Every time I get a little bit done, I have a muck around and generally waste time... here are some examples...
http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/9554/screen013uk0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Next time that farm features in a screenie, expect it to be completed.

Thanks,

Thankyou for your kind words. See I can't tell that it looks accurate.. I just see problems:P BTW, Scott your right. Lesley and anyone else who might want to know... to make your routes look just that little bit better and realistic, theres one technique that I've discovered.. shading. Say under that bridge of Lesleys, I'd look directly over the of it and use a dark colour and run underneith it. Or under a patch of trees, find a dark green (or several) and colour in the ground under the trees.Hope this helps...Daniel

Nice shots there Axe. Looking very rustic & realistic.
Bill what a great selection your giving us!. terrific!.
Would you please consider making a small-town weighbridge,
circa 1950's
or earlier?.
Craig I got up this morning & the bananas were untouched,
in fact they're almost untouchable!. So I guess he's not been here.
Methinks I'll relegate them to the freezer for inclusion in the next banana-walnut cake.

Nice trucks but the high angle photos show the tyers are wrong - you need to put a line down the middle of your texture so they look like there is 2 tyers most dollys and road train tyers are dual wheels . The super single tyers used on a lot of trailers these day are quite a bit narrower.
Same goes for the drive axels of the truck -
Willem2

Hi bearcat245,

Of course you can always use the build-in trucks (the middle one) as shown

but when you are doing a route using DEM it can be challenging to use what you really want to use
believe me i wanted use those stations, but because of no height adjustments with said stations they just sometimes don't sit properly in the area they should be.
now before everone says why don't you flatten the ground,it causes alot other problems e.g. grades get out of wack, cuttings appear where you don't want them and banks, and generally it dosn't look good.
my opinion anyway
anyhow enough of my waffling for now

How come youve used the same image of a C17 to represent 45 and 705?
Also ARHS never ran a tour to Pinkenba in January this year as mentioned in a previous post, could you be thinking of QR Heritage operated "Steam Train Sunday" which runs March - November?

I will answer two of spacemarine88's question's
- My QGR C17's MVHR QR C17 No.45 Was At The Same Spot 2 Hours Eailer When I Took The Screenshot & When I Took The Later Screenshot of QGR C17 No. 705 It Was 2 Hours Later At The Same Spot. The Locomotives Have The Same Mesh, Assets But They Have Different QR Running Numbers & Headboard Destinations Like No.45 Has Imbil And No.705 Has ESK.
-Sorry About The Error's On My Post About Riverboat Whistles, It Was Ment To Be 18th Of May 2008 Not 18th Of Januray 2008, It Was Ment To Also Be QR Heritage Running A Steam Trip To Pinkenba & I Will Think Before I Post, Sorry!!.

Hmmm, started on a Queensland route. Three boards have been laid so far, the town of Grandchester (doesn't resemble the QLD town one iota) has been constructed.
A fruit and veg siding that serves the local growers, a disused siding that was cut off in the late 60s from the main line are some of the features.
A few screenies with a DH hauling a small freight consist away from the Fruit and Veg siding.

Hi Colhad,
Looking really nice. Those houses look the part too, eh. :)
And the sad touch of that tree smack bang in the centre of the old siding brings to mind a certain similarly-sized tree immediately south of an old crossing in Finley NSW.
Right smack bang in the centre of the once very much alive Narrandera_Tocumwal branch line.

AC16 218A made its first run under its own power since 1969 (39 years), on the 3rd September 2008.
This locomotive as of 22nd November 2008 was not officially an operations locomotive and was still under workshop care and authority being tested and run on limited services, on this particular day, BB18 1/4 1072 was also in steam due to concerns early in the day which were resolved resulting in both locomotive being able to lead the last leg of the 3pm passenger service of the day.
AC16 218A has also been renumbered 218 for operational purposes.
Her Maiden Voyage however was a day over 2 months ago now Trainz89 so you are a bit late.

I think someone has read my mind, I was about to post here if anyone can remember the name/s of Car Carriers for rail transport :hehe: .
I know I had one at least and not sure about the others, a search of my content yesterday did not find any.
EDIT: I have found some Rail Car Carriers now. Are the ones shown above on the DLS?
These look great though and the Road Transport ones look excellent, great work Bill.
While I am here I thought I would post about something else I am looking for, well a couple of things. With all our great Aussie layouts for different time periods I thought we would have road signs that are pre metric. What I have been looking for over the past weeks are the road signs for speed. There used to be one for "35 mph" which was a black circle with "35" in the center for going through a town, I think. The other sign was a black circle with a diagonal line through it meaning "go as fast as you like" :hehe: when leaving a town.
The other thing I have been looking for is a "silent cop" which was a little yellow thing that was placed in the center of a road intersection making cars slow down (sometimes) and go around them.
Any help on these would be much appreciated.

Very true, Zec.
From an artistic view point, I think it's rubbish. But I might throw it out there as is for the sake of it when I get back to Australia.
I'll be back this Monday. It will only be a brief visit but I might see about getting it released as is. Most likely though, I'll be caught up in real life. I have too much to do.

Colhad, as usual, you never cease to amaze with your attention to detail and realism with your layouts. No matter how big or small, everything is always as close to real life as possible, and looks fantastic. If I could build layouts half as good as you can, I'd be a happy man - I especially struggle with texturing realistically, which you've seemingly perfected.
3830, always love your screenies of that familiar-yet-far-away area north of Maitland. Only been that way twice, but damned if it's not a great section of track. Love your screenies of The Hunter, I look forward to more :D

Probably not the correct forum, but seeing mostly aussies gather here, bigger audience. As the last part of the standard goods series, I have been trying unsuccessfully to get working changeable running numbers to work on the 50 class for the better part of 18 months(one of those unexplainable mysteries of trainz). I have dealt with this long enough and made the loco 5069. I have also made a wampu tender to go with it.
My question is, Is the preference to have the same number on the tender as the loco? or, Have no number at all and be able to use the wampu tender with other locos? I await the debate:)

Hi Pete,
Just a possible suggestion (I have no idea if this can be done).
How about an attachment point on the tender, for a sign?.
Then do a series of differently-numbered signs?.
It would I guess then mean that whoever wants a particular numbered sign can change it in the config file (TRS2004), but what happens in TS2009 etc??.

issues, they wont work, when I export the loco the place holder textures are visible, I have the font set to one I have the alpha number folder named the same as the asset file name with only one font in it, and no matter what I try, it wont work, dont know how many times I have started them from scratch snd I cant see any faults in the export files happy to zip it up if you want to look at it. After 18 months of looking at it I am probably not seeing the forest for the trees.

Pete been thinking about your running number issue ib your config do you have the lines
fonts 3
asset-filename "QR_C17" <-------- asset filename is important without it no numbers hope this helps

Q2 What names have you given the font numbers in the fonts folder?

December 21st, 2008, 03:34 AM
its a single font ,so font = 1
the asset file name is d50cl , so the folder for the numbers is d50cl_alpha_numbers
I'm exporting to 04
and the font name is alphanumber_0 through to alphanumber_9 inclusive
running numbers in config is empty
the whole set up is identical to several other locos which operate perfectly ok

As I've done for the last 4 years, ZecRail is again proud to announce this year's Christmas locomotive. This year, ZecRail has used one of their T class locomotives, decked out in 481 lights, with custom headboards, and red number boards, and renumbered to Tc2512...
Today saw the first non testing run of the locomotive, on a return goods working...

In 30C heat, Tc2512 coasts into Dhura Oon with a down goods, with Ts2009 assisting.

Tall Order you have there Matt...you might be stepping on some estabilished claims here ..."Ipswich Line" being done by "Ghostryder"
"Ipswich Workshops" on DLS by "Willem2"
"Ipswich to Rosewood Rail Museum by Greg Cash"
"Ipswich to Toowoomba then on to Dalby" are being tinkered on by a few useing dem or sculpured by hand I myself have wanted to bring the Bris Valley line to Trainz for many years a task much bigger than I ever imagioned
For the inferstructure stations wagons loco's historic landmarks all have to be created ...so if you dont know gmax or some other modeling program you better start now .....took me about 3 years to become reasonable at it all.
Not trying to put you down Matt have a go if you wish but "Beware the Historical Critics"...... I myself will be porting the DEM "Jerkers" into 09 in the new year I think the 5 meter grid might finaly make it possible to get the terrain more life like It has taken me years to develop the inferstructure for the line ..most unrealeased of late I have had a bit of burnout but are looking forward to getting back into it ..

I don't know if this interests anybody. After finally returning (thankfully temporarily) to this country, I have hooked up my old hard drive to my computer.
What does this mean?
I finally have the entire Blue Mountains line which I can finally work on and get to 09 standards. DEM Terrain done, mainline done, a good few unique building meshes done for the towns, which I worked on whilst living in Amsterdam. Needs a lot of work, but the hard parts are done.
The Zig Zag railway - Basically done with exception of some extremely important unique assets, although much of that is already done. Might give up on this and just include it in the BM line.
I have all of the locos that I was working on before I left Australia - many nearly finished and were already designed with 09 features in mind. Proper UVW maps, Bumps, etc. All have no enginespecs started, however. These, from memory comprise of:
C30 class - nearly complete. I think I recall doing the basic cab mesh, will look into that. Been working ingame for ages.
C32 class - about 20% done? Waiting to finish other similar locos first to steal parts off.
C35 class - More or less complete, including cab.
C36 class - Had an old one about half finished, with a newer version less so. Might leave this one for a while. I hear rumours about someone else making a nice new one?
C38 class - Just about done. Yet another one to throw out there. Cab mesh complete.
D50 - Complete, cab mesh textured and finished, needs functions. Will likely re-texture though. After she's done, I'll probably make small mods to get the rest of the standard goods locos finished to the same standard.
D57 - Model just about finished, UVW'd, textured and animated. Cab mesh started, I think I have enough reference photos for the cab.
SMR 10 class - Probably restart this. Needs a lot of work. Once the D50 and C32 are done and dusted, I'll be able to use many parts from them to get this one done.
QR DD17 - has been finished for ages, just needs polishing touches and cab needs some huge fixes. New 04/06 sounds have been done and work for her.
QR BB18 1/4 - Mesh about 40% done. Almost no detail work, but the main bits finished. Not exactly a priority.
A bunch of NSWGR rolling stock, a carriage set (forget which one) and private non-air hoppers. Pretty sure most meshes are a fair way through but incomplete.
Also other random stuff. Some UK steamers that will probably never see the light of day. I've likely forgotten much. What a mess it all is.
I'm still waiting for roughly 400 gb of data to copy over, which includes all sorts of info, meshes, diagrams, and reference photos.
Looking back on this post, it may appear that I am bragging about all of this. The reality is that not much of it will appear for a very long time, but it is all the sum of about five years work; many thousands of hours. Also, I get a good few PMs and see the odd forum posts asking or demanding updates on my work.
Here. Eat. Good kiddies.
If people want to see shots, dig up old out of date forum posts. I'll probably show more as I get back into these and work out where I left off exactly. First step will be to remember exactly what needs doing, prioritise, and then work on a design document for it all.
Just gotta sit back and wait for the next few hours while all of this copies over!
When I get out of this bloody nanny-state province of Southern USA again, I will take it all with me to work on. Hopefully no more than two months in this country.
So glad to have all of this back, and that the old hard drive is still alive.
Peace all. I hope y'all had a great Isaac Newton day.
