Are there web sites or individuals that make accurate terrain "boards " as payware? I'd like to get the area between Brunswick, Maryland and Baltimore and Washington DC, Thanks, Bob

I've never heard of that sort of thing, I can perhaps make a DEM but if you mean by a baseboard with all the scenery and stuff that I can't do;).

Some fantastic DEM baseboard maps complete with Tiger lines can be found on DLS... do a search by username for "fishlipsatwork"

Fish also had a number of them on a web site he maintained. I think it's still up but he no longer makes new ones. Try a forum search on his user name - the link has been posted a few times.

Thanks Jerker, but it looks like he's dumped those - only the HOG textures folder remains. Most are on the DLS but I thought he was still hoisting the bigger maps over 20 megs - well until recently. Paul provded a valuable service for many Trainz route makers for several years - at his own expense.

I make my own dem'd terrain with MircoDem/HOG and I recommend any route builder at least try it. The several tutorials available have made it so it's almost a cook book process certainly within the capabilities of many users. If you're into Trainz for the long haul and are making or intend to make a lot of dem'd routes TransDem is an excellent reasonably priced (imo) payware addition.

G'day Rob,

So it would appear. They were certainly still there last week, I had the need to direct someone to the website and checked before sending them the link...

A most regrettable situation!

I, too, have followed a similar path to you and 'fishlipsatwork', creating terrainz, although in my case I use the payware package Global Mapper in lieu of MicroDEM. Like 'fishlipsatwork', I have offered to help some others, particularly here in Australia and more recently in the UK with DEM based routes (also at my own expense) but I will not take on the task of US based routes because I KNOW I COULD NOT keep up with the demand (besides which, my knowledge of American railroad 'topology' leaves a lot to be desired and I would have to 'learn' how to include real TIGER data into my maps).

As I have said before, I agree with your comments re TransDEM, even though I, too, am not using it at the moment.
