How to Confirm NVidia running

Have recently had new root hard drive installed. At same time moved from TS2009 to T:ANE. Now frame rates unacceptably low and trying to sort out reason. Basic question, am sure been asked many times but can't find good answer, how do you confirm T:ANE is running with NVidea graphics?

My system, from DxDiag.exe. edited somewhat

Hi Geoff,

You need to check this in your control panel, or maybe in the BIOS when the machine starts up. I'm not familiar with this laptop, however, so my statement is pretty general regarding this. There is an issue though, and I'm not sure if it's been fixed yet, with the Optimus drivers used to switch between Intel Graphics and the NVidia mobile on some laptops. This may also be your problem here.

Thanks John
Should also mention that in settings for T:ANE I am only given one option of Intel graphics, hence my suspicions.
Do you know if running full screen is mandatory for Nvidia, did read that somewhere and I run in its own window.
Also (finally) I have set T:ANE.exe as one and only program using Nvidia in its settings.

Thanks your reply

Hi Geoff,

There is no requirement to run full screen with the NVidia card. In fact I run windowed on my desktop computer which has an NVidia GTX780Ti in it and it runs fine.

It think you may have to ensure the control panel is set to the NVidia card before starting T:ANE otherwise the program won't see it, which makes sense as I have used other programs that do a similar thing with sound cards and speakers as well as graphics settings. It's annoying to start the program only to find that the settings are wrong!

Cheers!

John

Easy way to confirm if the Discrete card is being used, get hold of and run GPU-Z, start T:ANE driver or surveyor drop to desktop and GPU-Z should clearly indicate what card is being used.

You could also select 'Display GPU Activity Icon in Notification Area' from the 'Desktop' menu of the Nvidia Control Panel. When the card is in use, the icon changes colour, and clicking on it will bring up a list of programs using the GPU.
