In TRS2006 there is the Modula City Demo, in there, there is a rule which compiles on route into a single command. "Drive Tram route 5" and that would make the train run the line, making local stops.

I'd like that for my route, as it would save me from having to plug in the same command set over...and over, and over, and over

Is there anything out there?

I know about portals, I have some on the route, but its not in the spirit of the route though.

Do a search on schedule rules. You'll have to make up a schedule once, then I believe you can copy it to other drivers, etc.
