'(

hang on, which folder did you copy? All your downloads in trs? and then you put it somewhere else(the copy) and then you went back to your original folder.
Is there anything in the copy of the folder? If so copy it back to where the original was.
People should invest in a dvd rw disc and occasionally back up there custom content and downloads onto it. Do you want me to resend anything Anthony?
How do you know the fatal error causing item wasn't in that folder anyway?

Re; 3801 release
I havent heard much from the beta testers as yet, although some were having some loading issues, which I think was because of my original 3801 being on their PC's.
When I get some good feedback I will release it then probably as a victrainz release on the dls. I have heard that this version works in 06. since the beta I have added shadow boxes under the loco and tender, tried animated coal which wouldn't work so for now it has a static mesh for coal until I can get that sorted out, so hopefully soon for a release within a fortnight maybe

Just a quick question?
How many squares would "113.1" klms be?
Is it huge?
Depending on the scale.
Using "real scale" on a new map, draw a ruler from one end of the baseboard to the other, and check how long it is. Haven't had any time for Trainz for months and months, so I don't remember, but it's a starting point.
I always use a ruler, even on make-believe layouts, I aim for 5-10km beteween stations/junctions/sidings etc, to keep things interesting for the user, yet also not have everything within sight of everything else.
Cheers!

Dear All, I downloaded the VR S Class Blue steam loco this weekend, a beautiful model as you can see by the screenies, however, I am puzzled as there are white stripes on the loco and tender where I remember reading the VR logo should go, but, there is no attachment on the download for any nameplates or logos or anything like that, do you know if this is something separate on a 3rd party site, or have I not looked closely enough on the DLS please ??
Thankz in anticipation someone can give me some assistance.

If I am correct, They are there until you type in a number of the locomotive e.g. S301, S302, then the long board on the valance will change with the locomotives name such as Sir Mathew Flinders etc. The small white board on the tender is where the number is.

Hi Dreddman,
With all this inter-acting, you'll need to be members of actor's equity.
A question:-
Having seen raining cats (smoke effect), would it be possible to have a similar effect, using the steam effect?.
And in TRS2004, is it possible to turn smoke on/off whilst in-game??.
I'm guessing steam cannot be controlled in this way?.
With a modified steam effect, would it be possible to have metallic parts (nuts/bolts, broken bits etc), mixed in with the steam?.
Perhaps a 'steam effect' attached somewhere underneath the main bogies, spitting out the odd piece of broken machinery??.
:hehe:

Hi all,
Just a couple of screenies of a couple of locos I’ve been working on. The first is LVRF's 4458. Its basically a paint shed reskin of the standard Auran 930 class model, but i've made a few modifications to make it more like a 44 class rather than a 930 class, including;
- moving up the positions of the front number boxes.
- changing the style of marker lights (front and rear)
- putting the old diaphragm holders on both ends.
Only thing I couldn’t fix up was the positioning of the staff exchanger. (I think that the staff exchangers on the 44 class are on the opposite of the 930's, can anyone help me on this?).
Any comments or suggestions, other feedback etc?
Cheers,

Have been having troubles with all the steam loco's that I have downloaded, the NSW 59 class, QR Beyer Garrat, SAR 400 Class Garrat and most of Subpar productions steam loco's have been having the same troubles......
when I get into driver with them, the boiler pressure is around 50 Psi, which all good enginemen know that it's impossible to opearate a steam loco on that amount, It also seems that the saftey valves are set at 50 Psi as well........
I have trs04 so all of you know.......

Can you send me your new e-mail address again please, the one I have apparently isn't working as I get delivery failure notifications.

S302 leads the Melbourne Express through Wattle Creek.

A few weeks later, S302 is found sitting in Wadalbavale yard with a very short pass. This occurred after the regular loco failed, with S302 being the only loco available...

Well since the W cars had 4 wheel bogie's my guess is the E cars.
Also considering it is a 1st + 2nd class car it has to be an ABE???
Now you just need a BCE to go with it:D
