Hi 3830,

I have the following 4 "unknown items" missing;
47439:25217 (Sirgibby)
85701:24168 (Bald)
85701:24169 (Bald)

If you can point me in the right direction to obtain these that would be appreciated.

Hi Matt,

yes you can by changing the font value in the con fig file.

I use 0.3 on my Hotels, I tried 0.1 that makes it to small so trail and error

will most probably work.

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/2525/fontpu9.jpg

The lower the number the smaller it gets.

I believe that you can change the actual font as well in TC3. Wasn't possible in pre TC versions (don't know about TC1/2).

Thanks Bill, but I'm refering to the actual font itself :) . The countrylink font is a serif font while the gmax/trainz font is a san-serif font.

Thanks Zec, I'll try it in TC :) !

a few depots where the garrets were based did have turntables large enough to turn them between runs . Broadmeadow Werris Creek and Enfield i think had the larger turntables for the garretts. elsewhere if they needed turning they were turned on wyes/triangles.

Not all of them had controls for running bi-di, it just depended which loco's you were running.

QR used wyes to turn their locos 99% of the time. Only the major depots (Rockhampton, Manly, Willowburn, etc) had turntables. In Rockhamptons' case, there were 2! (Although the fact that the depot itself was used to house ALL of the Beyer-Garratt fleet in the fifties - not sure of the total number of locos)

Well all this QR Talk has got me in a flutter ..I have been hanging out for TC3 and the new steam enhancements ect but you need TOY's by the look of it I hav'nt much time at the moment but I have decided to release the QR C17...& the Evens class cars and a few other updates along the way .....stay tuned
C17 uploaded tonight ......features changeable destonation boards and engine numbers Hot&Cold select in suveyor the Auran Fireman works in DCC Mode shovels waves ect the scripting was done by Peter Dehnert and insperation and hints from Marl TFX by LieleboSbrat all i all it took a long time to create and its yours for FREE!... the Tender features animated Coal Load and is fully supported by my QR Watertanks and Coalstage .............More steam later
The Evens Cars a set of 3 a passanger car and 2 types of BLV/Guards vans all passanger enabled with animated doors the Guards vans feature the Auran Fireman hacked into a waving Guard ......once again scripts by Peter Dehnert ...........................
More to come as I get time ..

Hi Guys, do you know if anything has happend with these C17's yet...
I know dreddman had some trouble and said he would give them to someone else to host.

Does anyone know anything about them? :)

Hi everyone, while sending and email to Noel (nbrettoner) about a layout we are working on that we need to build something or have some make it for us in Gmax, I realised that others may also like something like this.

What we are after is an irrigation canal, while this is easy to "build", the size (and mainly width) is not. Noel and I remember the days when we saw such canals and they where not so wide, the limitations of TRS are our problems. From my memory many of them where about 5-6ft wide and had an edge about 3-4 high on them so that the canal was higher then the surrounding land. This meant it was easy to water, make a hole in the embankment :hehe: or open a gate. The other thing that would be really handy for our layout is the irrigation wheel (image below) that was used to "force" the flow of the water around a farm or area.

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/8013/wheelju4.th.jpg (http://img516.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wheelju4.jpg)

The area we are talking about are the Irrigation areas of south west of NSW. If anyone can offer any suggestions or help us it would be much appreciated.

I did a small set of narrow ditch splines not too long ago, would they be useful? Look on the DLS under 'Irrigation ditch' & TRS2004. They have fairly wide sides to help hide dropping the terrain underneath to make room for the ditch.

Hi Curtis,

I've been experimenting with one of yours that has a fairly light sandy/grass texture. The particular problem I'm faced with, is that the land these are used on is totally flat basically. If the side 'flanges' of yours angled down at say 5 to 10 degrees, I could more easily blend the edges into the ground, & thus have the channel banks just slightly elevated above ground level.
Yours would be great secondary feeders off a main canal actually. :)

This is the biggest reason why I think they should go back to the Blue Livery, it was more Australian like, and any railfan could instantly recognise that it was QR....... At least they didn't paint the 1720's in the new livery, there's a few floating around my area with the old blue livery.

psycho_aussie

To those of you who think the 2800 is ugly, go look at QR's new 3700-3800 classes. Bricks on wheels...

Bruce, the 2800 will come out in 3ft 6in, again... They will be using a slightly upgraded version of my NG 2800 bogey.

chuffbuff, I am aware of how bright the yellow is, and it does need toning down, but I also have some weathering to apply to the loco as well, which will help tone the yellow down a bit. I also have a bit more detail to put into both the QRN and QR 2800 liveries, so they won't be available for a month or so...

@2001. Caught up to a FA Train consisting of some empty container flats as well as some empty VHAY and VHGF hoppers heading for Waubra. Up the front was G511, S307 and T371 all still in V/Line Livery (A rare sight):
http://www.victrainz.com.au/tommyg/Trainz/Screenshots%2020-8-08/WL-GP-1.jpg

We then drove to Ballarat Racecourse to find T378 with a WCR Special sitting at the Platform:

A view from the rear:

Here we see the FA Train proceeding around the corner whilst the special gets ready to depart:

Don't know how this shot was taken :p:

OK, a question that I may know the answer to but thought I would get some opinions on it.

Noel (nbrettoner) and I are working on a layout that covers a disused line from Narrandera to Tocumwal and it is set around the 1940's to 1950's. At Tocumwal there was the change over of tracks from Standard Gauge (NSW) to Broad Gauge (Victoria). Our layout is coving the NSW part but we are still putting in the Victorian side for the Tocumwal Yards and using Portals on the Victorian side of the Murray River.

The amount of Victorian line is not much, just at Tocumwal so the question is basically should we have Broad Gauge track for the Victorian part of the yard? Then if we do, is there enough Rolling Stock including Locos, Livestock and Grain etc that are Broad Gauge. If we go this way, are there any suggestions on Broad Gauge tracks we could use.

My initial thought is to use Standard Gauge for both, but with different tracks for the Victorian tracks and the NSW tracks. Noel thinks the use of Broad Gauge may be better and he may be right, considering any Victorian Rolling Stock would show the Victorian Logo's for much of the Stock.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Craig (and Noel)

P.S. This may have been covered before in this thread but I am afraid 222 pages is a lot of reading :D:D:D

Thebigman,
Downloaded your items and they are certainly coming in handy on my current layout. Keep up the good work.

On another note: Does anyone know where I can get hold of a gated siding. I have one already with a timber gate, but I was looking more for a wire fence type gated siding that opens as the train approaches and then closes when it has gone past.

Warren.

It's certainly a shame, as what I and others have seen from them, they would be sorely missed. We can only hope that some content might filter down onto the DLS for the earlier versions, or that they might release as payware for the earlier versions so that their efforts don't go to waste.

I've got some 'VR' tracks in the 'works' at the moment. At this stage, I need to do a major re-think of them (I'm getting lost with them :( ). They come in BG, SG, and 'dual gauge' (only has the inner rail for SG, and a 'plane' to line up with the other rail). Still a while away though...

May I ask what the 'time frame' for the layout is at this stage? As I can possibly send the current beta to you :)

Zec
Zec, one of the main features of our layout will be a US WWII Airfield at Tocumwal and Noel has been researching that for 4 years. This will be the most detailed part plus some of the NSW track that is SG. For the moment I can use 2 SG tracks and later convert the Vic SG track to BG, so that is not a problem ...... easy to do with 2004 and TO.

In a way I am thinking of the Rolling Stock more and as I have not thought much about this, that to me may be the main reason on which way we choose to go. If there are a few Loco's and other BG Rolling Stock we can use then BG would be best.

So to answer your question, there is heaps of time. If you wish a beta tester then we could do this for you, and it would be easier if you could suggest some Rolling Stock to test with. I am working on the yards now and it will be easy to add an extra track for testing. Also, I think there is a small amount of dual gauge as well, I will look at this but from memory not much really. I did look on the Vic site but got a little "lost" so thought of asking here first.

Many thanks,

Craig

cjlear made some S and B classes on BG (and SG).

I've released the QB, ALX, M, MB, WT, T, and KMQ on BG (and SG). I've also released some BG bogies ('XSC' roller bearing bogies, and a couple of 'bogies' for 4 wheel wagons, there is a 'compatible' one that will work under most of ad602000's rolling stock).

I've currently got a Z van under construction that will have a BG version.

My 'W' type cars are also BG/SG (via script).

I've also got a BG version of my V class steamer, and my K class is BG/SG (via script). I've also got a low nose T class under construction that is BG/SG (via script).

And of course, there is always more under construction :) :P

I'll see how this weekend goes... May actually get the 'TRS04' version of the track finished! :P

Hi Warren,

There's some about. One type (Euopean?, not English language) is a steel sliding gateway in various colours.
Others are at 45 degree angle to the track, as well as 90 degrees.

Any suggestions folks??

Hi Anthony & Zec,

Thanks for your input on our little project.
We really appreciate all the generous assistance we've had & continue to get on this.

Yes there's some dual gauge at Tocumwal yard. In fact Tocumwal was I
where some historic "3rd rail" testing was conducted, publicly.

It will be great to have the three rail types (NSW/VIC & 3rd-rail).
A tremendous amount of stuff has gone through Tocumwal over the years,
& during the war effort it was one of the most strategic places in the Southern Hemisphere.

well, the 'common rail' is definitely in the pack. Just a little difficult to setup... Namely you only have one rail on the 'DG' set, and then a 'plane' to indicate where the common rail needs to sit. I'll look at some 'spacer' scenery pieces to help with the setup though... :)

I'll do a search & see if I can find them.

It will be quite a while before our route is complete. We may however
organise a place/thread, where we can have updates etc, & share a bit about it. I'll have a chat to Craig. We have several people now helping us. Even non-Trainzers!.

3126 polys per 16m section, with an 8 poly 'low mesh'. Both meshes use two textures (one of the rails, sleepers, sleeper plates, and spikes and one for the ballast on the 'high' mesh, and one for the rails and one for the 'ballast' on the low mesh). Will also come in 8m, 4m, 2m, and 1m lengths. And in BG, SG, DG, and a few others :)

Hi Noel!

There should be a slight slope already. What I did on my route was to drop the ground level a little bit under the ditch - the flanges should be wide enough to cover the dip. I'll post the GMAX files this evening so you can adjust them if you feel like it, or to create a 'T' connection to your main canal.
I also have a couple of track bridges sitting on my hard drive to cross these ditches; if you'd like I can adjust the track and ground texture to match your route?
These bridges would also double as cattle guards (I actually used cattle guard plans for them...)

I have been running your route for last three hours.
It has probably given me more pleasure than any other route I have used in the last 12 months.
Your attention to detail is very, very good :)

Even the tight curves are so well detailed, that you are looking at the cutting or the fields of something else.
I could find no errors! The track sits down on the ground, as do the roads.
The track work is fantastic. Nice large radius points everywhere, not toy train No 4's which is the biggest error in most layouts.
This layout is eye-candy and I recommend it without reservation (not even going to talk about the gauge here either)

I forgot to mention, the route is not prototypical, it is still fictional. Please don't expect it to look like Wyreema. I have very few pics to go by so I'll just say that I'm making a fictional QR route.

Two more shots from my latest route. These are of the station at Wyrooma. Now the proper town name is Wyreema, but cos it's fictional and it won't be exactly Wyreema, I just rename it Wyrooma.:p

Just a Freelance version with no real intent of being 100% right regarding scenery. Will post pictures from time-to-time whenever I do something to make it a little better.

Its been a while since I posted anything here - mostly for lack of anything worthy, considering the quality that's just emerged, but here goes.

A little something I've started tinkering with, a fictional branchline, barely holding back the weeds and small shrubs that are encroaching on the line, and the old timber trestle still stands, but the days of this branchline are surely numbered.

After shunting, T377 is seen passing the newly installed point indicator at the down end of the yard.

The year is the 67 and the remaining few Garrats have been put onto Coal duty's on the short north. Here we see 6042 and 6023 hauling(with much difficulty ) a 1200 ton coalie up Photobank as its know by the local trainspotting community.

http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/9764/screen067uz9.jpg

40 years later just 100 metres down the line we see a regular 80+ coal train lead by three 90 classes drift downgrade as the Northern Tablelands Exploder flies past.

http://img362.imageshack.us/img362/7494/screen0688sm3.jpg

If only the trains were 10 minutes late ( Like every other time ) i would of gotton a great sunset photo with the light coming through the tree's.

Ok guys maybe you can help me here, I know that some of my computer hardware is reasonably old, well actually most of it :hehe: . For me most of it is doing a reasonable job, in games and Trainz, and other software.

However on the forum I have seen a problem (I think it is a problem) and I am using the above screenshots as an example. Both of them to me look very dark, in fact the second one is almost so dark that I can hardly see anything. I can make out the trains but the scenery is to dark. On other screenshots (in other threads) I can see quite well, so I am not sure if there is a problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

You will notice a big difference, Craig.
My new machine has given me a very big jump in performance. But don't leave it too long as the Aussie dollar is falling, ram prices are very low ($150 for 4 gig) and the intel quad 4 chips are very cheap just now.
I got my 22 inch monitor for $295, and although it is not a big brand "Hardly Normal" gave it a three year warranty for me. My IT guy tells me you can get a good computer today with 19" LCD under $1000. An upgrade to a trainz winning graphics card less than $200 extra.
He said this $1200 machine should cost $2000 in the next 6 months or so, as our dollar falls back and the Chinese revalue their currency about 25% This has to happen because they cannot pay their mineral resource debts to Countries like Australia.
Might be a good time to take "Hardlies" interest free deal (100 months!! on TV last night) :hehe:

That's a good thought Rod, many thanks. My money in Term deposit is due in November and then in early March. I may keep some of it now and start working on a new computer. As I said mine is quite old (but still working OK), however I do need to upgrade and I think the difference will be quite amazing. I had my current computer built with TRS2004 in mind, that should give you an idea how old it is, but when I did the difference was amazing.

The only thing I will try not to do is not have Vista installed, use my copy of XP if I can.

I've released quite a few routes, alas, no longer for TRS2004, only for TRS2006. I have quite a few 'earlier' (04 and before) routes on the DLS, but I'm ashamed of many of them, as truth be told, I didn't know anywhere near as much as I do now - and a lot of my earlier routes are, to be honest, not great :)

*edit* The route I'm currently working on, a lot of the 'preliminary' work was by Colhad, but he has given me permission to expand the route and do with it as I will, so I'm hoping I'll be able to do as good a job on it, as I possibly can, to do Colhad honor for allowing me to take up the reins on this wonderful route.

Indeed, with Colhad's blessing, I've relaid the track, added signals (DTC block limit boards), added another 10km of track, changed some scenery around and am doing my utmost, to stay loyal to what Colhad gave me to start with (hence, using same buildings in other towns, just relocating them/altering their position/facing, etc), and so on, so it's not a 'mirror' of the last town, and so on. It is my hope, to one day release this route, which will use only content on the Auran Download Station, or built-in.

Might be a good time to take "Hardlies" interest free deal

Its never a good time to do that, the only safe way to do that is to pay at least double the monthly payment they suggest and dont miss a payment. The reason why they dont charge interest is twofold, so they can slug you with monthly account"charges" and then they hope you dont finish paying within the interest free period, becaue then they charge you interest on the TOTAL initial amount from th time you INITIALLY took out the loan and slug you with that so it takes three times the time to pay it of, and hey if you cant manage that, they then offer to refinance what you owe at an affordable 28% interest. No I havent been stung but I love to read the fine print.

Hi Pete,

Thank you for being a fine print reader!.
You do an excellent job, for which we all should be most thankful.
It all looks so 'tempting', untill the truth is told.

My new computor came with Vista preinstalled and HP tried to tell me XP was virtually impossible to install. got the ver and info on chipset, sound card off the web, downloaded onto a cd,installed new hard drive, loaded XP, installed drivers from CD and all is well. Everything works fine and it sure beats Vista from my point of view.

"The only thing I will try not to do is not have Vista installed, use my copy of XP if I can."

Thanks pete, I am very much aware of this "trap". I have seen on a number of occasions where people have ended up paying much, much more for the item then it was initially due to the interest they charge and when it is dated from. I also remember on A Current Affair Gerry Harvey (Boss/Owner of Harvey Norman) saying this was a trap and people should READ the fine print.

I think I would rather wait for my Term Deposit and move my purchasing ahead a few months ..... actually it could be my Christmas Present  :Y:

Was hanging around Sometown station today to get some photos when the guard offered me a van ride... Of course, I took up the offer. I must say that the seats in the cupola of a guards van are very uncomfortable...

After leaving Sometown, I took this photo looking back into the yard.

Whilst in Someforrest, I took this photo, showing the other cupola seat, the handbrake, emergency brake tap, and brake pressure gauge.

http://www.victrainz.com.au/s301/stuff/images/TC3/guards-van-ride-03.jpg
As we entered the cutting leading up to Some River bridge, I snapped this photo. Apparently Z526 was being moved for display at some fair or something.

Another shot looking out the back, this time looking over Some River bridge.

The final photo I took was this one, rounding one of the many bends along the line. The two T class' sounded mighty fine hauling the train up to 25MPH, and then 40MPH after exiting the bend...

Muliebuck

That's the QR 1720 class loco by the use sonne. It has some minor issues with some textures/etc in CMP - but as for the bogeys showing through the buffers, etc - I had that problem with the 1600 class and the 1270 class loco's. Pikkabird updated his NSWGR_A_Bogey and NSWGR_B_Bogey, which the 1600/1270's list as a dependency - however, CMP (and I suspect Trainz Helper) will only 'see' the newer versions, and download those. I honestly don't recall the bogeys on the 1720 class having the bogey through the buffers problem, but I'll endeavour to look at it, and see what I did, if indeed they are faulty, what I did to fix it, and try to let you know ASAP.
