do you know of any CityRail rolling stock

I have made city rail stuff, double deckers up to and not including the tangara, oscar or V sets I am currently making bogies for them, they should also be able to retrofit under the earlier tulloch cars available on the DLS, not living in sydney it makes it hard to find out what sort of bogies are under the older double decker controls and trailers, as I have two plans one without airbag suspension bogies and one with. The one without is a power bogie, but I cant find pictures that show if the power cars had airbag and non airbag or just non airbag. Someone disd tell me that the older ones were all airbag so perhaps there are airbag power bogies in existance. Any information would be gratefully received.

Peter,

You probably already know this, but those models look really good! As far as the K and C Sets, they are semi-perma coupled as two car sets with a driver motor and a trailer car, and the trailer car has the pantograph at the number 1 end. For reference sake, the driver sits at the no2 end of the control motor car, so that places the pantograph on the trailer car, immediately behind the power car.

I dunno if that helps you at all, but they look great!

ad602000
October 23rd, 2009, 05:35 PM
probably not as I used the drawings on the city rail site as a reference and it had the pant on the trailer but no mention of a drivers cab and only mentioned as a three car set. However, I have found a drawing of the trailer with the drivers cab and pant so that will no doubt come in the future. I have also found a drawing of the tulloch power car so thats coming as well. Be warned these do not have opening and closing doors.

Peter - the C/K Sets run about as 4-car sets, made up of two of the pairs I mentioned in my post above. There is one 2-car C Set (C5) that lost the other two cars to fire a couple of years ago. This runs around as C-T-C-T-T-C where C is a Control Motor and T is a trailer car.

There are four 2-car K-Sets in operation in the Newcastle suburban area, where the trailer car also has a cab, to reduce the need for a four car set. In this case the trailer car is reclassified as "D" (Driver Control Trailer). As the cab is at the no2 end, it is not under the pantograph, rather it is at the opposite end of the car.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/raichase/2447858397/in/set-72157600267505570/

The car in the foreground is the Driver Trailer (note the lack of a destination board), and features the pantograph, but no motors. The second car is the Control Motor, which has all the motors (and a desto). This is one of the four Newcastle based 2-car K-Sets.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/raichase/3665992059/in/set-72157600267505570/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/raichase/3666765068/in/set-72157600267505570/

In both of these shots, I am standing at the no2 end of the trailer car, looking towards the front of the train. The area where the cab would be on the 2-car K-Set is a passenger area (longer than at the no1 end of the trailer/motor cars). Then you have the pantograph at the no1 end of the car, with a shorter vestibule area. Then you have the motor car, with the cab at the extreme far away end of the image.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3209/2703637492_c2e4a6e3e1_b.jpg

(I do hope that link works)

That's a C-Set.

Sadly, I've not got many good photos of suburban trains, as normally when I see them I am working, so I don't bother taking photos of them when I'm not working, but they are all here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/raichase/collections/72157611470558051/

Now, if Davido plans on making a "Freight Australia" skin for his NTAFs, that I can be of service with, as I took about a thousand photos of the various types of NTAF wagons on a recent jaunt to Canberra!

Been busy with updating older uploads to make them compatible with the later versions of Trainz 06 and 09 (112 items) so they don't show error messages.

that is an absolutely lovely bridge

I was thinking that myself - we're spoilt here, we get to see plenty of screenshots of Davidos up and coming content, so I guess we're used to it in a way (although the 422 class continue to impress), but that bridge, I don't recall seeing such a good screenshot of that bridge before...

@ davepem, the NGTY's are nice. But it's not really necessary to quote the screenshots to just say that though. It just means people have to look at the same pics twice. (and maybe it's slows loading for people with a slow internet connection) so if you could remove it maybe quoted pictures, thanks:)

@Pete and Trent. The bridge is a built in one. It's been textured really well though. Not much of you Trent round these days:o

Dan - I'm surprised that at least two people (yourself and Dave) have noticed! Too much time with real trains, not enough with computer Trainz :). Purely out of interest, what is the bridge called, and is it avaliable in single track versions? I'm always interested in bridges, they add variety to the layout (that said, I mostly just use the built in NSW ones by CWS, haha!)

3830
October 24th, 2009, 07:35 PM
Ofcourse we notice the absence of the great Trent "Raichase" Nicholsen.:p

The bridge is called "Austin Warren Truss 2", so I'm guessing there must be a one, I'll check on the DLS.

EDIT: Theres only that bridge, no single track variant.

Having seen the 44 a million times before, as good as it is, I am overwhelmed by the realism of that track, and the generally good texturing done around the track. I'm still practising with textures (Daniels hint about holding the [ or ] button during texturing is pure genius, as well as the idea of putting darker textures under trees and where shadows would be) and landscaping, to get it looking realistic.

I hope to post screenshots of my latest pet project soon...

yeah i know there is a gauge issue i am hoping that the creator will get inspired and make a set of narrow guage bogies when he makes the new ones for the BB-18 1/4, i hope if i post enough shots he might get inspired if not i may have to fall back to bribes like a few boxes of beer lol. but in the mean time i am testing the loco for its creator, i must admit it looks and runs well.

My maps are made using google earth google maps and DEM, DEM creates a preformed landscape of any designated area and can/will feature thigns like roads watercourses and rail lines. then its just a case of putting the scenery together and completing the map. if yiou need any furrther advice dont be afraid to ask.

if you ask around there are people on this board that maybe able to help you by creating the dem you seek. you do dneed to ask them nicely and be specific about what you seek. it may take a little while so be patient.

....i still have a few holes here and there to fill, just need to add some more queensland buildings here and there to fill a few of those holes.

Scott, would that include the SM's office at the end of Wacol Station? I remember it was a two storey structure. The station staff used to hang out of a window in the second storey and wave the trains into the yard at times and also hand out paperwork to the crews.

Thanks Zec,

I'm presently only using TRS2004. Holding off using TS2009/2010 until I can upgrade my PC, & that will be awhile yet.

With this type of item, is it possible to modify it to work in TRS2004?.
Same question for scenery items?.
I note several creators make items that are compatible for most Trainz versions (TRS...04/06 TS2009).

Another question unrelated to the above:
Is anyone in VIC creating a route in the NSW border vicinity?
Anywhere from Albury through to Ouyen/Swan Hill/Balranald (NSW)?.
Having lived in Deniliquin, I'm always hopeful someone would be interested in the Deni/Balranald NSW lines, & link-ups across the border.
Particularly link-ups at Echuca, Tocumwal.

Craig (Seeseeme) & I are slowly progressing with the old Narrandera_Tocumwal branchline, & it would be great to colaborate with anyone in VIC, doing the line up to Tocumwal.

For the most part, 09 based content can be made compatible. The two areas where this isn't possible is splines (which can now take more than one LOD mesh, and use a completely different config setup for the meshes themselves and their LOD) and with scenery that is using the new config based LOD. Plus any items using mesh libraries, and various other things.

For some objects, it's ok to go back. However, you will likely lose out on many of the 'back end' things that help improve that items performance. Same as, by going back, you run a risk of allowing 'faults' (well, they would really just be obsolete methods) getting into the model, thus dropping your performance a little.

Plus you lose the ability to use those nice features that make life easier, both for the creator and the user/route builder (e.g. mesh libraries, which allow you to improve performance by a fair bit!).

Hi Zec,

My wrist is already killing me with RSI at present.:'(
You don't have to oh-so subtly twist the living daylights out of my arm!.

Yes you have given me food for thought. Now if I can just attach my hard drives to an email,
I'll whizz them down to Craig. He can just swap everything over to TRS2009 for me. Should be back by 6:30pm, shouldn't it?. Only 18Gb or so of stuff to do. Peace of cake, eh?. :D
Problems?, what problems?? :hehe: :o :hehe:

But quite seriously I take your point Zec. I really do need to consider copying stuff across to TRS2009, & getting into using that.
What's the safest/best way to set up the files?. Just all in the same partition as TRS2009, or a separate one?.
And any automated transfer techniques available?.
18-20Gb is a huge amount of data to fix, on it's way through.

There's two ways. You can manually import the items that you want using Content Manager (this would require some sorting, but I highly recommend you use this method) or you can just import the world folder of TRS2004 (this will import ALL downloaded/custom content from TRS2004, however it WILL take a while...)

I would recommend importing the route that your working on, and then import only it's dependencies (or re-download them). I would recommend the re-download method for the dependencies, so you can ensure that you A) have the latest version and B) you can find out exactly what items show 'faulty' in 09.

If you need any specific help, feel free to email me :)

Hi Zec,

Your quote below with my responses in blue italics. :)

There's two ways. You can manually import the items that you want using Content Manager (this would require some sorting, but I highly recommend you use this method) or you can just import the world folder of TRS2004 (this will import ALL downloaded/custom content from TRS2004, however it WILL take a while...) Craig & I use Trainzwapper to swap between our project "world" folder & default Trainz "World" folder. This way we keep our project stuff separate from the normal stuff. It helps when trying to be responsible with as-yet unreleased stuff.

I would recommend importing the route that your working on, and then import only it's dependencies (or re-download them). I would recommend the re-download method for the dependencies, so you can ensure that you A) have the latest version and B) you can find out exactly what items show 'faulty' in 09. I'll have a chat to Craig about doing this. However unlike Craig my Trainz 'housekeeping' leaves a lot to be desired. I have quite a sort-out job in TO first. But I take your advice & will endeavour to follow it. Firstly 'though, I'll analyse the current project map in TO & print out all dependencies.

If you need any specific help, feel free to email me :)
Zec many thanks for your kind offer. However Craig has several times offered assistance, but the fault lies with my reserve, in moving to TRS2009. But no more. I will be knocking on Craig's virtual door shortly. After Tuesday's all-day course.
However in the unlikely event of totally burning out my welcome at the Craig household, watch out! :o:hehe:

That's disheartening Glen, fortunately I never heard or read of this incident, a razorwire fence wouldn't stop them unless it was wired up to the mains power supply. (would surely make for a lovely light display during the night if some unsuspected fool was to approach it).

I quote the Auran Newsletter on the 30/10/09
"TS2010 DEV JOURNAL

With the launch dates approaching we are working on the implementation of speedtrees into the TS2010:EE routes. First on the list and also the largest task is getting speedtrees into the 175-mile secton of the ECML mainline from Kings Cross to York.

Further testing also continues on all the other routes as we continually work to improve upon all the features of the simulator, new and old alike."

I may have misinterpreted it, but thought they were talking about new 2010 trees :hehe:

I'm somewhat disillusioned with the Treez pack, was really hoping for it having some aussie type trees (eucalypts, melaucas, etc etc etc), but its all US/UK stuff, but they still DO look very nice - just a shame there were no aussie counterparts, so I could get back into route building.

Nice grass FirstSoloFlight.

Remove your email address though from your post, it is not a very good idea to have it there. People can contact you through a PM here or an email via Auran, then you can reply as you wish.

Hello All

I hope the law catches up to those vandals & NO slap on the wrist for them!!!!!.

Well the workshops have been very busy with some QGR C17 Class locomotives eg, 705, 45 (MVHR & QGR), 961, 967, 1000, 802, 762 and some Rockhampton based C17's. QGR has just made Dreddman's BB18 race up to 90km/h using my B18 engine file & fitted it with a chime whistle.

I have finally finished my PB15's but i will send then to dreddman's workshops for the steam effect and some of the PB15's will have destination boards. With GHQ I Ordered The Extention Of The Railway To A Larger Depot, If You notice In The Photo's There Is Work Trains (Hauled By PB15 750 & C17 979) & The Contruction Of A Bridge.

Lastly Ghosty I Invite You To Queensland Trainz and Any Other Person Who Likes QR & QGR

Esk??? How did you come up with that assumption ? Well, you may be right if one had stood there back in the day.

The Judge himself will be pleased he has earned his cut for up holding the law, I'll bribe him with the other half to produce the B13 ... When he's ready! lol

That's disheartening Glen, fortunately I never heard or read of this incident, a razorwire fence wouldn't stop them unless it was wired up to the mains power supply. (would surely make for a lovely light display during the night if some unsuspected fool was to approach it).

Was a surprise to find a nice set of NSW level crossings on the DLS. Big thankyou to Cardiff Workshops.

I didn't waste anytime in replacing the old Auran ones with the new Cardiff ones on my route.

David had the 620s up as a beta some time ago, if you flick through the pages of this thread, they may still be here somewhere. Not sure if the Candy and Indian Red ones actually made it to the DLS yet. I know the Cityrail one is released.

They are no longer available. I did upload them to the DLS but they wanted to call them reskins which they're NOT and everyone knows my thoughts on reskins.
I have recently found a bug in the script ....if save them in a consist, when you plonk the consist on a track the running number system blows up , well, causes an error anyway.
So, good luck to those that have them, sorry to those that don't. It looks like they'll be a while yet.

It's been a long time since I last released a route, I've started a few but never finished them. I've been working on a small 1 board route, "Colhadville" is not a publicity stunt.:p Couldn't be.

I'm pleased to be able to release a few shots of said project. I use the 620/720s a lot on this route, it's not really fit for long freight trains cos of some tight curves. Railmotors though are right at home on this route. There is also provision for helicopter flights as can be seen in these shots. There will be 26 in all so need three posts, sorry to spam the forums but I hope its all worth it.

The route comprises of residential areas, commercial and industrial zones. No interactive industries apart from passenger stations.

My dear trainz89/Michael.......You flatter me as always with your comments ......BUT.......I think we are pushing the RULES again a bit.....
the QGR Ekka Cars ???? I thought I only gave Ghostryder permission to skin them......so you are being naughty showing your own private reskins on the forums some creators would be really "Pi$$ed Off" at showing reskins of their work.....me............................I'm not impressed
Manners and Handshake copyrights were always the way of this community?
How can I do destonation boards on your locos???.........I would need the "GMAX" file..........I dont care about your screen because I know I Made em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :udrool:

i guess repsect and understanding dont mean much to some, i had permission to reskin them, like i have permission from all the creators whose work i have modified for ipswich. it is people that think that the rules dont apply to them that take the fun out of it for us that create reskin or map make. think about your actions before you act, i came close to keeping Ipswich after completing it and only sharing it with those people that have helped me make it happen. all i can say is think before you act.

Flamewar?..........whats a flamewar??? I must be getting OLD is'nt ordinary war good enough for internet viewers!.....Personally Michael I dont realy care but others get upset and rightly so.....a lot of time and effort goes into making things for Trainz so if you want to change things keep them to yourself or dont state the obvious DURrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Yes I know about the "IP" thing and it would be good to change it like the destonation boards but its a bit beyond me so the end user can clone the item and reskin a different depot on the fleet thats what I would do

@Raichase. God Damn Pixellation. haha. No I don't work for IRA. The 44's have a bit more character with the the B end leading. I don't know what it is, they just look nice.

btw, does anyone know if davidt is still active. If theres enough interest I might release his 42s which have been revamped some what in terms of the paint scheme (matching it to Daves yellows and browns etc), swapping bogies, changing grill pattern etc.

I think Davidt lurks around, however hardly ever posts.
I might be completely wrong, but I think Davidt built the 42 before he could use G-Max. It should only be a repaint of Aurans own 42.
I think Auran released the mesh on their cd too.
So if I am right, you only need acknowledge him and Pikkabird (who he collaborated with) and Auran.. right?

Hello All

:) Dear my good friend Dreddman,
I thank you for your lovelly comments regarding QGR & its strong fleet of locomotives. Can you wire me your email address so i can post those PB15's, B18 771 and my version of Destination boards. If you look back I named a Grand Bridge and a creek after you, also ghosty and lenice have a bridge in honour of their service to QGR.

Yes I know about the "IP" thing and it would be good to change it like the destonation boards but its a bit beyond me so the end user can clone the item and reskin a different depot on the fleet thats what I would do
Michael I know and understand you are a loyal qr fan but slow down dude and yes I will have a look at your steamers

Interstate rivalry has been going a very long time :hehe:
However the arguments might have very well gotten serious after it was decided to build a railway in each State.
Those bludger's south of the Murray announced that they might link the City with the wharves at Port Melbourne. So they chose Standard Gauge and proceeded to order the materials from England. I believe that Stevenson won the engine contract, and Victoria's 4 engines were added to a long list.
However the Engineer in charge of NSW Railway construction was an Irishman and decided that he was not going to have anything of this English SG. He convinced the Government to go Irish BG.
The folk down in Melbourne could see the advantage of having the same gauge in the future as they were bright enough to think people would eventually move between Adelaide,Melbourne and Sydney. So both South Australia and Victoria decided to go BG too. Victoria contacted Stevenson and changed the gauge, but it delayed the arrival of the engines.
Consequently and having to understand communications between Melbourne and Sydney were via Cobb and Co or coastal shipping and could take weeks.
Communications with Mother England could take months
In Sydney some were not very happy with our little Irish Engineer and replaced him with a Scotsman. Our Scotsman cancelled the Irish BG and elected to use the English Standard 4 foot 8 and a half!
By the time Melbourne and Adelaide found out, it was too late to change and so they remained with BG as did Hobart as well.
Stevenson's engine did not arrive for the grand opening of the Port Melbourne line, so they got Melbourne Machinery Company recently of Queens Street Melbourne to modify two standard steam driven farm engines to operate on rails, and they actually ran the first trains on the first steam railway on metal rails to operate in Australia.
So Interstate rivalry was alive and strong in 1850, and has little diminished in 2009

Hi ComTrain,

Further to your very interesting history lesson (which all Australians should learn), might I concur the rivalry?.

Around late 1870's/80's, it became apparent that there was indeed a need to extend the rail network to service the eastern areas of the Riverina in NSW.

The line from near Echuca to Deniliquin was laid & proved most active.
So then the Narrandera_Tocumwal branch line began it's southern push.

Firstly from Narrandera in the north, to Jerilderie (about half-way of the eventual route). Then some time later that was extended to Berrigan.
And later still, it headed westward to Finley.

Now comes the interesting bit.
For many years, Riverina farmers & those further north-westward had used the old Cobb & Co route down through Hay_Deniliquin to Echuca.
Similarly, further to the east, down through Jerilderie_Finley to Tocumwal.

The Narrandera_Tocumwal branchline carrying the wool to Sydney, & grain to Melbourne. Funny that.
Anyway, what with the mutual distrust & greed of the two states, a stalemate now took place for several years. NSW refused to push all the way to Tocumwal, in fear that Victoria would gain most of the lucrative trade.
However after several years delay, the branchline eventually arrived at Tocumwal, to meet up with the Victorian line already across the Murray River.

Both states in fact benefited considerably from this hook-up.
One of the most significant benefits being during WWII, when the largest airfield in the Southern hemisphere was built by Australians for the Americans, who called it McIntyre Field. Covering approx 25 square miles, & taking the total output of BHP for three months (bitumen for sealing four long runways & many miles of taxiways & roadways), it was a mammoth task.
The airbase camp being an extention of the township of Tocumwal (population near 500). Later, the on-base population swelling to just over 5,000 after the base was handed to the RAAF, as the war headed further north with the retreating Japanese.
This airbase was to be very much a last-ditch stand for the defence of the south-eastern area of Australia. Darwin was being constantly bombed, Singapore had fallen & Japanese were already sending the equivalent of SAS soldiers several miles inland in the Top End.
The Narrandera_Tocumwal branchline had thus become probably the most strategic defence line for Australia. A vast number of troops & supplies were ferried through Tocumwal during the war years. The yard at Tocumwal rapidly became a maze of NSW/VIC/& dual-gauge lines, with long transfer platforms & I think four gantry cranes.
Both NSW & VIC gauge lines were extended onto McIntyre field, & also as loop lines to the west, where an immense Munitions area once existed.

Apologies for no pic of a train, yet. :o

There will be standard gauge up here in a few years. The Great Inland Railway or something.
I heard there was an official announcement the other day about a freight line from Moree to Toowoomba where there will be an intermodal terminal built near Charlton. Construction was to start ASAP. The idea is to run freight from Melbourne to North Queensland. The line will continue west through Miles and Wandoan upwards to Gladstone after they build 'the missing link' between Wandoan and Moura. There has been talk of this for about 15 years and the word is that its going to be dual gauge. A new coal mine is being built at Cameby Downs near Miles and coal trains will run east to the port of Brisbane until 'the missing link' is built. Then the coal will go to Gladstone. All to be finished by 2012.:)

Someone just watched 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. :hehe:

I work for QR and I have no idea who John Bell is...

IIRK, the only John Bell that ever had any importance in QR's history was the John Bell who was a major share holder in the first Queensland sugar cane railway in the late 1800's. That John Bell doesn't know anyone anymore... he's pushing up daisies.

The bridge is a heap of road bridges put next to each other to make the 'tunnel'. Those particular ones were built into TRS06 (probably 04 as well) & above. In real life, there's a bus stop to the left of the pic upstairs. The road that those stairs leads up to is for buses only.

A quick question.

On my little EEE-PC 900 I managed to get 34 variations on 3D Eucalypts made, including lods. No configs, as I still have not seriously tested them. I have a new laptop which can run Trainz (finally) so I can test them but am completely unenthused about it all. With Speetree coming out with '10, I feel that my work is wasted.

Is it worthwhile finishing them off, when there is a better solution in the works? With some vague testing and countless hours of work, they really don't look as good as I would like, although I did my best to work within the limits of '09. Despite the silly hours of work I've put into these, it seems pointless if Speedtree takes over.

In a way, I'm starting to feel that I don't care about TRS anymore. I'll be perfectly honest, I don't really like the community we have now. I miss the days of old. And I was always interested in the Trainz thing because of the community. There used to actually be some fun in the community. So I suppose I've turned into a cynical old cod.

Is it really worth finishing and releasing my work for trainz anymore? Or should I just sell my meshes on Turbosquid or something...

I'm just wondering if there's any point, as there is something better for TRS. Speedtree is a wonderful thing, and would be hard to beat.

Any opinions?

I don't mind my work 'wasted'. I'm just wondering if it is worthwhile. If people migrate to 2010, then it seems pointless.

I take it that the speedtree's are either going to be an add on pack (read payware) or built in, if payware then most people will not have them, if built in the the range will be limited, probably to Nth American type tree's, so there is, and always will be, a welcome mat out for anyone that decides to make tree's, especially Australian varieties :D

Judging by the publicity shots, we are not getting any Speedtree based Australian trees. My impression of the trees shown is that they are more like caricatures than real trees, I don't like them.

We really need your trees, we also need you on the forum. I agree that it does seem to lack something that existed in the past, difficult to say what it is, possibly the influx of new people that always comes with a new release. New people who look on this as a game, who expect too much and must have it now! This can be annoying, I think that you and I and many others regard it as a hobby.

Stick with us, it will get better.

cynical old cod.

Does this mean you are an ancient fish?

...some things do change, however. No more run-around loop, big platform shelter, steel sleepers.

Hope you enjoyed that.
