As I've said before, I'm currently working on a heap of broad gauge content in conjunction with a couple of other Australian creators. The best I can offer, track wise, is my 'chunky mesh' track at this stage. Feel free to reskin this to match other tracks (Remember to get permission to use the other person's textures). I will be re-releasing an old set of matching broad gauge, standard gauge, and dual gauge tracks made by a user by the name of 'ds1'.
There are also the VR J class, R class, N class, Y class, and Z class steamers on the DLS (The Z class does come in broad gauge).

I studied the dune ecosystem in highschool, and the scrubby grass is 'spinifex' but the distance away from the railway means I'll likely impair performance but putting down thousands of grass objects. I'll likely put down some scrubby trees and bushes for effect, and leave it at that.

You would be surprised just how much fun Aussie trains can be on smallish layouts :)
I would suggest that you put 1-2 gums in random spots :)
If you take a look at the built-in 'Wadalbavale' layout in TRS, that should give you a good idea of what the majority of Eastern Australia looks like (Well, New South Wales and parts of Vic :) ).

Hi Raichase,
There's various people, change shacks, boat-houses, volleyball courts (sand & grass?), lighthouses, sand textures & even a 'surf' texture.
And don't forget the sunken ships & wrecks. One's a large ship -rocks & seagulls circling. Oh & also pool-side table-chairs & umbrellas.
Just try searches for 'water/beach/pool/ocean/river/boat/ship/wreck', etc
And don't limit your searches to just the item's name. Try description searches too.

Hmm.
Well, in answer to 1. - NSWGR doesn't exist anymore. Cityrail/Countrylink are all thats left that is government owned and operated, and yes, they do run on this line, which is a *fictional* line somewhere on the south coast.
As for 2. LVR at Cowra and LVRF (now Independant Railways of Australia or IRA for short) are two seperate organisations. LVRF did lease some locos from LVR (IIRC), but they are otherwise not related. LVRF/IRA is based in Minto in Sydney, and run trip trains between Minto container siding and Botany/Cooks river, as well as northern cotton trains and southern super phosphate fertilliser trains.
They are known as the dodgy bros railway operators, was out trackside yesterday and they managed to break one of their 44 class locos (pushed the old girl too hard up the hill out of Cooks River and she spat the dummy, thank god they'd swapped the 47 for a Helga at the back to help push the train out), and another one of their trains managed to split the points at Cooks River, blocking the yards access to/from the mainline...
I'll e-mail you a link to some photos when I've uploaded them, but here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/raichase/sets/72157601784037419/) are some from Cooks River. Apologies for the zoom, but my mate and I were standing outside the fence - if we had gone any further we would have been on private property, and would likely have been escorted out again. Say what?
Anyway, I've finished the 4-baseboard (2-wide, so as to give plenty of ocean to see) section on the coast. Perhaps it'll be more visually appealing with a coalie easing down the grade.
I've still got to do the 8-10 baseboards between Linxton and Gooraburra (the town I showed last, with the coal mine and the pub), and then it's onward to... well, I don't have a name for the next town, but it won't be too close to the sea. If we had some... blast, what are the wagon codes... NPZH's and RHGF's (and perhaps the occasional RHIF (http://www.flickr.com/photos/raichase/1292101261/) wagons if we run out of modern rolling stock), could run a stone train from a quarry. As it is, it'll probably end up having a wheat silo or another container siding or something. Or perhaps nothing but an abandoned yard and some rusting infrastucture...
Shut up Raichase, post some screenies.

Been doing some timetabling for the completed part of the route, as the first session made will be the morning Endeavour service towards Sydney (as I'm not building the line to anywhere real, I'd be hard to get into Sydney, so you're driving to where you'll change crews).
If you're running to the posted speeds, and leaving stations at the correct times, it takes about 25 minutes to run to Linxton Loop from Nandurra.
Below are a couple of shots I got of the Endeavour, waiting to depart Gooraburra (I was a tad early):
http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/5198/screen163ax5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
...and arriving at Linxton Loop, where some track gangers are checking the signals there. As a precautionary measure, there is a temporary speed restriction in place, just to be sure you don't hurt anyone.

Your right Tom, I was being a bit naughty with my comments, the unstremalined version was named a 39 in trainz class so that there was a diffrence between the two locomotives, I being one of the lucky few to be in the loop so to speak have both locomotives. I was asked to a few new skins for the 38, including the grey nurse, black with red linining and even candy for the streamline version.

Marl hasn't been seen for ages, and I'm pretty sure he lost the gmax file when his computer crashed. The 39 is wrong in a few different areas of the model. I do hope we do get it on the DLS or somewhere but right now I don't think that will be happening.:)

No doubt SOMEONE will make another C38....Its just a matter of waiting:eek:
Lets not forget AD602000's C38 also.
Tom
EDIT:
As a colourful Super-Freighter heads for Melbourne an Xplorer set prepares to follow it towards Kinambra.
The Tilt Train also waits for the Super Freighter to clear the cross-over point so it can continue its Journey to Sydney.
In the midst of all this action two empty coalies wait patiently for a full coalie to pass.*
The loops are being extended throughout to reduce this bottle-neck.

Kinambra will no longer be a termini but rather a humble little town in-which the mainline passes.

Hell, if we run out of Aussie stuff, there is always the Helgas, and no doubt all the other immigrants we'll be getting in from other railways around the world. Adds some variety to our boxy locomotive collection :D
Davido, loving the 620's in the Candy, the classiest of schemes (we've long been needing a branchline passenger unit to run in that era, as we've got the SFS cars for mainline trains :D
Good to see some new scenery in the recent slew of shots too, I notice Nat has been slaving away in the background too?

Took another timetabling-test-run along my line with the Endeavour Set - found a couple of boo-boos, the coal train which is supposed to be crossed by the passenger train managed to SPAD and foul the mainline, which left me stopped at a red signal at Fettlers Creek wondering what was going down...

Crossing 8202/8160 (resident locos of this line, it seems) with a coalie. After the passenger train enters the station, the line clears for them to cross over into the branch.

Coal wagons start moving, clearing the line ahead, as passengers jump on.

Some progress shots of my up and coming route. Still undecided as to what to title it as. I am leaning towards a Queensland based theme as I have been using QR stock mainly to drive around on it.
I have only completed roughly 8 boards, not sure when I will stop but I don't think it'll be massive. I'll still make sure you can get a decent drive out of it.
Firstly I wanna thank Dreddy for sending me a beta 2000 class Silver Bullet. A three car unit was used for testing purposes.
I showed three pics earlier in this thread, these pics are of the rural areas just out of town. There are a couple of houses, cattle properties and bushland in these areas.

Sorry to be a bit of a bother, but if you want to play with RBR for yourself that's fine. But the Razorback Railway belongs to us (ie the RBR Group), is a registered business, copyright and has a couple of Trade Marks pending.
Please be aware that we will probably be a bit ansty with you if you re-publish our work as your own (even with attributation)

The basics of copyright law (in relation to Trainz) is you can't modify or use parts of another person's creation in any way without the creator's permission unless you intend only to use that creation on your own computer for your own personal private use (so you can't demonstrate a modified creation to another person).
I am happy to be corrected but I do believe that any screenshot taken of a modified asset and displayed in public (i.e. beyond your own personal use) is also in breach of copyright.
This applies whether the original creator has a 'license' tag in his config or not - many people wrongly assume that to have copyright law apply to a "thing" you must have a license, a "c" or a copyright clause. This is untrue and any original 'creation', be it a photo, painting, drawing, writing etc etc, made by any person, is covered under copyright law.
I'll add a link to the Australian Copyright Law site, but I'll copy some relevant paragraphs here (wonder if that breaches copyright??!!)
Copyright is a type of property that is founded on a person's creative skill and labour. It is designed to prevent the unauthorised use by others of a work, that is, the original form in which an idea or information has been expressed by the creator.
The Copyright Act protects original literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works. In order for copyright to subsist in a work it must be made by a resident or citizen of Australia, or made or first published in Australia, or has a specified connection with a country which is a member of a relevant international copyright treaty. (See section 14 for more information about the protection of overseas works in Australia).
Works are only protected by copyright law if they are 'original' works. A copyright work will be considered original if it is the product of the creator's own intellectual effort and has not been copied from another person's work. However an original work could be a compilation of other works, eg in an original anthology or selection, where the permission of the copyright owners of those individual works compiled would be needed.
The Copyright Act also protects sound recordings, films (which include pre-recorded television programs and videos), radio and television broadcasts and published editions of works. These categories of copyright material are collectively referred to as 'subject-matter other than works'.
And finally (and the bit that many don't realise...)
The Copyright Act does not require the completion of formalities (such as publication, registration or the payment of fees) in order to obtain protection in Australia, or any other country which is also a party to an international copyright treaty. This is unlike the position with patents, trade marks, designs and plant breeder's rights where registration is a precondition to protection. Copyright protection is granted automatically from the time an original work is created.
Here's the link:
http://www.ag.gov.au/copyright
It's actually an interesting and informative read, and it's also reassuring to know where you stand in relation to your content both in and out of Trainz (I'm a landscape photographer and was concerned for a while about how copyright protected my images).
Hope that helps without confusing the matter further.

Problem with them doing that is the model would become inaccurate - has to be covered in an inch thick layer of grime and dirt before it's a true PacNat NR.
:hehe:
Actually, I was wondering the same thing - I'd be interested to see a version with the logos removed too? They just don't look the same without their NRC diamonds :(.

If someone wants to post screenshot of a locally modifiied RBR layout that's no problem to us, only distribution of a modified layout would get the dandruff shedding.
FWIW if someone would like to expend the effort .. then come over to RBR apply as a developer (easy) submit a plan for upgrade (easy) then if approved make the route better (not easy).
We are always after people to help and join the crew, it is the only way to have it smoochied with Herbie and Linda's seal of righteousness.

Have had a whole heap of error reports coming from trainz last month, I un-installed it, went back to re-install it and it wouldn't let me, have asked evereyone about it, even Auran (they still won't reply to my E-mails).
I think that it was for the best anyway, when trainz was working I had 2 Beyer Garrats to finish in TT scale made from cardboard and household materials, then I only had the 1st units which was meerly the tank on frames with driver wheels, no Rods, no Cylinders, no headlight, no buffers, no cowcatchers and no front or trailing bogeys.
Now I have allmost finished both apart from the paint...........
I think that I have spent over 2 1/2 years on this project, and the past month has been the most well spent month of my life, so far.
It has been like making 2 full size beyer garrats, what I'd like to see is one in 5'' gauge. My theory is that ANY locomotive can be made in 5'' (I've even seen a Triplex). Any locomotive, apart from a QR Beyer Garrat, I'ts been so hard just to make 2 of them out of cardboard in TT scale, I,ve learnt that they're so complex, which I think makes it so different form the other Beyer Garrats. I even thought 3 years ago that it was going to take me up to 10 years to make them, It makes me want to try to make one in 5'' now...........

Well there is no time like the present, If you want to reskin/retexture something, here is an offer of a mesh for you to practice on to develop those skills and maybe have a look at how things are made so there is no mystery to it. there is no mesh building involved, all you would be doing is retexturing something which is reskinning but getting to map the texture as well. You need a 500 Class (CT or HCT) behind the 400 Class - that big "hump" on the wagon is the air conditioner unit and without a power generator (on the 100 Class) to run it the passengers are gonna get mighty hot and stuffy! ;)

IMHO the textures are a bit blocky and pixellated. To get realistic weathering is a tricky process. You might want to try building it up in layers and using motion blur for streaks going downwards and gaussian blur to generally smooth things out. There are some threads about weathering techniques somewhere on these forums I think.

Patience is a virtue, the 60 class is going to get a major revisit by me. with more realistic weathering and probably a semi major rebuild, so I would not be agreeable to the release of the reskin sorry.

Branchline 2C I believe.
Very popular, and rated by most as one of, if not the most realistic layouts every.
IIRC, a few people (including myself) have taken it upon themselves to update it. Not sure if Nat was allowing them to release their own versions though? :o

Just a quick question. Does this look right( Note that it will be covered by trees). It happened due the river being there stuffing up it cause the bank dosen't go down from the river.:hehe:

It's still a while away yet. It's actually a 'D' van (No shunters steps, and numbers/markings with chain couplers). It's really a long way from being finished. It's only got 3-4 very basic textures on it. However, it shouldn't be too much work to finish. I'll see where I got up to, and see what happens after I finish the QB well wagon :)

Right how? It looks good, though yes, it does need trees.

Well to me it looks weird comeing up hill then going down. I Realise that with trees it won't be as noticable but i was haveing a "rivet counter"mood:o
S301
September 23rd, 2007, 02:27 AM
0099, it can (And probably has happened). Could have been a flood of some kind. I notice that you have the hill continuing down the other side. Maybe try lowering the river into the hill side by 1-2m without going down the hill. This will stick a levee bank on the opposite side, which would in reality prevent the river from flowing down the hill side. Or something like that anyway.
