Best to use CCP for the track configs... It is much easier to see what is going on. Also, do a search on TrainzDev... There is a very good thread by MartinVK on there in regards to the track LOD's :)

Looking very good so far though!

Attempts to add some colour to the route. Just past (south of) Ingleburn Station about 10km north of Campbelltown. As I basically have a fresh installation of TRS2006 there aren't many good buildings to use.

Looking south of the station

Looking down the Glenfield - Ingleburn passing loop

Looking towards the start of the passing loop

http://www.chopstickles.com/trs-route/in-2009-06-04-%5B3%5D.jpg

I'm curious about what other proto route creators do in terms of copying the real time scenery. What sort of significant items do you try to replicate on the map? As this part of sprawling Sydney there is alot of housing, so I was thinking about copying the more important objects such as stations (will be very highly detailed) and nearby shops, plus some of the larger factories. Beyond that the route would have a more "rural" feel to it so it won't strain the computer so much.

Lastly... omgosh I need to learn how to texture better!

P.S - Only effects used on images was the Auto Levels in Fireworks MX and creating a narrow border.

Lastly... omgosh I need to learn how to texture better!

The best piece of advice I can give you is start a new tile, and find a min of 3 grass textures that work well, at least one of them has to have good results at max scale, because this is going to be your base grass colour. Then find a few that match - or close enough to - the ballast, both only need to be at min scale. Save all these textures and order them with which you use first > last in the following steps:

Now paint the area with grass, large scale texture, HOLDING [ or ] keys the entire time, and with the smallest brush. This may take a long long time, but well worth the effort. Do the same with the ballast - lowest scale, except don't hold the mouse button, instead give it taps, because you don't want to ruin the detail of the texture.

Repeat with other ballast textures until you have a nice blend, try to avoid similar patterns appearing, as this is the whole reason we go through this long process. And again with the grass, only difference is that we are highlighting now, not covering. And play with the scale - always holding [ or ] for rotation. LOTS OF TAPPING.

A few key things that really make a world of difference is the obvious smaller details like; browner grainy textures beneath trees, this can give the effect of shadows and/or fallen leaves.

Just look at photos and see what little differences you can emulate with texture'ing. The main thing to pay attention to is that the colour of the ground in real life isn't that colour for no apparent reason, nature makes it that way for it to be an effective balance for our flora and founa. Trainz shouldn't disregard this. Don't paint random colours for no reason, every texture has to be able to tell a tale. :)

"I think 09 is going to sort the men from the boys in the content creating arena."..........Davido
Since reading this comment yesterday I have been thinking about this while trying to wrap my head around the new modeling guidlines for TRS09
Has Auran shot themselves in the foot?
As they dont produce content..."We still get their crappy QR 2100 class with non animated wheels in 09.......That was a 1.1 Loco?"
So if they make content creation more difficult for the Hobbist Freeware Creator .....and they give up !!! There will be less Freeware Content available to the masses?
Especially in area's where not many create.......Aussie stuff
There will always be the latest n greatest Yank, Pommy or even Euro stuff released as there is more of them over there so the pecentage of them becomming creators is greater , but there is not many of us here in OZ that create and as the creation bar is raised not all might be able to reach it and fade away fron content creation, (not talking about myself in any way here)
or give up trying to learn as the learning curve is steep enough already.
So what happens then? Someone who has spent MANY HOURS learning everything needed to create something for TRS09 decides it has taken so long (and there are few creators around) I will only do PAYWARE!!.

So as we await the release of "TRS2025 Planet Master" we know it will cost us $100.00 credits and a further $1,000.00 credits for the necessary Payware to see our local scenes.

Just a Thought

it's already started dreddy, there are a lot less people doing content its getting to complicated. I wont create for 2009 or 06 I will make it for 04. If it works in 06 or 09 well thats a plus for people who run that, I concede that the stuff being made for 09 looks nice, but we are not on the payroll and auran reaps the financial benefits of our work in extra sales and I have a life outside of this place, although my wife doesnt think so. They should have improved the graphics of the existing as well as the physics of steam and left it at that

LF01 passes under a road bridge spanning the cutting on its way up Hastings Hill...

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/flash1771/CrestingtheHill.jpg
and as it crests the rise the crew get ready for the down hill run enjoying the view as they go.

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/flash1771/CallatFooksMill.jpg
They then call in at Fook's Pulp Mill to see what rollingstock they will need to get their goods to the city markets.

It has been a busy day in Moreton Downs. The report filed with the City Manager has caused a hive of activity. An official Ceremony has been organised to celebrate the re-start of regular passenger and freight services in the district.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/flash1771/LF04HeadingsouththroughWindermere.jpg
LF04 heads south through Windemere. It is a special with a load of locos to restock Preston Depot for the freight services around the district.

On its way, LF04 passes through Kelso Station....

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/flash1771/LF04arrivesatPrestonDepot.jpg
..and arrives at Preston Depot where the crew stows the locos ready for their start after the district ceremonies and then heads to the amenities room for a meal and a welcome cuppa.

A Special rolled into Moreton Downs today along with a delivery of rollingstock for the freight services.

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/flash1771/3M63PassingoverKeimsGapBridge.jpg
The Special 3M63 seen here crossing Keim's Gap bridge is hauled by 1461 Gold 1460 class with special Evens class coaches behind.

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/flash1771/3M63StartingupHastingsHill.jpg
Here it starts the haul up Hastings Hill. Soon there will be passengers to enjoy the view as well as the traincrews...

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/flash1771/3M63DownHastingsHill.jpg
..and the downhill run also.

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/flash1771/3M63arrivingatPrestonStation.jpg
Finally it rolls into Preston Station for the district re-opening ceremony. This train is being run as a special passenger to carry locals around the district for the day.

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/flash1771/6M67rollingbyKlaprothLogging.jpg
Meanwhile another train is on its way to Preston. 6M67 with a looong rake of log wagons rolls by the branch for Klaproth Logging on its way to Preston yard.

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/flash1771/6M67passingLipscombe.jpg
Here it passes the Change Cabin at Lipscombe. This cabin is used by the crews while they wait to relieve other local crews or those from the city running out of shift time.
Thanks to Dreddman for the wonderful Evens class QR coaches. Pikkabird supplied the great 1460 loco.Love them both guys. Great pieces of content.

http://home.spin.net.au/spooney/15.jpg

I know it is a bit presumptuous for me to suggest that these should be made into a pack, but if they were I would suggest that you have the following.

1. Single track (done)
2. bare wire for connecting at junctions etc.
3. Double track central pole.
4. double track gantry style.
5. possibly more than double track gantry style if that takes your fancy...

having said that though, I really don't wanna sound pushy,.. if I had the time and skills (maybe I used to... my footbridges still look cool :)) I would so help out with that.

Cheers!

TODAY.....is my birthday and to celebrate I'm giving a little gift to all my forum friends :D
For a limited time, I'm making the Indian Red & Candy 620-720 Railcars available from my webspace.
They are the TRS2006 version but may work in other versions. ;)
All the dependencies are on the DLS. If you have the CityRail ones you'll already have them.

Download Here. (http://home.exetel.com.au/cws/beta/620_720_railcars.cdp)

These where suppose to be on the DLS by now,
but I don't want them listed as a reskin so I'm waiting for Auran to fix the issue before I upload them.

http://home.exetel.com.au/cws/trainzfilez/Screen_137.jpg

Anyway I'll leave them up for a day or two.

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes...I've had a nice day

Also thanks again to Ausrail for the Cranbourne items - they are wonderful.
Colhad - your vehicles have made a huge difference.

Having obvious Australian stuff to mix with everything else has made such a difference to my layout.

Willum - your Laidley / trucks / cattle yards etc - great
the engine and rolling stock builders - extraordinary

and eveyone else who contributes to my huge enjoyment of Trainz - sincere thanks.

I'm just short of seven years with Trainz and have finally got some real time to spend at the computer - and all this amazing stuff is making it very enjoyable.

Sorry guys, I took them down because I noticed a few problems in some of those fantastic screenies everyone's been posting.
Was I the only one to notice the incomplete headlight cowl on the Indian Red 62x?....anyway fixed now plus I put in the directional seating.
If you can't live with the first version you'll have to delete them and download them again. :( Sorry, my bad.

1210 sits in light steam behind 44211 on a transfer run from Canberra to Sydney in preparation for the 150th Anniversary of Railways in NSW, the trip has been slightly delayed by a hot-box detector being set-off and the train being put into a loop till the cause of the issue is resolved, it appears ARTC have forgotten their is a steam locomotive in the consist...generally they are hot and may set such detectors off!

626/726 form the Orange Day train as they glide down grade through the Blue Mountains, no doubt the drive is looking forward to getting home to have a good nap having had to stop at all stations beyond Lithgow and maintain a timetable to meet up with the Silver City Comet at Orange.

Hope you guys enjoy the screenies!

A little further down the line (:p) and the reasoning behind the wrong-road running is made apparent to the driver of 626/726, a C30 appears to have run into a spot of trouble part-way through a light engine transfer run.

I've had a few questions in regard to why my 620/720 set appears darker, this is because I have edited the shot not only to make the gum tree's a shade or two darker but make the 620/720 set appear to be in the later Dark Indian Red livery worn from the 1970's onwards.

Regrettably, I do not. I am trying to do so though, I just need an empty carriage. I have a heap of photos from a series 1 ComEng car (tulloch trailer seats) but no idea where they are at the moment. If I turn them up, I'll upload them and drop you a link.

Hi Peter,
I won't be doing the interiors of the V Set, someone else is going to do that. ;)
But if it were me, I'd texture it. I'm not that big on interiors, I like to be trackside anyway.
A lot of work for little gain I reckon....... cabs are an even bigger pain :(
As far as polys go, you can always make a 2 stage LOD and make the hi-res mesh really close.
That way the stairs aren't there unless you are really close up.

Cheers

thanks David, I think I may go that way as the poly count tends to climb.

Thanks Raichase, look forward to it, I'm mainly after colours, they seem to be an off white in side with blue seats. If you could get a pic of the bulkheads around the internal stairs with a view of the lower and upper decks that would be awesome.

Been working on my Queensland route lately, have made some good progress. I'm going to show some shots of a small branchline that leads through a small town and cattle yards.

Just because it's TRS and we can be un-realistic, I have used a 620-720 class railcar. Can you blame me for wanting to use that brilliant railcar though, nice work indeed Davido.

Got almost 30 screenies, will need three posts.

2197F leads a small freight train first, then 621-721 follows after.

they certainly are, as well as random running numbers all I have to do now is try and find out what the number ranges were/are and I will also do the K set, so there will be an R/L/S set , C set and a K set. I was also thinking of doing the original tulloch double decker control car. The bogies will be what are under the currently available double deckers, because I have not been able to find any drawings or clear pics of the bogies used, in fact I could not find any detailed drawings of the actual cars, except what was on the city rail site, so that is what they are modelled on, not much detail in them, had to rely on photos.

Tom

I have no idea, it's been too long since I've looked at my own stuff.

I've more or less given up on it all due to the whole real-life business, as well as not really caring anymore. I mean that politely though! Every time I think I have a window of time to work on things, something else comes up.

I'm pretty certain the matching splines should be up there. Someone else would probably remember better than I.

You might though be having problems getting them to match exactly because of the different ways light affects splines and objects?

Have fun,

James

It is in there IIRC. You'll need to fiddle a bit, and possibly do a bit of trickery with the spline heights to get it to sit right.

Sounds odd to me. I think the "Choppers" were actually the C-Sets which had some chopper control system built into them. The same control system which was then implemented into the Tangaras. I used to remember seeing the C-Sets in the candy colour scheme, but haven't seen a K-Set in it as I had never really seen them much until a few years back when they had already changed it to grey and yellow/orange. They did have it though by the looks of it from the image below.

http://railoperations.fotopic.net/p10491741.html

[Edit: My bad, the above is actually a C-Set, but the K-Set looks basically the same as the C-Set prior to it having the fiberglass frontage]

V sets 06, 44's .....don't know, I'll have to have a look at what features 09 can give me as far as dual cabs etc. go and whether it's worth re-doing the mesh and textures to achieve more detail.
Then again, I may just release them as they are for 06 and work on an 09 version later.........time will tell.

Here's a few shots taken down by the crossing :D
