Thanks for doing these Peter ( I might just leave the picture up because some might have missed them due to the Birthday celebrations) Happy Birthday Bill :hehe:
If you see this before you check your mail. I need one kuid, please?
I have checked up on the destination roll, and it is part of Andi's superscript.
I know you get frustrated with the script, but I think we will have to get a team together to see if we can get you past it :hehe: Now when these cars were joined together they had walkways to allow the crew to walk between the cars (not the Motor Drivers Cab end)
The checker plate was only as wide as the upright pillars each side of the door, and layed on top of one another. The plates were curved on their face .
When not in use they were pinned up blocking the doorway. When dropped down four sets of chains were clipped between the cars.
The superscript can operate the marker lights, make the destination scroll work, can join the hose bags as well as drop the tread plates and join the chains. It can also random number the carriages. All would seem worth while projects. Any volunteers that might be able to help us do all of the above?
Cheers

Bounty Hunters reported in they discovered a possible link to the "RailPage" forums by someone going under the handle of "QRGC" I think? anyway useing the same badge pic and sounding the same ?
Location Brisbane? hMnnnn
After discussing the memo/bill from "Hunters Moon" pty.ltd
We got doen to serious business seems QR in all their wisdom a few years back did some chopping and changing trying to get the best power to weight ratio ......The motion has been brought up by "Ghostryder" a few times at meetings ...and been outvoted.....
But due to the sales of other classes and preorders of the old PB18 it has been decided that production of the B18 class should start as soon as posible ........................
Construction should not take long and a proto type is due out soon
New passanger carrages were on the list also but I wont bore you with the details....................????
Relations with the workers seems to be alot better and production higher? since the new union took over the shops and let their many children??? come to work....oh well everyone seems happy here at QDR

I thought the walkways were added at a later stage of their life and not part of the original build? The Harris are trains I dont have much knowledge in but.
My memory, dull as it is getting these days
Was the 500's arrived with no inter-car walkways and 2 doors per side.
They soon received 3 doors.
The 700's arrived with three doors per side and inter-car connections.
Then came long trailers.
As station staff were reduced, and ticket inspectors were increased, they rebuilt all cars to have inter-car connections.
However not really sure if that is right. Perhaps the three door versions were first? I doubt that, I heard many complained the old Taits were so much easier (and quicker) to load because of the multiple doors.
In the 80's when I drove these things, they did all have inter-car doors, because we used to prepare the train for stabling by walking through to kick the drunks off :hehe:

Well I guess its easier to push them off at the platform than to push them out the door in the yard. :hehe: And maybe if you throw them off the night before like we did, your mates on morning shift, will not have to face the stench and the vomit and smeg the next morning. I was an Eltham driver, and that's why we spent a few minutes extra doing that, although going home did have its attractions :D Mind you, I watched the rosters and paid back the slackers on the other shift ;)

What I should have claified Rod, was that we push them off at the platform before taking the units into the yard at the end of the run. The last few trains heading in any direction usually stow at the outdepots so have to be empty before going into the yard.

Dreddman,
Yes, the B18's were predominantly green, however in the closeing years of steam in Queensland many were painted black after overhaul..
The B18 was dimensionally very similar to the BB18's, the only real differences being the B18's had a standard brake pump mounted on the opposite side of the boiler than the compound pump the BB18's had.
The only other differences is that the B18's had a C17 MK1 style cab as opposed to the sedan cab.
Hope this helps.

Hello All
:D Dear Dreddman & Spacemarine88, A Nice Note From The Head Of QGR.
I am An Expert On The B18 Class, So According To The QR Archives In Ipswich; The First B18 To Be Painted Green Was 1949 And Before That They Were All In Black, So Please Don't Get Them Mixed Up With The 'Brown Bombers'. They Were In Green Livery Until The End Of Steam.
The Original B18's Were Built With C16 Style Tenders & Cabs But In 1936 They Rebuilt Them With Sedan Cabs And Some With Electric Lighting Mounted On The Smokebox Door Also With Newer Riveted Tenders. These Were Reffered As The 'Standard' B18's.
A Correction My Dear Dreddman; The First B181/4 Was No.84 Which Was Built A The Departments Workshops At Ipswich In 1926 Not B18 No.82 In Your Picture. I Will Provide Plans & Pictures Of B18's If Requested. Did You Know That No.84 Has The Highest Mileage Of Any QGR Locomotive.
Finally I Have Been Busy With My Work And Haven't Contacted Dr.G Cash About My Version Of An Early B18. I Will Post Pictures & More QGR Tonight

sorry for not commenting on this early but have been busy with personnel matters.
the early members of the B-18 1/4 class were fitted with Planished blue boiler sheeting which for working the mail trains was highly polished. the class was painted black during the war years and in 1949 a coat of Brunswick Green paint was aplied to was applied to the class with polished brass boiler bands and trimmed in red. ande a coat of Hawthorn Green with red trim for the BB-18 1/4.
information taken from Locomotives in the tropics Vol2 written by John Armstrong.

Hey,
I would like to know if anyone has any drawings or info on the N car sets. These are the carriages that were used on the Newcastle Flyer before the air-condition carriages were brought in.
http://www.arhsact.org.au/images/stories/hn.jpg
I am also wondering the tonnage of the 12 wheeler cars, especially the sleeping cars eg, TAM, EAM, KAM
Thanks, Daniel

Although far away from all of my books and reference material (in Edinburgh), I made an attempt at scanning a book (which is available from the AR Kits site for a cheapish price) which has most NSW passenger stock. I'll check my external HDD tonight to see if I managed to scan the N car diagrams. Good feeling i did.

Hi All
Tonight saw the departure of another train from the ZR workshops to the Auran DLS. It consisted of 8 T classes, plus a string of unknown wagons...
I was thankfully able to actually go out and watch the departure, however I was only able to chase it from the ZR workshops to Dhura Oon, and I've not had word if it has made it through or not.
Anyway, the reason why I'm posting here... The screenshots :) Warning, these are 1680*1050 images (behind the thumbs that is).
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/stuff/images/S301_20090906_0000t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/stuff/images/S301_20090906_0000.jpg)
TS2009 sits at the head of the consist at the ZR workshops platform prior to departure...

Having departed the workshops, the train is seen hurrying along the dual gauge track just outside the workshops.
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/stuff/images/S301_20090906_0002t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/stuff/images/S301_20090906_0002.jpg)
TS2009 hurries through Devon Junction with ditch lights flashing. Thankfully they slowed down enough to drop the staff off!

Now on the mainline, the train is seen coasting through Dhura Oon's mainline road.

The final shot of the night sees the T's coasting across the small creek just outside of Dhura Oon.
Have fun!

Just quoting your excellent pics there, I see that you are making staggering progress on this. I was trying to build the same system but I'm at least three years from completion. You see, I'm doing the whole CityTrain network. And it will take a while, unless I get some help. But anyhoo, nice pics! I see you updated the Robina Station to include the new setup what with Skilled Park stadium in. These stations, their detail, it is, 'ow you say, tres magnifique.
I see you're not using the QR Catenary though. Not that it matters. And now I ask the inevitable: is it coming on the DLS?

Thanks Mitchey, Scottling & Ausrail8040.
Scottling, I've been working on this since I got TRS06 (sometime in 2006) & only have Northgate-Caboolture to go.
As I work for QR, I am unable to share this route. Remember when a guy came onto this forum a while ago boldly proclaiming he was now a railway employee & was offering to share QR info to anyone who asked? You may also remember I told him where he'll end up if he did that - not in QR. I'm sure Lenice will agree with me on that one. If you travel on the train, you can see the same stuff that everyone sees and put it into your routes, that's all I've done. As anyone who has built a prototypical route will tell you, it takes a keen eye, a good memory... and Google Earth.
I'm not telling you where to go, just explaining how it is. I've started to put up these screenies because I'm proud of my efforts to date and people seem to like them (thanks guys). If you don't like them, so what? Also, as a tribute to all of the creators who created the content, to show them that it is used and appreciated. Also, I have learnt a lot of building techniques by seeing others' screenies and if someone learns something from mine, their Trainz experience will be more realistic. That's what this forum's all about after all.
PS Scottling, I DO so have Sonne03's brilliant catenary in places, that cab view Mitchey refered to has some of it lit up by the headlight, hehehe. It's just that rewiring hundreds of km's of line already built is a hell of a job and unless it's needed, I couldn't be stuffed. Hopefully there'll be some spleens coming along:wave:
Don't worry about time required for building your route - it will happen, and if you don't feel like building for a while, stop. You're not getting paid for it, it's a hobby.
Thanks for the kind words all.

You do not have to make up excuses not to share ;)
Many people in Trainz don't share, we know not why.
If you are worried about what your boss will do. Simply prepare a submission and make it available to your superior officer, explain the things that worry you, and seek permission to upload the route to the community.
It is done all the time ;)

Regarding the use of QR track layouts, I obtained the plans for the Ipswich Railway Workshops from the QR archives, for the sole purpose of recreating it for the Trainz simulator.
The only thing I had to sign was a declaration not to resell the drawings or use it for commercial uses.
They even allowed me to take photo's of buildings and surrounds.
(The workshops layout is on the DLS.)
You should be able to get all the info from Google Earth in any case.

I agree. I thought it was a little perculiar at first. After all, Auran has already copied the 2100 and Lander Coaches plus more... surely a route won't matter? Unless its a safety reason, what with terror threats these days and all...
What has the world come to...
Just my thoughts,
Mitch

What has the world come to...
Mitch
Correct Mitchey, what has the world come to? I don't know what it's come to, but that's exactly what it's come to. I'm not going to go into the umpteenth degree of why I can not release it, average Joe Public doesn't need to know, that's just the way it is. I'm not going to put my livelihood at risk for a game. Trainz won't pay the bills.
As I said last time, I didn't put the screenshots up to advertise a future release, I put them up because:-
- it's a screenshots thread, not a freeware/payware announcements thread; - I'm proud of my work;
- people seemed to like what I have done;
- I appreciate the work of the content creators who are willing to share stuff;
- Because I wanted to prove that I'm not all talk and can actually do things on Trainz after all the questions I've posted over time (and my reply to "the Commissioner" a few weeks ago), and;
- maybe others will get construction ideas like I have with other people's screenshots.
Keep in mind that the guy creating the V set got a bit frustrated at people just expecting to own a set by threatening to never release it. Fine I say, he created it, he can do whatever he wants with it, without feeling obliged to give it to others. Maybe he has a work issue himself, maybe not, it's HIS reason, nothing we have the right to know. END OF STORY.
Now, do you all want me and my pictures to p*ss off, or do you want me to keep trying - without being called selfish, or a BS artist?
Ryan

Tonight saw a rather interesting congregation of ZR locos at the workshops (currently also being used for general loco housing until more facilities are made available...).
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/stuff/images/zr-loco-01t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/stuff/images/zr-loco-01.jpg)
First off we see T368 and A2 964 sitting at the water towers. The T was filling up a pair of WT (water tank) wagons prior to running a good service, whilst the A2 was waiting to head out on a passenger service.
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/stuff/images/zr-loco-02t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/stuff/images/zr-loco-02.jpg)
Another view of the loco area, showing K103, S301, a V class and T368.
http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/stuff/images/zr-loco-03t.jpg (http://zecrail.victrainz.com.au/stuff/images/zr-loco-03.jpg)
And of course a show of K103, S301 and the V class at the coal stage. Almost immediately after this photo the T class was used to pull the K and S forward into the headshunt so they could go back into the shed. As the ash pit is near the coal stage, the steamers often need to be pulled forward by a diesel prior to being shunted back into the sheds.

Pictures are far and few between on line. Even in books they are quite rare, tho you do see them combined with the Budds (1100s) and after they were de-motorised (loco hauled).

I could not find any pictures of them working in NSW at least on their own
i found a picture of one yesterday on the net, but do you think i can find it today, anyway it showed one in Canberra yard of all places and it had the covers on it, which basically comprised of three pieces of rubber tubing. Was this proto or is this an improvisation?

That's an improvisation (I've seen a pic of the demotorised 1200 with tubes). The ends were of similar standard to the Budds, 900s etc etc.

According to Peter Vincent
To provide more railcars, two New South Wales Railways railcars were purchased in 1974. The cars were of the NSWR 'PCH' class. The two cars were transferred to Victoria on the standard guage during June 1974. The cars were transferred to Newport Workshops where they were modified for use by VR. These cars entered service about twelve months later as DRC42 (formerly PCH 1224) and DRC43 (formerly PCH 1227)
http://www.pjv101.net/fts/u01/aw004.gif
So these are the two numbers we have in Victoria.
All we need do is backdate them to 1973?

looking at the plans Nat posted, there is a difference in the larger crew end. It appears that the crew section does not extend right across the interior allowing passengers to alight that end, the other version had a cafeteria in it not sure if VLine ever did that, speaking of which Rod would it be better if the Vic one went chrome and orange?

We are getting some H Trailers which these things towed in their orange days.
I would forget the restaurant cars with this model. They need to be rebuilt and have a different code number in NSW anyway, if you care to start another one?
I think we have built but two of the cars available. Name the silver ones with their NSW codes and the orange ones with the Viccy codes.
DRC42 (formerly PCH 1224) and DRC43 (formerly PCH 1227)
And thanks for these, on my North East layout I can run the NSW ones out of Albury, and the Viccy ones out of Seymour :hehe:

Those signals you showed were three position and I think the last of them just got replaced down here in the South in recent weeks.
That signal in Pete's screenshot was or looked to me to be a 2 Pos English upper quad signal. I have never seen them in NSW or Viccy.

Interesting Mr Cheif Commissioner............looks like a hacked Auran PB15 to me?.....so you do have basic gmax skills?
Well I beg to differ a little bit here on the B18 Do you have "Loco's in the Tropics" vol 2 in the archives? if so pages 86 to 96 deal with the B18 and I'm sorry to report that your a little bit out....in your design,
If you have managed to learn some basic gmax skills and hacked the Auran PB15 well n good thats how you learn !..........

This is an absolute cack, I post a picture with a very unusual piece of rollingstock with so little information available that there are about 5 pics on the web, and we get a discussion about the loco and the signals, (very old layout, Nats signals were'nt made then and yes the loco is on the dls)
The only certainty was the size of the carriage frame and wheels because it was built on that of another piece of rolling stock I have modelled. So I built it based on the sketchy info from the pics and you all missed it:D
The PRH a pneumatic discharge cement hopper. I can find no mention of it in any rollingstock books I have, don't know how many were made, but it's nice

A possible livery for the S class in 1936/7

G'day Bill
One of our railway historian's has done a lot of work on trying to work out what colour the S Class with the deflectors really was.
However most people say you cannot "see" red in a black and white photo.
It should be noted that no color pictures, paintings or drawings show the S Class as being red.
Apart from one man, everybody else believes the S Class was in fact black. It is a wonder that the passenger work horse of the day, being the A Class was not also supposed to be painted red?
I much prefer them black too, regardless of what the truth of the matter really is.
Cheers
Rod
PS your repaint is very pretty, but still I really like the black one :D

It's known that the S's were painted red from VR records. Newsrail lists the S's as having been painted 'ferric red' in 1934. MFE was 35/36 and streamlined in 37/38 (301 and 302 in 37 were painted in red). 303 and possibly 300 ran with red streamlined tenders prior to streamlining.
It's not a case of 'if' they were painted red (VR records show they were) but what parts were painted red. And this is where the issue with B&W photos comes in.
As shown above, they did run for a few years in black. Namely from construction through to 34 (approx 6 years). After this, they were painted into a 'ferric red' livery to match the Melbourne/Albury express cars. This was carried over when first streamlined to maintain the look of a train with matching colours.

What I would really like to know is whether the deflectors were painted red; I suspect they would have been. At a recent meeting at Wandong there were three S class with MFE, two in red and one all black, all had black deflectors (if my ailing memory serves me right).
A great spot, Wandong, right next to the mainline to Sydney. All the loco drivers give a couple of toots as they drive by!

You got to remember I fired for 4 years with George Lynch who fired on the steam SOP. He was son of the legend of the North East George Lynch Senior.
Both men were photographers, and Young George used to talk about the job because he knew I was interested. He talked about the S coming to Wodonga in Red, but as I remember it, it was the streamliner.
Anyway if Bill remembers it at Wallan, I bow to his memories :D

The lighting is in 06', as 09' is not to my liking, and the pics are taken at around 6:15 in the morning. That's what the mornings look like here in Newcastle at 6:15 in real life so thats why I've made them look "sterile" in the game.

For the most part you don't see big black streams of smoke from a steamer, except for oil fired or if you have a very poor fireman/coal. You might see a small amount (take a look at my steamers when they're stationary), but not overly much. When a loco is working, you will see a fair bit of steam, seeing as that is what it's using.
Of course, the current settings aren't perfect. But with tweaking I'm pretty sure it can be gotten pretty close (the main issue is that you either have this dirty, black smoke all the time or fluffy white steam all the time, it would be good to be able to have the new animated smoke/steam from TC3 that is also affected by the regulator/cutoff settings).
But, at least in my own travels behind preserved locos, I've not seen lots of black smoke (again except for oilies).

Yeah Zec, I haven't done anything about changing the smoke yet (slack, maybe burnt out :( ) but mainly because I'm not 100% happy with anything that we've tried. As you and Peter have said, at speed they don't billow loads of smoke.
Twinkles is so tedious but at the moment it seems the only solution.
If only I could summon the enthusiasm :'(

Well Mr Mitch, The B13 Wasn't The Smallest Locomotive With QGR
Thank you, although I realised it wasn't the smallest loco that QR had, I didn't know what was, and my guess would have been the A10. The B13 on the other hand did catch my eye, as I like its small size with a tender.
I always did think that QR's tank engines looked kinda bulky, but that just adds character, and more reason to like them.
Thanks again!

Something I threw together in TRS2009, WBE - a fictional representation of the old signal box and station masters residence at Yarongmulu. Its NOT prototypical, but it was never meant to be.
QR 1529 Up Empty Stock heads into the loop, to await a cross with a down goods.
http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/8082/muliebuck200909160000.jpg
With the hiss of airbrakes, 1529 continues to slow, passing some of the lovingly tended gardens at Yarongmulu.
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/7596/muliebuck200909160001.jpg
1529 eases up to the home signal on the mainline, awaiting the cross for the down train, with the station masters house in the background.
http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/3601/muliebuck200909160003.jpg
It is a fictional three board modular route (at present) and may well be uploaded to the Auran Download Station for others to use as they wish - either as an extension of an existing route, or using it as a starting point for a new route. All dependencies, bar Pikkabird's QR 1520 class (available from his website, which is located at www.pikkarail.com ) *should* be on the Auran DLS (I will confirm this before uploading), with this route having tunnels at either end of the route, and designed as a north/south facing route (when in reality, the real location is more east/west).

When you select upload in CMP uncheck the include dependencies box then accept. If your route uses stuff that's built in or on the DLS then people won't have problems getting it.
However if you've used stuff that was released as public betas and the like, my crossings for example, then you should remove them from your route before you attempt to upload it because others may not have them and they are no longer available.

You know, this is WHY they're beta's - to find the issues and report them to their creator, who will, in his or her good time, fix them, and not before :)

The second screen is really nice I think.
Where can I find the tracks on these two screens?
Best regards,
Franz;)

Both are on the Auran Download Station, as UK Bullhead - Wooden (KUID:79563:90009) and UK Bullhead - Rusty (KUID:79563:9001), by the username of Rumour3. These are tracks built to TRS2009 standards, but I do believe he has made 'lower quality' types for TRS2004/TRS2006 - do a username search on the Auran DLS for him, and you'll find them :)

I download TRS2004 and TRS2006 content that works in 09, maybe you should try to download some versions and see if they work?
I dont know if they will though.

Franzy41, there is a 'version' of that UK bullhead track on the auran DLS, that may well suit what you're trying to do (get track that looks like the 09 stuff I used) - its by rumour3 (the creator of the 09 track) and looks almost as good in TRS2006, as what the 09 stuff does in 09. Just make sure you get the right version :)

Good evening,
I too do not understand how.
Is it possible to send me the version that works with Trainz 2008 please?
Thank you in advance.

Hi Franz
The TRS2004/TRS2006 version should work in TRS2008 (content for versions of Trainz older than your version, should generally work in the version you have).
As Muliebuck said. There is a version of the track made for TRS2004 and newer (TRS2006, TC1/2, TC3, TRS2007, TRS2008, etc) on the download station.

Some more from yet another little fictional modular route - this one is called Forrest (based on a real world location, in South Australia).

Franz
I think the "2008" is the cause of your confusion?
When searching on the Download station search for 2004 and 2006 ;)
Try to do it this way
visit http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS.php
Untick the 2009 box so that it is NOT included in your search
TICK only the 2006 and 2004 boxes.
Like this
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/892/bullhead01y.jpg
Here I have searched USERNAME Rumour3
And go through the results until you find this entry..

And that is all there is to it

some nice work/screens by those of you..
marvelous simplified ftp tute there Rod!
Thanks to my lousy prehistoric skeleton of a pusbox finally keeled over this evening, (not to mention taking almost a decade, minus "5-1/2 hours" to install the 40040 patch for 09" chewing up all resources in the process). She's furiously spit the dummy in the first quarter, so time comes again to back trash up n spend big bikkies overhauling a pile of junk.
I should have seen the signs prior to 8 months ago when 06 crashed n wouldn't reinstall.
