JAMEZ001, forgot to give you the KUID of those hoppers. All the hopper models are by ad602000, he's done three, an SRA (candy) one, a Freightcorp one and the Blue Circle one.

Even though most of them are all covered in crap and graffiti now, I like to think the Blue circle ones are still valid for use on Pac Nat trains!

Blue Circle:

Are you commanding an AI train to load or driving there yourself?

Driving it myself. Actually, the 'yard' is in a siding. I shunted some wagons into it, unhooked th loco, then shunted the other half of the consist into another siding. Then I hooked the loco up with the consist in the 'yard' siding and left it there for 30mins, but nothing happened.

So I'm confused as to how it is supposed to work?

What settings do you recommend for a prototypical 'Produce and Consume' CWS industry?

I understand what Rate and Initial is on the Produce side, but I don't understand how you can have an Initial Consumption? Basic math tells me that setting that would give you a negative number, which is impossible when zero is the lowest possible entry.

I don't think so, usually the point connecting rods run parallel with the rails, and cross them at 90 degrees. I've never seen them any other way.

R711 is now painted in 'Steamrail' colours, 3801 is painted green with waratah (Last I saw), and atleast two NR class locos are in IP colours. The track is dual gauge (R711 is on a BG pass platform track, 3801 on a DG mainline, and NR97 in a DG container siding).

Scrapped all of the track and landscape from the town of Nandurra on, (kept the town, grain siding, container yard etc), as the grades were just too steep to be prototypical. This new route has far more prototypical grades.

The old route, the two 81's really struggled to lift 15 cement hoppers up the grade. The new one, the only train to still fail to stop at the signal at the bottom of the hill are the cement trains, but thats only if they don't heed the "distant" and "landmark" signals preceeding it, calling for them to lower their damned speed! The AI managed to correctly stop a loaded container trip train, and an empty grain train. Stopping the Endeavour set in time was a no brainer, to say the least.

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/4810/screen122ca1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Apart from the township itself, I've only textured two boards out into the "beyond", and it includes a small sheep farm.

But yes, so far the prototypical grades have made the layout more visually appealing, as well as easier to work with AI trains on.

As to your model plane, should have taken a camera, and sat on the main line instead :P. Would have involved less pain, and more results!

I wouldn't mind getting up to Fassifern to take some photos nowadays.

Incidentally, the pollies are running a special "goodbye and good riddance" run for the 620's in the near future, using a 4-car set to Maitland and back. I only hope that it's not on a work day, as I would love to get out there to photograph that!

Some Austrailian Trains look German, some American, Some English, stc. Why is that?

Well, the NSW Railways were based on the British model (which was pretty silly, given the terrain in NSW compared to Britan), and as a result, used a few British locos/designs. As the railways smartened up, they started using American designed locos, as they could better cope with the terrain.

Now days, the trains just go to the highest bidder, in the case of some, thats Bombadier (sp?) which is European (?), which might explain that.

Spiffy,

When our railways were being pioneered, there was a strong feeling of 'state pride'. Each of our separate states seemed to think that they had the best way of doing things, so they all had very different ideals regarding railway engineering.
Nearly every state used a different track gauge, so from the start locos had to be very different designs.
Some followed British practices, some followed America, and some followed Europe.
Also compounding the matter was our diverse landscape, with many states having to snake railways through mountains, and others having mostly flat plains. This in itself called for some very specific engineering work.
It was in effect a simple show of who was best, in proud colonial rivalry.

At least we got some pretty neat designs out of it!

@ Grasshopper
If you're comparing them to the 620-720's that have just been retired from service they are slightly different.
Apart from the paint job they were fitted with different windscreens, had a cover over the front vent above the driver, holding tanks for the dunny's and ditch lights. Could that be it?

alco_power, those look amazing mate!

As to Davido/Natvander, I am (and I'm not sucking up or anything here) honestly amazed that you do not have a functioning website with payware. I hope nobody kills me for this, because I'm not normally a fan of payware, but the sheer detail and quality of the models, and the time spent making them, makes me wonder why you do it all for free?

Perhaps you guys run on props?

At any rate, introduction of donatonware, as Pikkabird has (now that he's moved on to TTD "modelling" (pixel pushing), as seen on his website) might be an idea.

Again, not sucking up, just amused that you guys do it for free :D

I honestly do look forward to the 620 model though, more than the others, simply because I like building branch lines :P. I keep having problems with the ones on the DLS too...

Thanks for keeping the screenies coming, I always look forward to seeing everyones screenies, not just CWS, as it motivates me to plug on more than comments about my screenies ever could.

I've done some more work in the yard. Now the AI drivers will drive to the flour mill, unload their train, run around their consist, and couple back up to the other end. Thats where the problem begins...

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/5775/screen133gu9.jpg

The driver decided, instead of driving FORWARDs to the "fettlers ck up" trackmark, it would reverse at 50km/h through the buffers.

:|

Testing continues, I'm going to trial using a trackmark at the mainline end of the siding, might help with the routefinding. The other option is doing it all manually - ie "drive to flour mill" "unload" "drive to trackmark x" "uncouple from" "drive to trackmark y" "drive to trackmark z via trackmark a" "couple to" "drive to fettlers ck up"

Still, I WILL get it AI compliant. I would love to make the players passenger train wait while a grain train enters the siding, and shunts, and departs (obviously the player will wait until the line clears the first time before departing, they won't have to wait for the train to unload and shunt)

I've also finished another couple of baseboards to the "town" of Fettlers Creek, which is a bridge where there is a corner store and 2 houses :D. No station, obviously, but some nice scenery! No screenies yet, as the track ends at the bridge, so it would look a little funny.

If anyone has any ideas on how to help with my AI problem (short of sacking Adair), I'd be happy to hear them :D

I rode on the 620/720s a lot as a kid, always loved them. Rode on the other classes a lot too, there was also the 600/700, 660/760 and the 900 class. I also rode on CPH Tinhares, another great railcar.

I hope some of the 620s are preserved, I think a few should be repainted into all the liveries they wore, Candy, Indian Red/Reverse, Cityrail.

Well, the candy colour scheme died out early 90's if I'm not mistaken, as did the SRA coal hoppers. Nearly everything became Freight Corp blue. And as far as I know, other that the odd occasion of a Special train, 82's are on nothing other than coal trains. As for the grain hoppers, I'm pretty sure they're far too recent to run beside any SRA Candy loco's.

But at least you're trying new things. I don't dare run anything else, A) because I don't like anything else, B) Im scared I'll get it wrong. :o

I have released a broad gauge model of 'polly' (0-6-0 tank loco, now at Science Works in Spotswood), plus some 'chunky mesh' track in broad gauge.

All of the VR content by 'Billegulla' is correctly scaled to BG, just gauge converted to run on the SG track in TRS. I have been working on a gauge convertible (via scripting) model of R711 (In blue and gold, as it is now with steamrail), but I'm still awaiting a steam effect and permission from Steamrail to release it with the headboard. I also have some rolling stock, and some more locos. Oh, and some better track, which when released hopefully Bill will release a broad gauge version of his locos and rolling stock :)

Wait, how do you define rushed? I went through that area for the first time a couple of weeks ago (well the second time, but the first time was at night, so it doesn't count) on a train, and that was a pretty accurate representation.

Obviously the scenery, textures and stuff are not done, but the landscape, track layout and whatnot is pretty close. Hell, if you've got some spare OHW, slap down an L-set, and it's a pretty good representation.

Awesome :D.

(Also, can't miss giving yet more kudos to flathog for his nice screenies. A classic route (Branchline 2c, originally by Natvander for those of you playing at home), plus modern track and nice gum trees is a winning combination!)

I have also released a broad gauge, and a standard gauge, Z class (Z512, Polly). Billegulla's VR locos and 'E' cars are made for BG, just with SG wheel sets. Ad602000's locos are very close to being able to be gauge converted, and I have released a set of bogies for his 4 wheel wagons that are BG (and SG).

I did a quick look through my old screen shot folders today, it's amazing what you can find!

So, here's a few fairly random shots, all quite old!

http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/4396/screen927fh5.jpg

Here is a VERY VERY old shot of Hexham, before I replaced the rails with more appropriate ones, and added/replaced textures. I am extremely glad the route has progressed a lot since!
I'll have to post some more recent shots soon, as it has been blessed with quite a transformation since this!!

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/8788/screen069yd4.jpg

Another old one, although I don't think many people on the Trainz forum would have seen this. There's been a lot of people asking me about the DD, so I may as well tease you all here! Somewhat out of date, but hell, it was convenient!

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/7171/screen265gm5.jpg

And finally, a quick VR shot. I don't believe I've posted any VR shots, which is quite surprising, considering the amazing locos and stock we have now got!

Testing to have two trains within one sector of single track, in this case a trip train lead by C508 and 852 by Silverton. If anyone knows if that C Class model is avaliable in Silverton livery, please give us a heads up, I haven't been able to find it.

This idea of people stopping a project because someone else is making it is STUPID, if someone does that it seems to me someone feels in-secure about the quality of their work and that their work won't be liked as much as the other persons...

Why In heavens name would my rerelease of Rob's content stop anyone from releasing their version?

So now I find out after 6 month's (At Last) the reason for all the "hoo har" back in March of this year.

Why the heck didn't somebody think just too PM or Email me when it was obvious that I would eventually get up too Rob's "C" Class's?

Craig,

Just a means to avoid the need to turn locos - example, when the train arrives at a destination and runs around it's train (or returns with an entirely different train), the locos can go as is. Pretty handy in the absence of turning facilities.

* Please note, I have no intention of tackling the creation of the mine itself on my map (lack of suitable models, plus I don't feel like digging a giant open pit mine), so the coal conveyor simply goes over a hill and off into the distance. This shouldn't be a problem, as there is plenty of things in the foreground to attract attention, such as the crew change at the loader, the various coal mine workers etc.

The train consist is based on this one (as seen from Beresfield Station on the 3rd of May):

regarding the EMU its in testing mode now several items have been mentioned to the creator who is in the process of addressing the issues.

regarding my route

several things have slowed down progress on the route. i have not been well the past few days, some of the sections i have to work on i have no detailed pictures regarding the location and one thing i have not enjoyed has been in amongst everything else i have been trying to pack up and shift house never fun especially when its been raining heavily for a week.

also i have only strung a small section of catenary just for testing purposes the entire line is set late sixties early seventies.

http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/5426/screen149xl3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

I know it's an area you've all seen before, but it shows that I've gotten further than last time - this time after running around it's train, it didn't feel the need to shunt it into the dirt. At least this time, it leaves towards the mainline.

Now, some questions about my flour siding.

Seems the maximum length my siding can handle (under AI control) is 12 wagons and two locomotives. Is that enough (both from a realism and a players point of view)? I don't feel like extending the siding any more (terrain prohibits it), but if people think it needs to be done, it can be done.

(I've since fixed the problem where it takes a wagon with it when it runs around, that was an easy solve).

Also, what sort of frequency should we have? Currently, I'm looking at one a day, plus a container train once a day, and perhaps a cement train once a day (or once a week) going to the cement works (portal) beyond the yard. Currently I'm looking at the Endeavours to run on the hour.

The coal loop is about 10-15 minutes away, and I was going to run 2 coalies a day through it.

Any comments?

Well, after seeing the two SSR GM's up close (from the roadside, and again from an overhead bridge), the sheer grunt those old buggers can produce is worth of respect. You see modern locos like NRs and 82's failing all the time, but the 44's, the 48's, the GM's etc... all in the hands of private ownership, they don't fail, even though their previous government owners long ago gave up on them...

Proud to announce that I've now done all the line between the towns of Namburra and Gooraburra, which is just over 10km as the crow flies (more like 12-13 track km's)

The coal loader I showed earlier branches off from the mainline at Gooraburra, but at that stage, I hadn't done the town itself, or any of the line between Fettlers Ck and Gooraburra.

Now I have some shots of 8122 and 8114 leading a cement train towards Nandurra, through Gooraburra Station. I couldn't be bothered waiting for the up Endeavour service to clear the mainline, otherwise I would have gotten some shots of the line between Gooraburra and Fettlers Ck.

Entering the town from the Sydney-end.

Gunzels on the platform.

http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/230/screen154im2.jpg

The line to the right leads off towards the coal loader (about 500m to 1km away). The line to the left is the mainline towards Nandurra. Currently, the section is being used by an Endeavour.

http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/9146/screen155ix7.jpg

Bridge over the river.

Done some more testing with the aforementioned grain train, and it now works smoothly. The player will bring the Endeavour to the platform, and have a couple of minutes to kill before being allowed to depart, as the line ahead is blocked by the down grain train. Fortunatly, it's fun to watch :)

Oh, that is coming soon :)
I plan to have 3 versions. Clean (Eg. fairly new), lightly weathered (similar to what is seen, but might have a little more done to it), and weathered (bit more dirt, probably some oil stains, that sort of thing :) ).

The K class represents the first 10 locos, as built (Albeit with electric lighting and dual couplers). I will be putting numbers 100-109 (Hopefully) on it, either via 'alpha numbers' or via sub meshes (Will require manual replacement). Both would be via scripting :)

Out in their garden, tending their Tulips? No idea! ;)

But I hope I'm not alone in thinking that a set of NSW wires are the single most important thing that our NSW routes need.

Working on all the other items of rolling stock we're lusting after :P

I believe Wylie (http://www.redfernworkshopz.blogspot.com/) had plans to work on some as well as the Tangara and the 85/86 class, but he's been missing a while. Last seen in Japan.
