Hi Pete,
This unique loco has some interesting detail; evidenced by the candle-wax staining & oil smears (midnight oil etc). Maybe some day you could be a politician. All that "midnight oil" burning etc it must have taken to produce such a fine piece of craftsmanship. :D
ok so you cheated & cleaned off most of the candle-wax & oil stains, but I know they're there!. :hehe:

I have always saved only QR screenies for my desktop pics. The current one is one of Kentith's Shorncliffe line. Davido, I must say with the quality of yours recently I am seriously torn to defecting down south. Those V set progress shots are beautiful. Could just imagine driving one of those through that gorgeous countryside, admiring the view as I clacked along. Wonderful.

I'm with Zec...I still prefer the 38 class, with a V-set passing it, at the bottom of a valley, with a C17, DD17, BB18 1/4 and an AC16 on a narrowgauge railway next door...
Now...where have I see that before...wouldn't be Zig Zag Railway...:o
Honestly though, there are some great models in the works, the 38's, V-set, 422, Z13, as well as various other bits and bobs of drool worthy ness that I don't know the class of since they are from foreign regions...;)

A couple fo questions for Ausrail8040.
Will you be releasing your Cranborne station ?
Could you release the plaform bulding and canopy separately?
They are first class and have applications in other configureations too.
Your work is very exciting.

"The late 1980’s saw the launch of the luxury train the “Queenslander” and the introduction of maroon and yellow colours. 1767 along with a 90 tonne locomotive were repainted into a scheme of maroon and yellow diagonal lines running the length of the locomotive. A feature of the scheme was a white 1970 style QR logo painted in a small, maroon box position in one of the yellow lines."

Hey mate,
Glad to see your continuing to work on your Cranbourne route.. and thankyou so much for deciding to release some of your awesome buildings early.. :)
How's your route coming along..? Are you just planning to go as far as Dandenong..?
.. SURELY there is some talented modeller out there who would consider making a hitachi or comeng to complement this route..? Seeing as the awesome Xtrap model is a tad out of place on that line.. There's so much victorian rollingstock out there but we only have one spark made by a guy overseas and somewhat edited etc here.. Believe me if i had the time and if i had of learnt how to make them years ago i would have done the entire fleet by now.
.. its the same in Model Railways, seems NO ONE anywhere has any genuine interest in making sparks into models in either format.

March 24th, 2009, 03:37 AM
Actually, I think you've got some wrong info on both sides. There is a comeng 'in the works' by me (although not a priority project at the moment). There is also a hitachi 'in the works' by another user (again, not priority as he currently has real life commitments). They will get here eventually...
As for models. There are at least 2 hitachi's being made, possibly 3... There is also at least one comeng being made. Neither released yet, but they are being done. That said, they aint cheap either...
Myself, my main interest is in earlier stuff, e.g. the taits and doggies...
If you really want a comeng, I will work on it... But it would most likely end up being payware, as I really have no true interest in it. At least not at the moment.

P Dacey, I am aiming at getting the line done to Dandenong..... eventually :) Stage 1 of the project (Cranbourne to Merinda Park) is almost done.
The second stage will be a challenge.... especially the station complex at Dandenong..... but I feel well up to the overall task (**Gulp**).
Many custom buildings and backdrops will need to be made... so stage 2 WILL take a while to complete.
I'm actually just about to start organizing the "Google satalite tiles" (for scenery placement) for stage 2....and work will commence as soon as stage 1 is released to the DLS.
I uploaded some of my content yesterday, so look out for them in the coming week. As these are my first creations, they might not be optimized the best ... polly wise (only 1 or 2 items come to mind) .....
But in saying that, I certainly have no issue running the route at very playable frames on my PC (intel dual core - 2.4Ghz (overclocked), Nvidia GTX260 (Overclocked), 4 gig Kingston HyperX ram.... which I think is a medium to high spec PC at the moment.
Zec, I would happily pay for a "payware" Comeng, Seimens or any melbourne suburban set :) ..... no pressure though ;)
Cheers!

BTW - Check your numbers Pete - Not all the CC's lasted long enough to get 13xx numbers - safe bets are 1301/07/08/13 : the first three are still extant, and 1313 was photographed during the late 50's on yass tramway duties

Zec, I'd definately pay for any melbourne suburban set if the quality of it was up there with that Xtrap..!! :)
Also thanks for letting me know about the models etc, If they're not talked about much its easy to presume nothing is happening.. its just beyond me how almost every type of model has been lovingly created by people with exceptional skills etc, yet we all seem to lack a large route variety and anything modern/ electric.. (sparks, E's, L's etc..) I think all the work you have all done is fascinating and amazing.. makes the trainz experience for those of us who either just didnt have time to learn or couldnt be bothered etc enjoy trainz so much more..! so thankyou to all of you..!!
Ausrail, Mate your work so far is the best I have ever seen to date..! Its great to see someone take an interest in modern day modelling for a change..!! :D I'd help you in any way if i could, but i never took the time to learn how to create content etc..! ( i choose to work 60+ hrs a week)

ya 1301 was painted green during the 1960's for vintage train duties - have just posted some Pics for you now http://www.pbase.com/stanb/historic
actually if they were ever otherwise green, then it would have been very early on - when they were still fitted with the original round top boilers

1301 rescues the MHG seen with 5014 earlier, unfortunately for the crew of the standard goods, the old, soon to be abandoned branch wasn't quite up to the task of bearing such a weight, luckily 1301 was available to save the day, or at least the MHG.
One must wonder what ever happened to 5014, perhaps she is still sitting in the dirt where she split the rails all those years ago...:p

From memory, not all of the locomotives in standard tuscan had the 'L7' painted on, would it be too much to ask to have the option of the Tuscan paint scheme with and without the symbol? :)

Marty,
Hope that last post is not permanent one:eek:, only for a short while. You were the first contact I had with the local community (Trainz that is ) and as such, you left a great mark. I remember our meet at Roma Street parklands for the bridge project. I was very taken with your eye for detail and hoped to be able to emulate that myself. Anyway, before this starts sounding too mushy and sentimental, I hope we will see you back after a little "holiday" with more great QR and Australian content to build.

Hey Chuffbuff,
You sound pretty low, mate!
If its a money thing, it can be remade. But if you have reached the end of your teather, don't do it on your own! Their are people out there set up to help men, these days. It used to be all about the girls. However beyond blue and many other groups have people that been there, done that. You don't have to do these things alone
Cheers

Just a quick question, I noticed a few people with the explorers and 620/720 rail cars in 2009. Well when I tried to install them they aren't working for me, It says they're there and in railwayrd they exist, but when you click on them you just get an empty track. This also applies to the endeavours as well. Any suggestions?

Spooney, for 620-720, have a look at the cab asset. It's a shell cab and has heaps of dependencies that aren't apparent when committing the railcar itself.
As for the Endeavour/Xplorer, check that you have the enginesound

Spooney, if you run TS2009 in compatibility mode the Endeavours/Xplorers/620/720's should all work fine, even though CM says they're faulty :)

LF01 does a stop at the station platform before reversing into the Preston North yard. Yes, I let Alastair drive. If anyone is going to find faults then he's the man.

LF01 Loco 1512 has a fuel stop at Preston Depot ready to continue its report tour.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/flash1771/Reportingin.jpg
Crew on LF01 pull the loco up near the Admin building at Preston Depot to report in to the Area Supervisor on track conditions.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w184/flash1771/Headingout.jpg
LF01 moves over the road crossing east of the station platform to cross to the mainline and into South Yard.
I am hopeful of finding out when the tour loco is running to be able to get more pics. Will have to keep the fingers crossed for the moment and keep my ear to the radio scanner.

Spooney, DavidO and others,
For anyone having problems getting DavidO locos and rolling stock working in TS2009 native mode. I got all working by using PEV's excellent programs, Texture to TGA(fixes texture.txt problems) and PM2IM which I used the IM part that fixed up the 82 class and MHG brake van that had texture.txt files that could not be loaded thus kept these two as red flagged. All items work properly in native mode(I was stumped with these two for ages until I gave it a try). This method also fixed up vinnybarbs Indian Pacific cars(bogey) and his aussie buildings. Doesn't work with ad602000 rolling stock.
Thank you to PEV for his efforts in finding a work around for TS2009 errors stopping good items from working.

Bit of a dilemma on the section of the CityRail network area i'm trying to build. I can't quite figure out which track I want to use, and or which would fit best. Much of the 25 odd kilometres or so (Macarthur - Cabramatta) on the down is using A, whilst the up is using C. I've discovered B since installing 2006 and have made a slight alteration to the colour.
Anyone have any thoughts of what they thing would look best? Also, it'd be nice to know what track other users are using for their sections of the Cityrail network.

Tom I had to cop it both ways as a Wodonga f/man! Out of Dynon hostler end first over to Spencer Street Sit on the flyover awaiting the SOP shunt sit on the cars in 2A road and wait for the Motor rail and shunt No 1 plat when clear. Then on arrival at Albury hang around for NSW shunters, who always loved to block us in loco forcing us into long hours. If we already had long hours hostlers end back to Wodonga, after blocking main line and forcing signalman to send us back to South end. The South end Signalmen were gentlemen and proud signallers, as they dealt with Victoria all the time. Our signalmen could give them hell when the Albury pilot worked on the Victoria side.
Running the SOP or the Aurora hostlers end to Albury and Hostlers end back to Dynon. if relief was not available.
Did that for my first 5 years on job. No wonder I am deaf!
Went to a fortune teller once to humour my wife :hehe: This gypsy woman wanted to read the bumps on my head. Wife said go ahead! She got to the back of my head and said "Oh you are a train driver! You will have a long life, retire and move to the Country!"
As I was driving home I wondered how she could know about me driving trains!! But of course when you spent lots of time hostler end first in a S Class, you always had bumps on your head The Dynamic fans were so low you had to sit forward because your head would be hitting the steel frame on every bump in the track :hehe:
The odd controller in the hostler end was apparently recovered from the St Kilda Railways trams as they were scrapped. They were a much smaller controller than those used in the W Class MMTB trams. Their self lapping brake valves found their way into Y Class Diesels as part of the magnificent VR workaround when the State Government continually unfunded the Railways. Read the history of the Y class. THe Gov wanted the Railways to scrap steam. A bare minimum of 75 Y Class did the job. However the initial order was only 25 then 50 and 25 more were built when the VR recycycled Steamengine brake valves, tram self lappers, and ERD Electric train bogies, air cylinders and electricals to build one of the best engines VR ever owned.

Well, I have done the track between Ipswich and Grandchester and about to start the little liverpool range over to Laidley.
I havent put many buildings in due to just getting the track done first.

I would to say a very special thanks to Mark for letting me use his 2000 class Railmotors and his other rollingstock, they fit the part on the Toowoomba line

LF01 passes the Kelso Picnic Ground giving the picnicers there a blast from the klaxon and a wave as they go by. This has long been a popular spot for train buffs and spotters as it has access to the local station and is close to the line as well as being a great all round picnic spot for anyone familiar with the local area.

I haven't managed to play with Ad602000's LCH/CCH's yet - I hope he does the same with the private owner's (Alphbet's) as well - would be nice (most of the shots I have of the SMR seem to be using PO's rather than govt (LCH/CCH) hoppers.
Interestingly enough when the 1992 bushfires hit Richmond main colliery, it was the govt hoppers that seem most flamable - they lost a couple of CCH's ( ignited as soon as an ember or flame went close) but the non airs only recievd minimal damage ( mostly burned bottom doors)
BTW there are a few shots of the SMR uploaded on my pbase site - I've also plenty others mainly from 3246's farewell tour (to Cessnock) and a tour in 1968 to Hepburn

hmmm.... something else used on the SMR... 29 class p'rhaps.. (that wouldn't be hard since its basically a 30 class)... perhaps the tulloch railcars....
or perhaps something simple - a SMR CHG (basically a NSWGR CHG with different lettering)?
or have you gone crazy with non airs and are trying to mimick the endless variety of them ... S's (6 ton), M's (8ton), L's (10ton) & LL's (12ton's) , wooden framed ones..., steel framed ones, ones with brake levers.. ones with brake wheels...even a couple with air brakes (Muswellbrook?) ... dont even start on axle boxes and about 40 or 50 different collieries for the reskinners! ya - you could go mad with them ( I had a friend some years ago who used to work at goninans - would spend his lunchtime's photocopying blue prints - I think we got about 30 different varieties from him .. and that was only one manufacturer! )
anyways am looking forward to the industry enable non airs.. and of course your mystery creation :)

Well, you asked for it.. Over the last four weeks or so I have been working on this.. it is a ficticious NSW themed route,.. so far it has 5 stations, a coal mine, power station and an oil refinery.
Looking at some of the stuff produced by messors axe and davido they seem to pale in comparison, but here we go anyway!

http://home.spin.net.au/spooney/05.jpg
Chugging along, about to join the Main Northern line.
http://home.spin.net.au/spooney/06.jpg
Meanwhile a 442 and two 48's haul some petrochemicals through Amandavale yard and on to the oil refinery.
http://home.spin.net.au/spooney/07.jpg
Heading south away from Amandavale crossing over to head to the oil refinery.
http://home.spin.net.au/spooney/08.jpg
Meanwhile another 442 brings the passengers North from the city..
http://home.spin.net.au/spooney/09.jpg
...and 9009 leads another two 90's over a warren truss heading away from Alexander Hills Coal Mine.
http://home.spin.net.au/spooney/10.jpg
The 442 heads north after crossing the Amandavale wetlands.
http://home.spin.net.au/spooney/11.jpg
and rolls into Amandavale station.
Is it just me or are there no cars on my roads? How does one do this??

April 5th, 2009, 03:32 PM
you scan it, select the area(crop) you want to use in psp or photoshop or like, then you create a plane in gmax of the right height by length dimensions and then apply the blueprint you prepared to the plane and basically build the object (building, train etc ) around the blueprint, you may have a blueprint or drawing that gives end and top vies as well, so you apply them to different planes as above and place them in the right axis. hope that helps

It seems like, we have less than a dozen posters since 2009 came out, and very few using 2009. However having said that, the quality of the posts are extraordinary!
I am looking forward to some South Australian content and some West Australian stuff.
Perhaps some of our busy content creators might spend some time building some more encouragement for our "left out States" A small amount of encouragement 5 years ago, from NSW and USA, led to at least another dozen Victorian content creators building stuff for us :hehe:
As I have rebuilt Trainz Planz anyone who has Tasmanian, South Australian or West Australian good drawings should send them to me so I can post them up for others to get enthused about too. (Trainz Planz can be accessed by clicking on the sig. below)

the SMR 15 is starting to look good there Pete. BTW the main feature that identified the 15's from a standard NSWGR 30 calss was teh addition of some additional air resevoirs on the front foot plate - aparently the air brakes needed some help with non- braked trains. its just visible in this shot http://www.pbase.com/image/110945994 If my memory serves me right these were also fitted to 3013 when it was bought by Hepburn colliery (i'll take a look later _ I've a nice stduy of 3013 at hexham somewhere) and I may have some shots of SMR15 which shows it too

3013 was actually bought by Hepburn colliery in 1967 to replace an unsuccessful import ( a stephenson's machine imported in 1955) . When Hepburn closed it was then transfered to the RVR at Hexham and ultimatley into private presvervation. Like the SMR 15's ( and the stephenson engine) it was fitted with two extra air reservoirs on the footplate either side of the smokebox to provide sufficient braking when running non air trains
The SMR' 15 class was introduced in 1912 with the arrival of numbers 15 & 16. a third, numer 29 was introduced in 1929. Intended for local passenger trains they replaced some earlier types including an ex NSWGR CC (Z13 ) class. The SMR lost its passenger cars to a carriage shed fire, and handed the Cessnock passenger services to the NSWGR who maintained these until the early 60's (it might be noted that a couple of 30 class tanks were modified with extended bunkers and had their boiler pressure raised to 180psi for the cessnock run). When the NSWGR ceased this operation, the SMR introduced a railcar service, but this service was abandoned after a couple of years.
In the meantime the 15's soldiered on, being the primary power for the local pickup good services, and assisting the 10's on the coal runs until the mid 60's when they too were set aside. one (# 16) was stripped of its boiler fairly early on, and its remains, togther with 15 and 29 were scrapped in 1973

Hi all,
A bit of an update on the MGFH. Progress has been a bit slow due to my busy life outside of trainz :p !

Seeing how things go, I might have a go at animated roof and dumping hatches, although I'm not sure which way the hatches operate as I've never actually seen the hoppers loading/unloading in real life  !
Cheers,
Matt :)

ok, tanks fitted on the 15 class, I have applied superscript to the 30 class for the running numbers and have limited this to the class members that were tank locos throughout their service life, so you will be able to place in excess of 60 locos on a route without a duplicate.
Anthony, no I haven't sent it yet but will tonight. I only managed to find it yesterday.
cheers
